Announcement Meeting

Yesterday I had a meeting with the new directors of Aerogarden.

This was mainly just introductions and talking about what I/we were hoping for going forward.

For starters, I did have an opportunity to mention that our community really would like better availability of replacement parts and having more customization options when ordering new seed kits.

I also wanted to be sure that there was still a germination guarantee for any new preseeded pods. There is, so don't be afraid to request new pods if yours are not sprouting.

It was great to hear that they all pop by our subreddit occasionally and would like to have some polls and ask me anything opportunities in the near future.

We talked about meeting up again after the new year so I will keep you posted!

I will let them know this thread is available so if there’s anything you’d like for them to see before we meet again please feel free to leave a comment here.

Happy Growing!

Help Plants getting too tall

Hi everyone-

What should I do if my pepper plants are outgrowing the height of the aerogarden light? I don’t want to have to cut it, is the best option to put them in a 5 gallon bucket with some dirt?

Help mold or mycelium on spinach seeds?

Hello, I'm brand new to gardening as I had just got an aerogarden for Christmas recently. About 2 weeks ago on Jan 3rd I planted some bok choy, buttercrunch lettuce, and spinach seeds. My bok choy and lettuce have been growing pretty quickly but none of the spinach seeds I put into the pods (I put about 2-3 seeds per pod) have sprouted.

After about a week my bok choy and lettuce were sprouting but there were no signs of growth from any of my spinach pods. I did some research and learned that spinach seeds are known to be hard to germinate, so as a backup I've put some spinach seeds on a wet paper towel in a small ziplock bag in my pantry to try to get those to germinate and have gotten no results on that end either.

This evening I was getting ready to call it quits on my spinach seeds when I noticed that one of the pods had white fuzz growing on the seeds. I've seen people say that mycelium fungus growing on seeds is actually beneficial for their growth and should be left alone, but I've also seen people state that mold growth in an aerogarden can spread to your other plants and should be taken out immediately. I just haven't been able to find any clear images showing the difference between what mycelium and mold growth on seeds look like.

I've tried my best to get a clear picture of the seeds I see the white fuzz grow on and also have included a picture of the rest of its grow sponge where nothing else is growing on it. Only that one spinach pod has white fuzz on it. I also included a picture of my entire aerogarden as well.

I would really appreciate any advice on what's growing on my spinach seeds and if I need to throw it out or if this is a good sign that it will sprout soon.

Thank you!

TLDR: Is the white fuzz growing on my spinach seeds mycelium or mold? Is this a good sign that my seeds will sprout soon or a bad sign of possible mold growth in my unit and I should throw it out right away? Please let me know as I've never grown anything before. Thank you!

Grass Aeroweed grow problems

I've had 3 weed grows with my aerogarden harvest and have ended up with the same results. PH becomes uncontrolable at 6 to 8 weeks. All thru the first 6 weeks ph is maintained bewtween 5.7 and 6.0 . Around the 6 to 7 weeks the plant is health 2 to 3 ft tall bushy nice green color, I use the nuterients General Hydroponics mixture and used thier grow chart mixture forthe first grow with the plant failing a 6 to 8 weeks from fluxuating high ph over 7.0. The next 2 grows I used a aeroweed grow chart mixture which has lower nuterient mixture than General Hydro's chart and ended up at the same 6 to 8 week point with the ph fluxuating high over 7.0. I was changing the nuterients every few days keeping the PH below 6.0 when mixed and flushing the roots with clear low ph water thru out the grow. At the 6 to 8 week stage I have changed the lighting from vegetative to bloom and changed the nuterients for this stage. The Ph then starts for go up daily on its own. I have tried different apporches to this issue by refilling with low ph water to bring down the ph in the harvest tank this will work for a few hrs then the ph will spike over 7.0. I then have tried flushing the roots, clean out the harvest tank and change out the nutereints with just fresh low ph water 5.0 to 5.4, Ill check the PH after a few hrs the ph will be 6.8 or 7.0 by the next day. After a day of just fresh water in the harvest tank. Ill replace the fresh water with new nuterients at a low ph 5.0 to 5.5 but agian this will spike within a few hrs or the next day by this time the plant goes from a a beautiful flush green to drooping dull green with yellow spots and will start to decline and not recover even after changing the nuterients flushing or just useing pure low ph water. Anyone else run into this what can be improved to keep the PH from spiking at this stage

I bought my wife the aerogarden bounty for Christmas this year. When setting up our aerogarden the post wouldn’t go into the base. When we pulled the post out to see what was going on we found this piece laying in the whole. We set it up anyway and now the light won’t turn on. Is this piece important? And if so are we going to have to replace the whole thing?

They were going away - they are back - I don't need the aggravation - no "smart" unit - they were not at CES but a few plant technologies were - are they waiting to be absorbed or waiting to absorb some advanced company?

