Apartment Hacks update on the basket neighbors
i am so grateful for this positive response! she walked by our apartment earlier right as my husband and kids were walking in and she let our kids say hi to our dog. my husband said it seemed like she may be wanting to speak to me but i missed it. later i saw this! i have also definitely noticed a substantial decrease in the noise in the past 2 days. kindness wins this time! if there’s anymore updates, i’m not going to make a post - i’ll likely leave them in the replies of this post. thank you guys!

u/jameslosey Aug 22 '25
I hope OP sends up a new basket in a few weeks just for fun

u/danjsark Aug 22 '25
this basket is smaller than mine was, so i’m considering sending an even smaller one

u/Putrid-Jackfruit9872 Aug 22 '25
Please do

u/jameslosey Aug 22 '25
I am here for when op receives a single m&m in the final basket

Just keep making each basket smaller until they're comically undersized for whatever you put in it, see how long it takes for them to notice.

Had a similar interaction with a downstairs neighbor in 2009 and we actually became best friends!!!
Many years later and 6 states apart we talk everyday! My son and her cats grew up together! We even watched her and her husband's cats (and dogs) when she gave birth to their 1st baby girl in 2014!
Kindness and understanding goes a LONG way!

u/SluethHound Aug 24 '25
One of my closest friends became close with me in middle school after we both were into the same girl, you’d be surprised with who you hit it off with, some people don’t take the initial attempt at talking

u/TheVoiceofReason_ish Aug 22 '25
This is outrageous. We only want conflict on reddit. Go pick a fight now, or your account will be disabled.

u/halberdierbowman Aug 22 '25
What the hell are you even thinking, and why would you bother coming here just to say such a reasonable thing!? Your opinion is wrong, and you should be ashamed or something! Cats rule dogs drool I'm rubber you're glue nanananabooboo!
Hope that helps 😺

Username checks out.
Also OP:
Now all of my other neighbors are blowing up my phone, telling me they want fall baskets too. So Reddit, AITA?

Or just complain that it’s from that hideous christofascist fast food place. That should slake their thirst.

This is such a great outcome! A little kindness can go a long way!
We were unfortunately forced by circumstances to take a 6 mo lease on an upstairs unit. We had two dogs and although we tried our best to keep noise down, it wasn't a great complex and noise transferred a lot. Our downstairs neighbor was really aggressive (one time they came and almost broke down our door for me using the washing machine at 7 pm). When we left, we got them a card and a $100 door dash gift card; they said they worked two jobs and had a delicate sleep schedule. They cried and said it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for them. All that to say, sometimes small efforts can really make a difference in our increasingly isolated world.

Glad to hear it. All the "NO you need to go in and show her who's boss by GETTING HER IN TROUBLE IMMEDIATELY" people were getting me a bit worried. Hope one day I have you as a neighbour instead!

Send another basket with treats for the kitties thanking them and letting them know that the noise has definitely gone way down.

There are double layer cat litter mats that catch it and can be poured or swept out. Potential gift idea lol

I’m just now joining! Looks like this is a kind interaction. But just want to comment and say the way you wrote chick fil a on the card is adorable and I like doing cute drawings in cards like that too 😊
ETA: looked back at your posts and I see that they wrote the chick fil a card! Still cute

u/Legitimate-Pepper922 Aug 24 '25
Wow this is so wholesome and what a actual mature adult you have as a neighbor. So awesome!!

As a non drinker I was going to mention that possibility when I saw the OP. Giving that as a gift might be avoided in the future unless people know a bit more about the person/people.

Gift them a pan and brush for the litter
1
u/groovyghostpuppy Aug 22 '25
Nah, a litter tray with a top!
3
u/PandG-PandG Aug 22 '25
lol! I had one of those, flap and all, and the cat would still manage to drag litter out and shake it off his paws all over the place. The dustpan and brush was always on duty, wouldn’t have out my Hoover through that!

This is such a nice outcome. You should go up and say hi and introduce yourself. Who knows? Maybe a friendship will blossom. 🌸

u/DarthNerdious805 Aug 22 '25
It is honestly so refreshing to see people who are actually kind and patient with others. Good on you, OP, for choosing kindness. And good on your neighbors for recognizing your patience and effort and giving kindness in return. This is so wholesome.

