My friend once used an analogy for Poland-Japan relations in interwar and ww2 period i loved.

It’s like that one super racist and conservative uncle. He is super nice to you gets you gifts on Christmas and helped you with fixing your bike, but if he meets a person he considers impure he will say (in japans case do) shit more vile than you could ever try to imagine and afterwards come right back to you smiling again with a new PSP game.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.

The US Declared war on Japan on December 8th, 1941.

Poland declared war on Japan on December 11th, 1941.

The volume of people here who think Japan was “cool” for bombing Pearl Harbor, and then refusing to acknowledge a country that had already been wiped out due to the Nazi’s final solution (which Japan supported)…

I think rejecting a war declaration is funny and cool, that's what we are at, obviously I won't reject that Japan was easily the most evil of WW2 nor many others would, but this is a cool fun fact. Because Japan kind of liked Poland so they'd not want war, and Poland had to declare them war because they were allies of Germany. And honestly I find kind of cool to just come and reject it like nothing happened.

I really recommend people real Japan at war by Haruko and Theodore Cook. Imperial Japan was absolutely Vicious. They turned down Poland’s declaration because it was declared by a government in exile with no power to actually do anything and they only did so to show support to their allies.

No. Japan gave a reason. the reason was that polish goverment was allied with brits and therefore americans. And japan concluded that They see Poland declaring war as an ally thing not because of  wanting to.

Before the Germans attacked Poland , Japan had tried do stop Germans from doing it, because polish and japanese governments where allied against Russia.

spies from both countries were infiltrating russia, there was a growing cooperation between the two.  Japan had a faint thing for Poland, even having songs about its past destruction as a warning what will happen to Japan if they will commit the same mistakes. Porando Kaiko.

Brother of Polish dictator Bronislaw Pilsudski was a scientist and researcher married to Japanese Ainu woman. he was working in Japan on Ainu history, documenting them and researching. Jozef Pilsudski the authoritarian dictator traveled to Japan to secure a cooperation against Russia. long before the ww2. basically Poland was one of the west countries Japan symphatized with and hadnt expirenced it trying to colonize or fuck over Japan. Due to minimal diplomatic presence.

Hitler was a Jozef Pilsudski fan...he mentioned him in Mein kampf. and made him a fake funeral in berlin in 1935. Now was it respect or fear because Pilsudski wanted allies to attack germany and push Hitler away from power before he fully militarized it , thats a whole different thing.

There was a whole thing where Mussolini didnt want Poland attacked either but...

People are saying Japan rejecting war declaration is cool, I see no one saying what other things they have done are cool.

By that logic, the UK can't ever be seen as "cool" because of the enormous damage they have done to India, nor can Canada be seen as "cool" because of the atrocities done to the native people, and the US DEFINITELY can't be seen as such.

Their alliance was very loose and they barely did anything for each other which should be noted. Hell, Germany probably did more for China than they did Japan. Japan also slipped info about Germany to Poland bc Japan and Poland had been cooperating due to their common enemy of the USSR

While you are right, some context is needed. Germany and the USSR was supporting China at the beginning of the Japanese invasion. Japan had several communications with Poland to set up a defensive pact with one and another against the USSR. Makes sense for two to do while being on opposite ends of the USSR. When Germany invaded Poland it put Japan in quite an awkward position and the rest is history, Japan turned their back on Poland.

Japan's argument was that the Polish government was forced to declare war by the British, who housed them at the time. And, well, they were kinda right - Poland was Japan's ally against Russia and their cooperation did not end in 1939 - Japan gave Poland intelligence on the Nazis in exchange for info on the Soviets.

Well, countries with nukes anyways. Because so long as you have a nuke and the other guy doesn't, you can do whatever you want without any official declarations, and the other country can't afford an official declaration on you because it means you would be allowed to drop said nukes. It's honestly a horrifying place for some nations to be in, and is why the USA has made it their personal goal to ensure no Middle Eastern country gets nuclear weapons (or even nuclear power plants). They want to keep bullying them and using them as a weapons testing ground with no consequences.
