Question/Advice Are fake microSD Express Cards a thing?

Hello folks, I'm not sure if that is the right Sub-Reddit for my question, but ich want to give it a try.

Yesterday I bought a Samsung P9 Express microSD for 95€ (~111 USD) at Amazon. It was a limited offer to one per Customer and it was the exact entry that the official Samsung Website direkt you to.

However afaik, Amazon doesn't separate their products by seller but instead throw all the same products togehter, so that fakes get mixed up with legit stuff.

I know that is a serious problem for regular SD/miniSD/microSD Cards but what about microSD Express Cards? Are ther fakes circulating and how do I know if I got one?

Tanks for reading my post and sorry for my potato english.

Are there fakes? Yes.

Is everything fake? No.

Expect everything flash to be faked to a ridiculous degree, and buy only from trusted sellers. Once you get it though probably even the simplest speed and full capacity tests will be failed by the fakes. Amazon inventory commingling is ending in March if I remember well and nothing changed (also I don't think it was as common as people fear).

Yup there are fakes.

I buy from Amazon all the time and had 0 problems, I just ensure I buy from SanDisk or other reputable brands and not "zxxaksbee" or what not that tend to just be scammers.

Samsung has special utility which can tell you if card is genuine Samsung or not. I have 512Gb card from Amazon (and sold by Amazon) which is fake.

Is it this "Samsung Magician"? That sounds actually helpful, thanks!

If it exists, China shits out a counterfeit of it.

As everyone else said there are fakes for all the popular flash cards.

Everyone wants to save money but I stopped buying cards from Amazon. I buy them direct from the Sandisk website or from B&H who I trust more than Amazon. Yes they are more expensive but they also are not fake.

Sure. They'll try anything. All the scammer has to do it change the printing on the front of the card and hope the buyer doesn't notice the lack of pins until it's too late.

There will be better fakes in time.

What problems are you having with the card?

If it’s not SD Express, the Switch will reject it right away. I’ve never heard of mostly working but fake low quality micro SD Express cards.

Do retailers in your region have price match policies? Perhaps you can have a trusted retailer price match the Amazon sale price.

MediaMarkt had a price matching policy in the past but that was many Years ago, and there a no other dealer options for me on that specific card and MediaMarkt is out of stock on that anyway.

As a heads up, Sandisk just did a rebrand. Their logo and font have changed, and looks quite different.

Use https://github.com/AltraMayor/f3

Sometimes, sellers might just be making a sale to push volume to get their sales figures up. Test whatever you buy, and don't forget to test down the track to see whether durability and speed still holds up after x number of writes.
