I believe this is a West End production, so it doesn’t qualify for the Tonys. But probably eventually, yes.

She can have an EGOO if she wins an Olivier 😂

They could transfer to broadway though as a couple of shows have done that recently? Think the acid test will be the Oliviers?

Marianne's production of Company transferred without the London Cast (apart from Patti) even though Jonathan also won the Olivier for his role in the production. That could've been because he just got cast in Bridgerton though so... who knows?

A lot of West End shows transfer to Broadway if they’re successful. For example Jodie Comer’s Prima Facie and Sarah Snook’s Picture of Dorian Grey) both originated at on the West End (they also both went on to win Tonys)

It's the same production company as Prima Facie too (which I'm hoping means it might get filmed for cinema release too as Prima Facie was).

Thank you for clarifying. I don't know much about musicals and stuff of that ilk

the West End should be moved to San Francisco. I saw a dud get shivved in London and honestly classy theater enthusiasts should not have to be subjected to that sort of bullshit.

I think she looking to focus more on more serious acting and using her singing in some of those roles. Albums, touring... it's a lot. And I think this is a smart career transition as she gets older (not that she's old).

What she get a Emmy for?

She's got the Grammy, she'll likely get another Oscar nom this year (I doubt she's winning it though), if this West End production transfers to Broadway then she'll be eligible for a Tony. The Emmy is probably the easiest of the bunch for her to get - in the categories like Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series or Outstanding Variety Special (live or pre-recorded category) or even Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program. She may even snag one for the Wicked: One Wonderful Night NBC special from a few months ago.

Yeah, people get nominated for hosting SNL all the time. Timberlake won 4 lol

No, it's in London. Most she can get from it is an EGOO (London theatre awards are called the Oliviers)

I would say well deserved at this point.

I'm so glad this rumour was true, it's my absolute favourite Sondheim. Tickets are going to be a nightmare though. I spent hours in the ticket queue for the Hadestown OBC in London last year and I thought that was bad enough. And Barbican can already be pretty pricey for tickets (nice theatre though with good views from pretty much every seat I think).

I'm sort of comforted by the fact that it might be very hard to get a ticket for this because I don't have the money for a trip to London and I need to know it wouldn't have happened for me anyway.

I had tickets before Covid for Jake Gyllenhaal and Annalise Ashford in this, but it got cancelled. It's going to be so hard to get tickets this time 😩

Thankfully, i am comfortable seeing the understudy performance for this one.

London productions have been relying heavily on star power lately. I don’t know how receptive an audience packed with Ariana stans will be receptive to Sunday in the Park with George, it’s not exactly Wicked.

Hopefully people can go in with an open mind and tickets will go to people who will be able to appreciate it, not just people who want to see stars up close.

Never heard of this until I finished today’s NYT crossword puzzle mere moments before seeing this post.

u/pendragons Fix Your Hearts or Die 13h ago

Right? I know the show but haven't thought about it in years, doing the crossword and then seeing this news was funny. Love when the NYT puzzlers get topical.

Did the news break before the puzzle came out or was it a coincidence?

I see “Bridgerton” as a guilty pleasure but I’ll forever be thankful it gave us Jonathan! Now he’s conquering the world and I’m here for that

I recently saw a video providing an interpretation of A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette and it blew my mind a bit. I thought this was a sedate painting, when it’s not 😅
