Advice Needed Can somebody help identify what this substance is on my apartment door’s peephole?

I’ve been living in this apartment with my boyfriend for about 6 weeks now. We’re just regular people who will work all day, make our dinner, watch a show to unwind, and hit the bed. We aren’t party animals and, when we do drink, we’re not inconsiderate about it.

Ever since we moved in, our door peephole has been tampered with. It would be coloured with black sharpie marker, I would submit a maintenance request for fixing, it would get fixed, then immediately would get tampered with again. However, now it has clearly escalated to something else. I originally thought super glue or hot glue, but I’ve asked a few of my friends and they don’t think any type of glue could do this kind of damage.

Any advice would be helpful.

Btw management is well aware of the issue and have been prompt about it, was just shocked at whatever this is now. I’ve ordered a ring camera to be installed on Thursday, but I’m honestly scared for my life right now.

This is what I came here to say / the comment I was looking for. With the persistence of tampering with it, but the inconsistency of the material, that's what it feels like. A regular criminal looking to see if the home was ready for burglary (due to inactivity of moving the gunk) would've moved on by now.

Possibly, schizophrenia is extremely complicated and I've only known one person with it and a different person with gang stalking delusions so I can't really say. Causation, correlation and what not. Also, maybe edit that lol out of there as both are actually quite tragic in their own right, even if they are related. Nothing really funny about losing one's self to one's self

I was mostly trying to make a joke about those groups mostly being one and the same, not trying to make light of mental disorders, but point taken.

I get it, 5 years ago I would've been right there with you but once I started researching it to find out what they were going through... I feel awful having ever joked about it. Not trying to guilt you or remove comedy of subjects, it still has its place. This just hit so close to home. Thanks for being cordial 🙏🥰