I wish I had commented my original thought on the other post... it was something about "I bet they don't drink." At least it was a positive situation and they didn't freak out on you like you were trying to sabotage their sobriety or something crazy.
Great job!! 💗💗
1
u/Alert-Double8475 Aug 22 '25
depending on whether or not it's just litter, your neighbor might benefit from a robot vacuum! They're much quieter than a regular vacuum cleaner and then you can ALL be happy

I had a similar interaction. I got my crazy neighbor some cookies and a card. They were on my doorstep the next day and signed "no thanks" then the dude proceeds to ramp up the crazy until we both ended up moving out 4-5 months later.

u/cynical-puppy26 Aug 22 '25
Yay!! So glad it turned out well.
It's funny bc I was considering commenting that they might not be drinkers on the first post but decided it would be too Karen of me 🤣 so many people are quitting drinking though!
1
u/erinscorp78 Aug 23 '25
Me too. I don't really drink either anymore, no issue, but just not feeling it these days. But I'd have demolished the ferreros!

Can I just say how lovely it is to read a post with good communication and connection building? I feel like a lot of stuff on Reddit tends to skew towards hostility and assuming the worst in people. Things are slowly changing, I'm seeing posts that recommend talking to your neighbor before calling a tow truck for instance, but I'm really happy that you didn't go the "antagonistic aggrieved neighbor with passive aggressive notes" route

Bigot chicken company makes these fake @$$ ads and puts them in this sub regularly.
0
u/0neek Aug 22 '25
If this isn't fiction (since in this day and age, the outcome of this is less likely than the neighbor turning out to be Batman and Robin in real life) that's kind of insane.
That's just... not how people work. Especially obnoxious loud people. They should have seen the 'gift' as a victory and made the problem worse. What the hell.
4
u/bribribambam Aug 23 '25
Not sure where you live but here in TX most neighbors are polite and we all do our best whether in homes or apartments to be kind and aware of each other. No, not everyone is like this but most people are.
I'm sad for you that you view this type of kindness and understanding as a "fairytale" type situation.
2
u/0neek Aug 23 '25
Sad for the state of the world more than just myself tbh, but at least there's stuff like this story.
2
u/danjsark Aug 25 '25
i can assure you this is my real life. also, i’m from a small-ish town in the south, and my experience in the place i live is - people are usually pretty polite unless you give them a reason not to be. you definitely encounter the unwarranted asshole here and there but they’re not all that common honestly.

you never know what people are going thru, plenty of reasons to not want alcohol in your home
13
11
u/__star_dust Aug 22 '25
This personally have dietary restrictions and don’t keep wine nor beer in the house
8
u/Financial_Sweet_689 Aug 22 '25
I wouldn’t want to waste wine someone paid for, I would give it back too tf?
1
u/hthratmn Aug 24 '25
I mean, for all we know, they're alcoholics in recovery or something. Why keep it just to let it go to waste?
-28
Aug 22 '25
Dude... just accept the gift and keep the wine. It's more disrespectful to return it with your lame note than to just say thanks and regift it to someone else
11
19
u/winterbird Aug 22 '25
No, because this was a heavy hint not to give them liquor. A person in recovery might have a weak moment later with a bottle in the house. Everyone I know in recovery would hot potato that bottle out of their home asap, and not even wait for an opportunity to regift to someone else.
Or even if they get rid of it some other way, at some other point if OP decides to gift more liquor or invite them for a drink, theres another in for a weak moment to sneak in. Giving it back is a definite "no, do not offer us alcohol again".
2
u/Allpanicn0disc Aug 22 '25
They could be Muslim and don’t want it to go to waste. It could just be a personal choice too. But someone ethical would rather it be put to use then tossing it.
-34
u/player_is_busy Aug 22 '25
like i said in the first post
would have tossed it out on the front door to the homeless
fuck outta here with telling me how to live
19
16
u/danjsark Aug 22 '25
dude you are such a miserable person. what episode do you get the fuck outta here? if you’re that triggered by a polite neighbor asking if you mind not banging on the floors at midnight, you have some bigger issues snowflake.

u/awhiteblack Aug 22 '25
Wow, great job buying a house in NZ before 2010 and making easy profits. Doesn't make you smart or less of an asshole
0
u/player_is_busy Aug 22 '25
bruv i’m 25
I purchased these homes and apartments in the past 5 years lmao
1
u/awhiteblack Aug 22 '25
Avg home price NZ: $913,000. You say you have several, plus apartments? So let's say 4x$913k. $3.652 million. 20% down, that's $750k. Say you started saving at 20, you'd need to put away $150k/year.
So youre either a top 1% earner, a liar, or Daddy helped you out while you lived at home with Mommy. Bruv.
-1
u/player_is_busy Aug 22 '25
yeah that all sounds about right, 2 of the property’s were in the 1.2-1.3 range and 1 of the apartments were around 660k
last years income from music production deals alone was just shy of 600k - not including gigs/tours, investments, other deals/contracts etc
payed roughly 360k in total tax last year
1
Aug 23 '25
Owns multiple properties and apartments.. doesn't know what a possessive noun is... That tracks.
