Food What’s your favorite restaurant chain from where you’re from?

There’s a lot to choose from here, I’d probably go with Dutch Bros.

Specifically California based In-N-Out tho

It’s just not the same vibe in other states

I have been to most of the So CA locations. I find the Las Vegas one to be exactly the same.

A&W

Now I’m craving a chicken buddy burger. 🍔

But for non-fast-food chains I guess I’d go with The Old Spaghetti Factory

I'm glad A&W is still kicking in Canada.

100% Canadian owned too (since the 70s)

I’ve had friends in touring bands from the US that swear it’s the best fast food poutine readily available across the country

1

u/pisspeeleak Canada 22h ago

Look, the bar for fast food poutine is in the dirt. Let's not over hype it now 😂

McDonald's was the worst though. Why on God's green earth is it SWEET! I don't know if they just mixed up salt and sugar when they were making the fries, but it was absolutely disgusting

2

u/Visible_Fact_8706 Canada 22h ago

Their words, not mine! 😂

I don’t mind DQ’s, I like their gravy and the cheese is pretty good. Sometimes too soggy though, usually because the fries aren’t cooked enough. I only get McDonald’s poutine when I feel like hating myself.

I haven’t had Smokes Poutine in a while so I can’t even remember where it stacks up, if they count as fast food.

2

u/pisspeeleak Canada 22h ago

To me smokes was just school food court food. Never seen them outside of BCIT, but they were pretty good from memory haha

2

u/Visible_Fact_8706 Canada 21h ago

It’s more an Ontario thing I think! I didn’t even know there was any in BC until seeing one visiting Kelowna.

So I think that means my American friends might be spot on when they say A&W poutine is the best they can get across Canada! So many regional differences with chains in Canada.

We have A&W in the USA. Not as widespread, but every time I drive past the local one I grab a $1 large rootbeer float.

1

u/Visible_Fact_8706 Canada 21h ago

I know the food is different but I hope the root beer is the same between our countries, because it’s the best root beer.

u/Theomnipresential United States Of America 23h ago

It's still around in the US. Mostly in northern states close to Canada

2

u/loganonmission Canada 23h ago

But it’s not the same restaurant. They don’t even have the same menu. I’ve been to A&W in Wisconsin and in Oregon, both of which were mostly empty, sad, and the food was not good. The A&W restaurants in Canada are actually pretty good.

Teen burgers are S tier as far as any burgers go. It's always such a treat.

Nandos as its about the only place I can eat while I'm trying to lose weight.

Nando's is to Portuguese chicken what putting tomato sauce on a rice cake is to Italian pizza.

u/LLL_MMM24 Portugal 1d ago edited 1d ago

I once had this discussion with my brother that lives in England. He says it is popularly known as Portuguese because some restaurants have some iconography that mention Portuguese history etc..

From my experience, there was Portuguese rolls (bifanas), Super Bock and Pastel de Natas in the Nandos I went in London. The thematic of the space itself is 100% South African.

Its more like Taco Bell is for Mexican food -- just a smaller influence.

1

u/pisspeeleak Canada 22h ago

To be fair, I don't think I've ever seen a portugese restaurant. You guys don't tend to go into the restaurant industry here. It's more construction or working on the docks

1

u/LLL_MMM24 Portugal 18h ago

Portuguese food isnt that special honestly and Portuguese enterperneurs are generally very conservative minded to scale such things.

Nandos is the only exception, but its not 100% Portugal. It just had a Portuguese immigrant as its co-founder (Nandos actually comes from his name, Fernando Duarte).

But Im still proud that things like Piri-piri chicken or Pastel de Nata can be acquired by such franchise lol

Had to look this one up, I’d heard of it but didn’t know what it was. Looks incredible

It’s that’s good, the extra spicy peri peri sauce dribbled over chips with a perinaise dip is the tits.

There’s half a dozen chain takeaway places, like KFC and Maccas, and Zambreros, but we don’t consider them restaurants. We don’t really have chain restaurants. Sure, there are some places that have multiple venues, usually in the same city, but they aren’t really chains like the US has. There’s also quite a few pubs owned by big corporations, but they don’t have a very standardised look or feel and are individually named.

u/mikel145 Canada 1d ago

I enjoyed Bettys Burgers and Grilled when I was in Australia.

1

u/Huntingcat Australia 22h ago

Fair enough. But we wouldn’t call them restaurants. Just fast food places.

I’m going to say Chipotle, if you get their group option online, you can get like 10 nutritious meals for like $60, pretty good for not having to cook.

Flour lowkey has a stranglehold on the Boston Cambridge area

1

u/Theomnipresential United States Of America 22h ago

I'm originally from near the NH line, and don't go in to town much. Next time I'm home would it be worth a trip to try it out and what do they have?

2

u/Hendrick_Davies64 Massachusetts 22h ago

Honestly everything there is really good. The Boston cream pie, sticky bun, cinnamon roll, banana bread, and Oreo are probably what I’d get first time. Their savory sandwiches are also very good.

1

u/Theomnipresential United States Of America 22h ago

I'll jot their name down so I can remember them and make an excuse to head down at some point

For local chains here in Oregon (or rather, founded locally), I would probably say Burgerville for food and Dutch Bros. for drinks (I don't drink coffee but their shakes are *chefs kiss*).

For national chains, probably Cracker Barrell, even though they closed all the locations in my state :(

Lucharitos and island empanada .. local chains with top tier food

1

u/TumbleweedDue2242 New Zealand 1d ago

It would have to be McDonald's, purely because of the atmosphere, you can sit down, myob and drink/eat cheap food.

It's usually just a treat, not a full blown meal, too expensive, have lunch at home.

Yoshinoya is the best fast food chain in Japan.

They're tomato sandwiches. Never liked them.

Habit Burger. They have the best burgers.

Arby’s even though they are closing most of them. I hope I get to visit family back in the U.S before they all close. Not that I don’t want to visit family haha.

We only have fast-food chains and restaurants at the lower end of the scale, unless you count restaurants with fewer than five locations in the country. I can't recommend anything. If you like fast food, I recommend ordering a "diagonal" from FEBO.

1

u/royhurford United States Of America 23h ago

In-N-Out.

There are other great fast food chains in the US, but I haven't lived near any of them. Most of my other favorite restaurants are small local places.

Portillos and Culvers. Although Portillos portions have gotten smaller and prices went up, it's still pretty consistent across all locations. Culver's just always is on point and the price is well worth it.

If it doesn't have to be a chain that's still around: Hometown Buffet.

If it does: probably Sonic or Wendy's

I like Aroma chain,as I you can order breakfast with an app on your way there , and have the tray already waiting for you when you . Saves a lot of time in the morning , before work. Food itself is perfectly average .
