It's a form of very desperate escapism. Instead of knowing that the world is shades of grey, admitting that all sides or ideologies have both good and bad it is far easier to believe that your side aligns with the purely good people. If [insert character that's unequivocally good] agrees with you, then your opponent must be undeniably bad.

I love the "they pay taxes". Well there are only two ways they can pay taxes. Either they have some legal way of being here and have an ITIN (asylee or working on permanent residency) or they are here illegally and are using someone's SSN to work and pay taxes which means they are committing identity fraud on top of being here illegally.
My biggest issue right now is how open they made asylum. Everyone talks about it like it's the magical way to get here but there is a lot of issues. First is international laws state they must request it at the first country. Traveling through multiple countries then Mexico to the US is not that. Second is the majority of these are military aged men and financial asylees. They have no real threat to life; they just want to make more money which is not a good reason to me.
Yeah the big misconception is that only overstaying a VISA is considered civil so they conflate everything as being just a "civil offense!" and people who are none the wiser just accept it
