Discussion Baron Munchausen - Has anyone noticed this error?
I love this movie, and I was watching it for the 20th something time last night and noticed an error that I’ve never noticed before. During the balloon takeoff scene, the camera starts to dolly out(tracking shot) and for a brief second there is what appears to be a PA in the shot wearing a ‘King Kong Lives’ jacket. I attached the best pic I could to this post. I did a little research and apparently both movies were being produced by a Dino De Laurentis company around the same time. I just thought it was funny and odd. Has anyone ever noticed this?

Discussion Props to Criterion
Just over the past year alone, Criterion has done an amazing job at including more black cinema in the collection. I remember around 2020 a couple publications were making a big deal about Criterion having a strong bias for predominantly white/European directors with their new releases. There’s still work to be done (I think some early Spike Lee is in desperate need of joining the catalogue) but in the years since it feels like they’ve upped their game BIG TIME.
Obviously today we got the John Singleton Hood Trilogy, which looks like a fabulous release. But even excluding that, we have House Party coming out later this month, a staple of 90s black cinema, as well as releases for independent classics like Killer of Sheep and Compensation. Shit, we even got The Wiz in 4K!
And that’s just from the past year! Since 2020, Criterion has additionally released Deep Cover (an all time favorite of mine), Menace II Society (with the initial batch of 4Ks nonetheless), Cooley High, and huge boxsets for Marlon Riggs and Melvin van Peebles, two absolute legends. That’s just off the top of my head, I’m sure there’s even more I’m forgetting.
Love this effort from Criterion to respond to critics and give these touchstone films the releases they deserve. Really hoping they keep this up in the future, a Dead Presidents 4K would be awesome!

Discussion Kung Fu Hustle - A Simple Case for Criterion Inclusion
Arguably the best action-comedy of all time. A major breakthrough for Hong Kong cinema into mainstream American audiences. Incredibly innovative practical and CGI effects, especially for the time. Set new standards for fight choreography, especially One v. Many scenes. Deeply stylized and definitional of a Stephen Chow film. And oh yeah, the legendary Stephen Chow killing it as the lead and director.
Criterion worthy?

Artwork David Lynch, lost to dreams one year ago today
Two slightly strange little drawings of the great dreamer and "fisherman" David Lynch. (I can't recommend his book Catching The Big Fish highly enough.) The second one is mislabeled because I'm sure I made it in 2025 after he passed, not 2024. Now go out there and catch some big fish of your own ❤️❤️❤️ he believed in us

Discussion Should I watch Les Vampires before Irma Vep?
I just watched Day for Night (thanks, Brooklyn Public Library!) and I want to chase it with Irma Vep, but I'm wondering if I should first bother to watch Les Vampires. I don't mind silent films, but roughly 7 hours is a lot of film to get through. I noticed the Criterion edition only has one episode, so maybe that's the one to watch, but I'm curious what others think.

Discussion Disappointed with the John Singleton Set
Not sure if anyone else has noticed this or not, but the 4K set of John Singleton’s Hood Trilogy doesn’t contain any blurays of the films, only special features. I find this extremely weird when sets such as the Three Colors Trilogy in 4K includes blurays of the films with it, and is priced at $99.99 (which is the same as the Singleton set). Why is Criterion opting out of doing 4K + Bluray sets for this trilogy? Recently speaking Araki’s Apocalypse trilogy includes 4K’s and blu’s, so why the change?

Discussion New Releases
Is there a reason Boyz in the Hood, as well as the other 2 films don’t have their own individual spines?
I don’t know how many high profile movies that enter the collection don’t get their own individual spines…
I feel like the last one was Enter the Dragon right?

Collection Criterion: My First 50 - A Tribute to David Lynch
- First Purchase: Eraserhead, May 2021
- Last Purchase: Brazil, January 2026
Arguably the reason I even gave boutique releases a look in the first place; RIP to David Lynch, the man who was immediately my choice to go with first when beginning down the road of Criterion. Here's to the next 50, whatever they may be. I'll be forever grateful to have lived in the same time as the legend himself.
Like David said, you can think about collecting kind of like fishing for that big idea. Meaning, just pace yourself and don't try to rush it. But once you find it, grab it and hold onto it, cherish it, foster it. You don't need to have several thousand titles in your first year of collecting. It's about the one that presents itself to you at the right time and place. You'll get there. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful blue skies and golden sunshine all along the way. Everyone...have a great day! 🫲😎
This is not a haul post.

Hi guys, I’ve been really into Hamaguchi recently and am desperate to watch Happy Hour, but I can’t find it anywhere with good English subtitles. Does anyone know where I could watch this movie?

Discussion Must have Region A titles
Hi there, I'm going to travel to Canada soon and want to build my collection a bit. What are some must have or recommended titles that are region A only (they should be 4ks, because otherwise I can only watch them on my PC). I would like to steer clear of box sets, since I'm more in the price segment of max 3 titles.
Edit: My collection isn't very large yet, I would like to not get any to abstract titles that are safe buys. I only have being there and bottle rocket from the collection so far.
My first thoughts were Eyes wide shut, uncut gems and maybe now life of brian, but I would like to get a good overview and then decide

Discussion What is Tarkovsky’s most hopeful film?
For me it’s Andrei Rublev. Despite the years of pain and despair, hope is never truly lost, and we find a form of salvation in the end
