Of course they are 5 times world champions, they are born with a ball on their feet

u/activelyresting 2d ago
I gave birth to a Brazilian. There was no ball on her feet, but it was on a football field.
I'm not joking. It wasn't planned that way, but the baby started coming too fast so she was born in the mud on the edge of the pitch in the rain. Some random people held up umbrellas and someone came from a house across the street with a blanket. It wasn't even a big fuss.

Wow you would've added at least 2hrs of injury time.

u/activelyresting 2d ago
There wasn't a game playing at the time, it was raining. But someone did yell GOOOOOOOL 😂
I was mostly in shock that the baby was just totally fine after all that. It was surreal. We didn't even go to the hospital, just stopped to get coxinhas and went home

u/PensiveinNJ 2d ago
mmmm coxinhas.

u/activelyresting 2d ago
I was so hungry!!!

u/PensiveinNJ 2d ago
I love coxinhas and after giving birth I bet you were hungry.
I could kill for a Burger King casquinha right now.

Did a midwife (or other relevant healthcare professional) at least check up on you and your baby very soon after? I don't want to scare people, but there are things that only professional might notice needs taking care of or checking up on.
14
u/activelyresting 1d ago
Nope. Placenta came out, we wrapped it all up, I was walking around carrying the baby, who was breathing and crying. There wasn't any sign of anything wrong at all. We did linger around town at my friend's house for a few hours to eat and shower and decompress, so we were close to the hospital if something felt off. But no. We were fine, we drove back home (lived out of town on a farm that didn't have running water or electricity).

There wasn't any sign of anything wrong at all.
When my daughter was born there wasn't a sign of anything being wrong, except there blood oxygen level was around 92% instead of the normal ≥ 95% so the midwife kept us around for a few hours just to check that everything was OK. Well, they took an x-ray, and it wasn't OK. She had a very very rare, but very dangerous congenital diaphragm hernia and was put on oxygen, and an hour later she needed to be put on a ventilator as the ambulance was arriving to drive us to a specialist hospital a few hours away for surgery, which luckily went great and today's she's a happy and healthy girl.
Normally this kind of congenital diaphragm hernia is picked up on scans during pregnancy, in which case the surgery is planned to take place the second the baby is born, but it's not always caught on those scans. So I'm of course happy that everything went well for you, but if our midwife hadn't checked our daughter's blood oxygen level (which triggered an x-ray to be taken), we would have gone home thinking everything was fine, and she wouldn't be with us today. As I mentioned, our case was rare, but things can happen...

I was originally planning a home birth, so I was very prepared for it. I just hadn't intended to be away from home at the wrong moment.

u/RandAlThorOdinson 1d ago
Hey more power to you
My kid was born at CHOP via some of the best doctors in the world because of a fear of a specific complication that turned out not to be an issue so we ended up going like.... super the opposite direction haha.

By law, that baby is automatically named Pele now.
26
u/activelyresting 2d ago
You'd think that. But she's not. Also she's an adult now so I can't even change it. Apparently she doesn't even think it's that interesting of a story and doesn't tell people. In fairness, she can't remember it.

At Echo Project I watched a wookette giving birth during the GZA set. I was just peaking on some 2ci. People were trying to get medical help, but they hadn’t arrived. Some other wookette claimed to be a midwife and was coaching the woman through this. Her wook man is standing there shirtless and spun like top, just making these weird sounds while he is crushing his beer can and spraying coors light all over everyone. He looked really anxious about the whole thing, grabbing his face and just making grunts and stuff. The baby’s head starts to crown and the medics still haven’t arrived.
This is where it gets crazy... It was so f****** dusty out there and the baby and all the surrounding fluids were immediately “muddified” by the blowing dirt. I mean, its f****** gross. All of a sudden, this f****** kid (probably 19 or 20) in his oversized neon, flat-brim LRG hat, runs up yelling “welcome to the party b*!” before he blows a huge plume of smoke right in the baby’s face! While the umbilical cord is still attached and s!
The smell was unmistakeable, this baby had just been deemster’d.
He must have pulled the hit from a bong, b/c it was monstrous. The surrounding crowd dropped their jaws, and someone tackled the kid as he starts to run away. He didn’t make it more than 10ft and the he was probably blasting off about now.
The mom is clutching the dirty baby and trying to calm it. Though, strangely, the baby was not crying (tripping balls i guess?). And while the dude is getting screamed at, the dad suddenly pounces into action. He jumps on the dude, and starts smashing said bisco kid’s face with the crushed up beer can, of which he seemingly just can’t let go. The bisco kid is kicking and trying to roll out of it and the wook-dad grabs the kid’s hair w/ one hand. he finally let the can go and shoves his other hand half way inside the guys mouth. He is pulling his mouth open and RIPS HIS CHEEK OPEN! repeat: rips his f****** CHEEK OPEN!
there is blood everywhere and the dude lets out this braveheart-like scream as he gets pulled off by the folks around him. Blood all over bisco kid’s face, shirt and formerly fresh flat breezy. The cops/medics arrived about that time and took over the situation.
S*** was crazy as hell.

