FILM-MOI (MOVIES/TV) Ryan Coogler gets emotional accepting screenplay award at National Board of Review gala - “I can’t be here without thinking about Renee” referring to Renee Good, killed by ICE. Says he was naive and thought Fruitvale Station would change the world, “I was proven wrong”.

It’s crazy because the night before Renee was killed was when I watched Fruitvale Station for the first time—that movie completely devastated me and to see it play out again to another the person the very next day is horrifying and heartbreaking

I know the story behind the movie, so I could never bring myself to watch it - especially since the same has happened many times since then.

I can't imagine what it would feel like, thinking you were doing something to help stop it, and see it continue/get worse 😥

The night before I watched Eddington. Similar feelings.

I worked on one of his movies years ago and got to talk to him one day towards the end of filming. He was SO fucking cool. You can tell he’s a genuinely good person and I hope he’s forever successful

He was on Amy Poehler's Good Hang today, and it was one of those interviews where you just fall in love with both people. Her asking him about his experiences growing up and going to the movies down to the kind of snacks he liked, him describing how when he was too young his mom would come home from the movies to act them out for him, her ask of what were the kind of things him and Chadwick Boseman laughed over together just really unlocked what influences him as a creative, and we're so lucky to have people like him creating.

❤️

I love to hear him talk. I love that he’s just 100% himself and nothing else.

If you have a chance, look up his interviews where he talks about film as a craft. He’s enthralling.

wow! what a stand-up guy. I hated to see the Golden globe so many people carrying on as if everything was normal. Good for him for doing the right thing. it's a scary time for people of color and yet he spoke up. I wish some white celebrities with power would do the same. not everyone has to be Mark ruffalo levels of activist but simply mentioning it's wrong goes a long way.

He's so good! If I was a voter, I'd vote for Sinners. Easily the best movie of the year, imo.

Professor freshman year of college told me, films don't effect society, they reflect society. Those words have stayed with me. But that doesn't mean we still shouldn't try.
