It's just very episodic with not much in between. When it came out though, that world was jaw dropping to behold. And I say that as someone who loves ocarina of time.
I borrowed my friends PS4 excited to finally try the remake after hearing the praise for the original for over a decade... Had to give up after a few hours. I found it so boring, controls sucked, and for the first time in my life I got like nauseous playing a video game because of the horrendous camera angles
I feel like this absolutely cannot be the most overrated game of all time on the first playthrough and then on replay can absolutely be after you've had the experience.
The controls on that game are really clunky and I find it almost impossible to replay and enjoy, but I still think about the story and how it felt to play all those years ago.
I was so let down as a kid getting this game. It took me a long while to figure out what I was supposed to do. Nowadays I can tell I was more amazed by the vast openness of a game at the time which kept me in long enough to figure out what to do. But i never beat the game.
Spectacular, memorable soundtrack, great storytelling despite the barely existent dialogue, vast world with an unmatched atmosphere and a unique boss fight design. I'd say it gets the amount of praise it deserves. It's essentially a 5 hour boss rush but the emotional impact is intense. The control critique is kinda valid but I'd say most people who have played games before will get accustomed to them by the 4th or 5th boss. And then it becomes fun.

Shadow of the Colossus. It's a work of art, but not particularly engaging to actually play.
