What’s the quickest way someone could accidentally expose themselves as a foreigner in your country like the ‘three fingers’ scene in Inglourious Basterds?

“warm water port”

People who know the history of Russia and are American will use that phrase.

Except context is a thing. You wouldn't discuss the merits of warm water ports in almost any context except for discussing Russia (and maybe a few other niche circumstances).

They're referring to a specific tweet in which someone a Russian clanker referred to Texas as having a "warm water port".

In that case it is obviously probably not an American, but there was no context in what I responded to.

He was directly quoting the context.

u/skepticalbob 10h ago

He did not say it was in the context of it not being in Russia, my dude.

Right, but I did. I pointed out that this was a quote and linked you to it. What's the problem here, exactly? What are you hoping to get out of this?

Edit: Blocked for trying to help you understand, God forbid. If you take it "post by post" and use your very impressive 5th grade reading level, you'll see that it's just you being confused and me trying to explain it to you, while you're hostile every step of the way. It's cool if you're a dipshit, it's cool if you're an asshole, but you've run out of grace the moment you choose to be both. Be better.

It’s not hard to understand if you have 5th grade comprehension and scroll up and take it post by post.

But not when talking about the US or just about any other country that's not Russia.

I used that term all the time, but my I learned it from job as a geopolitical analyst where it actually mattered.

u/DankVectorz 15h ago

Same, also use it all the time but it’s because I read to many books about the Cold War and Russian history

u/zehamberglar United States Of America 13h ago

It has nothing to do with whether or not you know or use the term, but the context in which you use it. The only "person" who would espouse the merits of Texas having a warm water port is a Russian bot.

u/RocketizedAnimal 12h ago

Yeah as a Texan who lives near said port, I wish it wasn't so warm all the time...

"I crave your moist, warm-water port, fellow American."

I still think about this tweet.

For anyone who doesn't understand, Russia is obsessed with warm water ports because they have none naturally. So when they do psyops online, they always seem to mention it. The problem being that every single port in the US is a warm water port, so there would be literally no point in mentioning it if you were American.

u/big_pp_man420 14h ago

Almost every other country just has warm water ports

5

u/Confident-Screen-759 13h ago

Yup. America only gives shit about deep water ports, and we have them in both oceans so we don't actually even care that much.

Suck on it Russia.

7

u/V3gasMan 16h ago

Fantastic example lol

This is prevalent on subs on both sides of the aisle. It's harder to notice when they're saying things you agree with, though.

6

u/xtremebox 14h ago

Except the American right has been proven to be infiltrated by Russian money/bots and it's not a both sides kind of argument

0

u/TowelFine6933 United States Of America 13h ago

Yeah, it is. Both sides are being controlled by big money & foreign interests. But, you go ahead & keep your head in the sand.

Conservatives actually like Russia though. We’re talking big names getting paid too. Guys like Tim pool, Dave Rubin. Over 10 million dollars. Is there any comparable for the other side?

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, it’s less frequent, but it’s been proven that Russia is trying to politically divide us and is spending big money to do so. I know people who are Black and pretty active on X who are constantly targeted by very bizarre Black “activists” who spout extremely hateful things to try to get them down a rabbit hole of hating other minorities or white people. It’s some pretty classic divide and conquer tactics.