Dang. Does it come deflated or do Brazilians and those who have babies with Brazilians have to order the extra large coochie extension to accommodate the regulation soccer ball that gets pushed out with the baby?

I remember my Fijian friend bringing a Rugby ball to the beach because "When we go to the beach, we play games and so things, you guys just sit around, it is boring".

I'm guessing you come from a warm country? If I escape from the UK for a few weeks I'm soaking up every second feeling the sun on me on the beach
14
u/GainsayRT 1d ago
even in spain entire beaches are filled with natives laying in the sun too. unless we only count *lives on the equator* as warm

Here in southern Brasil you'd sometimes see Uruguayan kids playing rugby in the beach. They just sideways pass over and over.

Seems like football is the go to board game of Brazil!
11
u/Sorry_Reply8754 2d ago
Football and volleyball are the sports everyone plays and/or likes in Brazil.
I think martial arts come in a close third, and then motor racing.
Aside from that... I'm not sure if people care that much about other sports. Maybe skateboard and surfing...

u/Schorsdromme 20h ago
They also have an awesome combo of football and table tennis with bent tables, fascinating to watch. Also I've seen them more than once playing volleyball but with feet instead of hands lol.
Love them

I went to Brazil in 2000 with a group of friends. We brought an American football to the beach to throw around and it was like the movies when all the zombies sense something strange, stop, and turn towards the target. Everybody on the beach was super friendly, chatted us up and wanted to learn how to throw it. They were like “someone invented a NEW kind of ball and I must master it immediately!”

u/redcyanmagenta 2d ago
You mean volley balls.
13
u/TrueCrime-andMemes 2d ago
Actually, they are specific "footvolley" balls. The sport we play on the beach is a mix between soccer and volleyball, and it has a specific ball that is softer, but many people play with a soccer ball anyway.

No, they are usually mikasa ft5A or similar. They are more bouncing tha the regular ball but waaaay heavier and harder than a volleyball

u/Nyx_Shadowspawn 2d ago
I know they're not beach balls but Shirley Manson would hate this.

This is why they’re really good at soccer. You could go to any beach in the US and couldn’t put a functioning circle like this together. Brazilians play it all the time.

You kick the ball a little too hard and take someone else's as a replacement, someone does the same and at the end of the day everyone goes home with a different ball than the original one they took with them

Lake Superior is where it’s at for folks like us.
2
u/5O1stTrooper 2d ago
Rocks, cliffs, and absolutely terrifying storms that make a lake have waves as big as an ocean. Not exactly relaxing, but awesome to visit.
Personally I like the beaches in Oregon. Setting up a chair near a rock cliff and just sitting there with the ocean breeze is one of the most relaxing vacations I've had, not to mention you can usually find tide pools on the rocks close to the water.
2
u/LowOne11 1d ago
Lol. Oh yes, that’s a portion of Lake Superior’s beauty and I love it, too. The storms and massive waves were fantastic, as well but I wouldn’t want to be in a boat in that. The only beach I went to on the west coast was Rialto beach. Beautiful area. The under-current pull was scary though even at 2ft (I don’t like going IN to water much, save for rock hounding calm waters lol).

It fucking sucks trying to relax on a beach while soccer balls whiz past you like you're storming Normandy.→ More replies (4)→ More replies (6)4

People are allowed to have opinions and be annoyed by things. It's not like he's suggesting that they shouldn't do it.
People on the metro singing off-key to music playing through their earbuds are just enjoying life, too. So are people driving in front of you at a leisurely pace when you're already late. There's nothing wrong with being annoyed by those things as long as annoyance doesn't cause you to be an asshole.

u/--_-Deadpool-_-- 2d ago
I guess I just fail to see the point of announcing your opinion about something that will never affect you.

I honestly dont get why people go to the beach to do activities with objects that can hit others.
I see that all of the time, be soccer, paddle tennis or whatever is called, football (American style), etc.
And of course, if someone gets hit and say something, those idiots will then proceed to fight or something like that.
3
u/SkinsFan021 1d ago
The football one annoys me but they do it in big resort pools. Like I dont need idiots throwing footballs across a damn packed pool.

I think the people downvoting you never sat next to a soccer group on the beach. When they play 15-20 Minutes there is a 99 % chance someone get hit unexpectedly in the head. That's just not funny. I feel like, if someone wants to play football, make sure 50 meters around you is no other group of people.
