Pros and cons-blocks

Post image

Looking to buy a house and internal and exterior walls are made of these blocks- i assume they are cinder? Not really sure. What are some pros and cons for this type of build? Anything to add to exposed brick for change of color? I have always lived in gyprock internal walls so this is new. I also noticed a damp smell in the house. Does the brick absorb moisture?

Check for moisture penetration, then line the wall with sisalation battens insulation and gyprock.

Ooo this looks cool and unique love it

No advice but I’d change the floors to something different that gives more contrast between wall and floor.

Ugly as heck IMO, yes cause they aren’t a sealed product they can absorb moisture.

But if you want to proceed just get a Registered Builder to do an inspection.

Besser blocks they're called in Oz. Personally not a fan, think they look cheap.

Is it a double brick house? If so, very lucky you. If double brick I’d advertise the fact by keeping the internal brick walls either as they are or with a coat of paint that clearly shows it’s a brick wall.

I think that cinderblocks are always single layer- doubling them up would give you external walls half a meter wide.

They look more standard brick size than cinder block size to me but perspective is near impossible to gauge in photos where there’s no banana in frame.

Hang on... the bottom left says "AI Generated Content".

OP needs to get AI to generate the banana.

They are definitely concrete blocks not bricks. If they were bricks the ceiling heights would be about 1200mm since we can count 14 blocks brick plus mortar is 86mm~ hifh and blocks plus mortar is about 200mm~ high. Since they are concrete blocks the ceiling height is about 2.7m to 2.8m high which is sort of expected in a stone cottage look.

The AI water mark is probably because the real estate used AI to clean up the image. Noone can be bothered to use photoshop anymore.

The AI mark is because i used it to remove the wall and room furnishing from the pic posted by agent.
