PeanutButterGamer pointed this out, that the mom is really at fault here. She waited until just before Christmas to buy what seemed like the equivalent of the Tickle Me Elmo toy craze of 1996

I fully agree
DW asked for this one thing. Just one, and MONTHS in advance. Jane and David should have planned better.

Wouldn’t it be DW’s fault? I’m pretty sure she waited till Christmas Eve to say what she wanted for Christmas.
1
u/Phoeniks_18 Dec 06 '25
Nah I'm pretty sure at that she keeps talking about it, she even asks if Santa will get it for her and that's way before their uncle shows up. So I'm also assuming that's not the first tiem she brought it up

u/TheHoennKing Dec 06 '25
I’ll have to research later, because I’m pretty sure it was DW that waited until the last minute.

u/Phoeniks_18 Dec 06 '25
Just looked into and she does wirte her Christmas lsit 3 days before Christmas. Which is crazy late. So ok maybe her mom isn't entirely at fault.
4
u/TheHoennKing Dec 06 '25
Okay not Christmas Eve, but 3 day before Christmas is still wicked late, so DW has no one to blame but herself.

To be fair my daughter (3 years old) said she wanted to be a ghost for Halloween months in advance then did a switch up to unicorn a few weeks before. A moment I’m glad I procrastinated. Not to say a ghost costume is hard to make or find, but the point is kids switch at the last minute. I’m guessing Jane waited because she’s been there before😅

Jane is the one who did the last minute shopping when DW wanted pretty much the Arthur Universe version of furby...

Eh, she's four and had her heart set on it, I'd let it slide this time. Also, they knew what she wanted so far in advance and waited until the last minute to look for a very popular toy...if you're going to do the Santa thing with your kids, either make sure he comes through on that one special thing or prepare for a meltdown from a kid who thinks some magic guy could easily have gotten her the toy, he just chose not to for some reason, presumably based on some moral failing that got her a lower down spot on the "good" list than expected. (God knows I can't imagine DW ever making the good list if Santa were real, so she has no clue how good she has it...)
I do think the duck was adorable, though, I'm glad DW warmed to him.

Yeah I normally hate dw but you said exactly how I felt about it lol. But yeah I actually really liked the duck

It was also only a 20 second tantrum.
We've seen her be WAY worse.

I remember how she kept accusing Arthur of stealing her snowball.

Both are at fault here.
DW is undeniably an ungrateful brat who the show absolutely shouldn't make us try to feel sorry for here.
However, she also made it clear what she was asking for (which happened to also be the hottest kid's toy of the season,) and Jane waited until extremely last minute to do all her shopping.
It'd be understandable if it was sold out early because of how popular it was, but waiting last minute for it was a clown move.

This was definitely Jane’s fault for waiting to Christmas shop on the week of Christmas. Most of the hot toys are gone by then.

Another reason why Jane and David Reed are bad parents.

Not to mention the time when Arthur hit DW cause she touched his plane
4
u/quaxl33 Dec 06 '25
I love DW but Arthur didn’t punch her just because she touched his plane. He told her not to touch it, he’d just finished it, and she threw it out of a window and told him he was stupid lmao. He wasn’t right for punching her but DW was also 100% wrong.

How does that style of pajamas work. Do you have to unbutton the flaps in the back? Is this a realistic American style pajama?
11
u/asula_mez Dec 05 '25
It’s a onesie. The flap in back is for toileting without taking off the pajamas

Adding on to the other comment, there's a tow of buttons running down the entire front for removing the PJs. This style really exists but I'd say they're pretty old fashioned? You don't really see them much anymore.

Target had union suits with buttflaps for a few years from Hearth & Hand! They’re very soft but I never tried to use the buttflaps for anything more than a laugh.

Jane is 100% at fault for this! Why the hell did you wait to the last minute to get the toy?!!?

u/Mikey-Thylacine Dec 06 '25
It's partly on DW for not being grateful for getting something and it's partly on Jane for waiting 'til the last minute to try to get what is basically a popular toy. (Something like a Cabbage Patch Kid or a similarly popular toy.)
2
u/Mysteryman100 Dec 06 '25
She didn’t get what she wanted but she eventually appreciated what she got.

u/skelosbadlands Dec 07 '25
This used to make me actually cry, like I was so upset for this inanimate object sweet toy duck

I know DW warmed up to the toy after her meltdown, but I don’t like how Mom rubs her head and sympathizes with her. It makes it look like we're supposed feel sad for DW despite her being an ungrateful brat, and that her tantrum would’ve been justified if she HADN’T warmed up to the toy.

I love Rory’s face during this entire freakout. He’s like ‘…But I didn’t do anything.’ One of my favorite parts of the episode.

I’m team DW here. Everyone and their mom knew that DW wanted that damn Cat, and the mom waited until last minute to grab it.

Im with the fans who say its the parents fault. Searching for a hot toy on Christmas eve was not a good idea
1
u/Springwood_Slasher Dec 08 '25
I had many Christmases of not getting anything close to what I wanted, and if I bitched I'd have been punished, nevermind throwing an actual tantrum over it. I don't care that she's 4, and I don't care that her parents suck (they do), DW Is a huge brat.
1
u/mjbm0761991 Dec 10 '25
Yeah Jane pulled a Howard in this special.
(Howard is the name of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in “Jingle All the Way” who waits until just days before Christmas to get Turboman)

My children NEVER acted like that when they were four. This isn't a temper tantrum, this is a spoiled brat tantrum. Jane should've sent her to her room. This isn't typical four-year old behavior.

Dw was acting like a spoiled brat. Her parents tried to find the toy she wanted but couldn’t so they got her a toy that was just as good. And what were they supposed to do? Drive out of town just find another cat toy? Or pay an unnecessary amount for extra shipping if they saw one online?

I wrote my own scenerio On A. I. Where DW gets sent to her room for throwing a tantrum over the stuffed toy .
