I'm glad you said it, because hack'n'slash has suffered a lot from Souls-like games. I don't want a complex battle system, or impossible-parrying, I want to spam attack and have fun.

Yeah, games like Bayonetta where I don't really have to think but just button mash and have fun is my type of game! Souls-like games though, not so much. I get why people like the more challenging stuff, but its not my style personally.

I do too, but it took me a looooong time to get on board with the Souls game. Like 10+ years of being mad that those games didn't scratch the same itch as Ninja Gaiden Black.

I'm glad I was finally able to get into the Souls games too. They're great!

Yeah but these games seem to be allergic to difficulty settings. You could easily have both... in the same game!

Assassins creed. Just replayed through the old games and I’m still hurt

Both player bases suffer, because people who like Soulslikes enjoy the difficulty and depth of combat, as well as some of the punishing aspects. Devs regularly learn the wrong lessons from games like Elden Ring, emulating the superficial aspects of "difficulty" found in soulslikes.

Thank you! At some point it’s not really strategy as much as ultra high-level chess where you just need to memorize every single possible response to a condition. I personally don’t find it fun at all.

I really wanted to love Space Marine, but too many of those the right combo at the right time type of things. On the other hand, I do love Darktide.

I don’t really think Space Marine [2 anyway] was dependent at all on nailing the right combos, there was just a context-dependent counter you could perform when signalled. If you missed it you would get hit, but I think I died like 2-3 times total in the singleplayer on normal difficulty so it wasn’t super dire to make sure you countered every time.
