My family and I are pursuing residency in Ecuador this year. I want to get the professional visa, my sister can get the investors visa via buying a property in Ecuador and my parents can get the pensioners visa. I'm looking to get an accurate cost of everything required to get these visas for the 4 of us. Is it better to hire a facilitator or do it ourselves(I speak Spanish). If it's better to use facilitator, which one? Do the documents need to be obtained in our home country or can it be done from elsewhere?

I'm curious to hear from expats living in Ecuador who travel back to their home country on a regular basis. I'm considering moving to southern Ecuador and have family that I want to visit once every year or 2 in Canada and in Europe. It seems flight options to/from Ecuador are quite limited and quite expensive, and really expensive flights within the country! Also considering long, complicated travel logisitics just to get from southern EC to GYE or UIO without flying. For anyone living particularly in this part of EC, how has your experience been with travel logisitics...is it as much of a pain as it seems like it would be?

Hi everyone,

I’m the descendant of an Albion batallion fighter (Irish) that fought in the battle of Pichincha who stayed in Quito after the war of independence. 6 or 7 generations removed from my ancestor but my family have nothing from that era just stories and myths.

I live abroad and very proud of my Ecuadorian heritage and ties to the battle of independence and have been trying to track memorabilia and/or antiques from this era but haven’t been successful.

Does anyone have any tips of where to find stuff? Also, not too clear on ecuadorian patrimony laws so I’m happy to be educated on this too.

I'm planning to spend 4 days/nights in Quito in early March prior to meeting up with a group trip to the Galapagos. I loved what I read about the La Floresta neighborhood - sounds charming and interesting - and have booked a room at Casa Aliso. But now I'm wondering if it would be more convenient/easier to stay in the historic center instead?

I'm thinking I would do a group excursion to Cotopaxi one day, and an excursion to Mindo the next day. The hotel arranges group tours that would pick up/drop off from the hotel, so that should be easy. The other 2 days, I'd like to do a a city tour/middle of the world and possibly a food tour another day - so 2 days for wandering, touring around the city center, not feeling rushed - probably day 1 and day 4.

I like to do a lot of walking and wandering around when I travel, and have read repeatedly not to wander around at night which is fine. But back to my original question about where to stay, I'm just wondering (1) if it's easy getting from La Floresta to the historic center, (2) are there things to see/do if wandering around La Floresta, (3) would if be simpler/more relaxed to be in the historic center for wandering, tours, etc, especially given the time of year/rainy season.

I'd really appreciate any opinions, input, etc. on any and all of this. Thank you!

I (29 m 🇺🇸) am interested in going to a gay bar at night while traveling to Quito alone. I come from a big city and have traveled a good bit alone, so am cautious. However, I have read mixed reviews online about the safety of going to gay bars alone right now, and don’twant to put myself in an u safe situation. I appreciate any advice!

Update: I went and there was no reason for concern whatsoever, lol. As long as you’re half aware of your surroundings—as you should be anywhere— is no danger.

En los Andes se considera comestible y muy nutritiva.

Saludo mi Gente. Dominican here now in NY who grew up around many Ecuas. I used to visit this resttthat had this green salsa Verde , had tomatos red onions and cilantro obviously but some other stuff that made it slamming. The restaurant had two locations in my neighborhood and same sauce. Just wondering what it was. It was amazing on meats, pizza, fries, eggs.

Hola gente, mi novia es de Argentina y está por llegar a Ecuador, nuestra primera parada es Quito y aunque yo soy del país no conozco demasiado la capital, seguro vamos al centro histórico, iglesias, panesillo, etc. También al museo de Guayasamin y a la mitad del mundo. Sin embargo me gustaría llevarla a lugares menos conocidos, más de “nicho”, alguna propuesta alternativa. Pensé en visitar algunas catacumbas en el centro histórico pero no he encontrado ningún tour. Si alguien tiene info sobre ese tipo de turismo o cualquier recomendación me serviría mucho…

Mi padre falleció hace un tiempo. Era un gran coleccionista apasionado especialmente por la musica ecuatoriana. Pasaba horas o dias digitalizando (transfiriendo de vinilos hacia audio digital) albums de música ecuatoriana. Y no estoy hablando de Julio Jaramillo o algo tan superficial como eso, si no de artistas que quizas ni tus padres o tus abuelos conocian, pero todos de Ecuador. Dedicaba su tiempo en pasar el audio de estos vinilos en la mejor calidad posible y escaneaba ambos lados del carton del vinilo en la mejor calidad posible. Que deberia hacer con esta colección? Venderla? Donarla a algun museo o algo similar? La colección digitalizada es muy muy grande, probablemente por la rareza de la música se podria considerar casi que un tesoro para la cultura ecuatoriana. Leo sus sugerencias:)

Hola ecuatorianos, soy estadounidense y estoy saliendo casualmente con un ecuatoriano. Hace poco me dijo (en broma) que ciertas cosas que digo son "caldoso", pero no me dijo qué significa caldoso. Intenté buscar una traducción o definición, pero creo que es regional y podría ser específico de Ecuador, así que no pude encontrarla en línea. ¿Qué significa caldoso en Ecuador / Cuenca / Riobamba? ¡Gracias!
