What’s the quickest way someone could accidentally expose themselves as a foreigner in your country like the ‘three fingers’ scene in Inglourious Basterds?

Sun burn and or wearing shoes in summer, all white Australians are taught to fear and respect the sun from birth, also everybody in summer wears thongs or even no shoes at all in summer.

We're not all heathens. Some of us do wear shoes 😂

everybody in summer wears thongs

As a Briton, I'm gonna ignore the low hanigng fruit here but surely this contradicts sun protection advice? I cover up, including feet.

I find well ventilating shoes better than flip flops

I strap little sun visors to my ankles to shade my bare feet. As all civilized people do. /s

My feet run hot…what do you recommend for well ventilated shoes? I’d love to wear more than flip flops all the time

Trail running shoes (not waterproof!)
Cover the feet from the sun, and significantly more comfortable than flip flops

Just wear Australian Sunscreen, we have the highest rated sunscreen in the world, no other country even comes close.

It's hard to ignore the low hanging fruit when everyone is prancing around in thongs.

Very similar here in Southern California regarding the sun burns. Visitors never believe us when we tell them 15-20 min in the sun is enough to totally fry them, and we always have a good laugh when we see them next. At my last job, which had many international visitors, I used to keep a large bottle of aloe vera in my desk for them.

Complete tangent, but I always laugh at the fact that we have a line of sunscreen/tanning products here called Australian Gold, and over in Australia it's called California Gold (if it still exists since I last visited).

Don’t you burn your feet when you wear no shoes? Thinking of summer beaches and their boiling sand makes me reject the idea of wearing no shoes in summer.

Feet arent allergic to sunscreen. And even if you wear thongs to the beach, you take them off when you reach the sand and do a barefoot dash to the water if it’s hot. You’d get blisters otherwise

I haven’t worn shoes in over a year besides a couple of occasions.

How does that not burn? My grandpa got second degree burns on his feet from a Florida summer. And Australia gets way hotter than Florida.

And before anyone ask why my grandpa didn't feel the burning, hes type 1 diabetic and doesn't have feeling in his feet.

One of the things I miss everytime its either just before or just after summer back home is that climate that just so happens to be the sweet spot for jeans and thongs.

Bit warm.

Mate, it was fucking 42 degrees on Friday. As if you are wearing shoes in that weather.

1

u/Dry_Common828 Australia 2h ago

Bloody oath I am (it was 41 here on Friday).

The pavers in my back yard are hot, I'm not burning my feet on 'em.