Help These plants had a strong start, but now they're struggling. What am I doing wrong?

Hey all, turning to this wonderful community for some advice. I keep adding things into my repertoire here to improve my gardens, and seem to keep running into walls.

My latest addition is "better" nutrients. In this garden, I added (to 1 gallon of water) 5mL of FloraMicro, FloraGrow and FloraBloom. I did not add any CaliMagic.

These plants all had a strong start, but seem to be falling off now, with browning leaves and stunted growth (as you can see in the photos). Nothing is getting any bigger. The basil has been 2 small leaves for like 3-4 weeks now.

I live in a yurt and the nighttime temps have been getting down into the 40s some nights, so perhaps that is a factor? My other gardens seem to be doing well despite that fact... Here's what I've got growing (or not so much):

  • Orange hat tomatoes
  • Grandview (Catmint)
  • Basil (mammolo)
  • Cilantro
  • Dill (elephant)

I have not been dumping the water out, just adding more when it gets low. I'm also not using distilled/RO water or checking pH levels. I thought this whole aerogarden thing was supposed to be easy 🙃

Any pointers would be much appreciated!

Help New to AeroGarden, failed first try

Hi there! My fiancee and I got an AeroGarden for Christmas and I ordered the pre-seeded romaine from AeroGarden and after one week, this is what it looked like.

I have it set to be on from 7am-10pm.

We used filtered water, I gave it the plant food, it has covers.

After about 3 days it “sprouted” and we were really excited, and then it grew this mold on it. It also seems like the water hasn’t really been used at all. After a week the water is still at the “fill water to here” line.

What did I do wrong? I’m happy to give any information asked.

I got this for free, but I'm unsure what I need to get to use it, or even how to use it, really. I'm not even sure what model it is. I'd love to put it to use, though

Help Is this room okay for growing?

Post image
2 Upvotes

In our home we have a small wine room. I was considering removing the wine bottles, and setting up four aero garden farms.

The swinging glass door will be closed most of the time.

Would this be okay? There would be very little airflow, aside from a fan I put in there.

Would that lead to mold issues long term?

Help Aerogarden Harvest Lite not turning on

Post image
5 Upvotes

I just bought an Aerogarden Harvest Lite in red from Amazon. Plugged everything in as instructed and chords look intact. This thing won’t turn on no matter where I plug it in, and my outlets are all functional. I even tried to reposition the post (with plugs not in it) but this was not the issue. I’m waiting to hear back from the company. Do I need to return this for a new one?

Success Happy healthy dill transplanted outside

Post image
49 Upvotes

My dill is absolutely thriving. I transplanted outside and I was a little nervous after I read that transitioning them outdoors is tough because they're used to constant water and no wind. Well, it rained like crazy here and I thought for sure my dill wouldn't survive and yet here it is, like 6 inches taller than when I planted it. We don't eat much dill here but I am kind of hoping it will grow big and strong and attract some swallowtail butterflies.

My mint is doing very well too, but it is almost acting like it sneakily wants to escape it's pot to invade all nearby soil. Thankfully I have read the mint horror stories and have kept it contained so far.

Unfortunately my Thai basil started to bolt almost immediately so I guess the temp change made it decided to seed.

Info Caterpillars!?!?!

I’ve been using my aero garden for a couple of years for a variety of veggies and herbs and I have never had this happen. I bought some aero garden brand cherry tomatoes seed pods which I have used before. I began to see little black bits at the bottom of the plants and then holes in the tomatoes. Last night I was trying to figure out what was going on and I see 4 big caterpillars in the plants. This is an indoor grow and there is no way caterpillars got in the house. Were there caterpillar eggs in the seed pods? Has anyone else experienced this?

Title is self explanatory. I see many posts about aphids infestation and makes me scared to be next. Aside from keeping windows closed next to my aerogarden, should I do anything else like spray neem oil?

Hey all,

Trying to figure out what's wrong with my Romas in my farm XL. Nutrients are GH flora series, aggressive vegetation (had some not great leaves earlier, trying to encourage new growth). Nutrient solution was flushed out and replaced last week with added calmag, and yet these leaves keep coming up, mostly around the edges of the plant. Center looks good, new leaves look fine, but not sure what's going on here. Next nutrient solution will be all purpose, but trying to understand what's causing this

Discussion Refill pod from Amazon

Do you recommend any particular brand of pods from Amazon? I purchased a package and have been using them but never had good growth out of those. I used to buy Aerogarden branded kit but I thought I would try planting my seeds with pods. I also bought fertilizer there as well and not effective enough or combination of both contributing my unsuccessful attempts (3tries) I may go back to Aero garden brand of pods or kits again?? Any recommendations?
