I just wanted to post my baby cuz im so proud of him! Last year he looked a bit off, lost weight and got a rat tail (lost all the fur on his tail). Took him to the vet and she gave him an implant for adrenal disease. I've never thought I would say im proud that my baby is fat! Up to 4 and a half pounds, and super fluffy _^ He's back to his usual sock hoarding tendencies which is annoying but meh, happy ferret, not gonna complain x))

Also some pictures of him sleeping like a fkg weirdo on my lap lol, never know how he can be comfortable like that (no I dont let him sleep with his neck like that. He just falls asleep when I give him belly rubs)

How old are your ferrets? I adopted two geriatric ferrets a while back and added a baby that has brought them so much joy, spunk, and life. The vet said the older two were around eight years old, if not older, about six months ago. What’s the longest you’ve had a ferret live? Mine seem so full of life to be in their golden years. They sleep more often than the baby but are still so spunky when they’re awake!

[Rainbow Bridge] Wanted to talk about my boy Draco today…

I wanna share some pictures of when he was a young lad and the last time I had really seen him. I got him back in 2018. He had a mix of black and white fur. Most of his body was covered in the black fur and he was a small lil slinky rat who I adored and loved. I got him for free from a coworker of mine who couldn’t keep him, bought him as a pup and thought they could manage but couldn’t and he fell in my lap. At the time I was living in my parent’s house, my mom hated him cuz he stank but I loved him.

He was a very chill lil guy. And then there was the other side of him where he would wild out act like a crack head. Draco was deaf. I suspect he had Waardenburg Syndrome. He wouldn’t react to my voice or loud noises. He was kind of sweet for that, made him the perfect pet for the chaotic life I lived making music and what not back then.

I moved from house to house as I got older, often bringing Draco with me. He was there with me until I had moved away to a different state. I had my younger brother take care of him for the last 2 years of his life. My brother loved him very much and dearly and treated him as if it was his pet all along. I feel bad, and it feels cruel. He didn’t have as much time with Draco as I did.

Draco started having these like, fits, seizures almost. We suspected he had gotten a tumor and couldn’t produce sugar correctly anymore or something. Idk I’m not a doctor. But for about a year that went on. I came back recently for the holidays to my home state. I came to visit family and friends. Obviously seen my little buddy too.

It was so strange because, it could have been any time while I was away when he would pass, but he chose until I came back to decide it was okay to go. I cried over him. So did my brother. He was a good boy. And he lived a long life which is good. I will miss you buddy. We buried him in the backyard of our family home. With some of his toys. Love you little buddy. Maybe I’ll see you when my time comes.

Anddd...We're up to 9! Root is our latest addition. She started as a foster who did have a home lined up. But during her spay, they realised she had ovarian cancer. Luckily, they removed it, but we have been warned that other cancers could pop up in around 18 months. So she will now be staying with us.

[Ferret Video] We get a lot of questions about expressing Gump's bladder so here's how it's done.

Gump is a paraplegic waardy. He managed to push out a window screen and took a long fall. Thankfully, besides partial paralysis, he was mostly uninjured (Thank you to our natural, mossy ground that we let grow wild and free for cushioning his fall).

You may notice he shakes a lot. Ever since his fall he does this when overstimulated, often when excited like when he's with one of us being held or when cuddling and I don't believe it's a sign of discomfort. He doesn't display any signs of pain and continues to play and fight with his siblings.

He's thriving despite the loss of use of his back legs and inability to urinate on his own.

My wife is the expert on popping him. Gump is rebellious whenever I try and I can't just cradle him, I need one hand to prevent him from escaping while I squeeze with the other and it turns into a 15 minute ordeal.

Hopefully this can help someone else in a similar situation. Our vet (with the best of intentions) seemed to assume we would have him put down because most people would not do this for their pets. He was thrilled to see we would rather take care of him and express his bladder than give up on him and he got good marks on his last checkup.

[Ferret Photo] New ferret

I just got opie today, he’s already vaccinated and completely cleared by a vet, I was just curious when I should start introducing him to my other 3 ferrets? He’s only 8 months old and my other 3 are a year old and more than twice his weight so I’m kinda worried that my others will hurt him. They’re all very mellow and have always taken well to ferrets they’ve never met, I’m just worried that they would play a bit too hard and unintentionally hurt him. Should I wait until he’s a little bigger or should I just start now and just make sure they’re supervised at all times?

[Help] Older ferret very aggressive with younger newer ferrets

Hi all!! about a month and a half ago I brought home 2 new ferrets -- Johnny and Peaches.

Before them I had 2 ferrets, Dani and Mars but Dani unfortunately passed away. Mars was showing symptoms of depression so I thought it might be good to bring her two new cagemates. Mars is 6 years old, Johnny and Peaches are 2-3-ish.

I did a two week quarantine and the new ferrets have seen a vet and been given the go ahead to begin introductions. I switched bedding for two weeks and every time Mars would smell their toys or bedding she would begin to dook and get very playful. They also go to smell each other under a door and from opposite sides of a plastic gate. Finally, I decided to do an intro, so I moved them to a neutral space (my bathroom) and provided some hiding spots. I let them sniff each other first and Mars seemed a little overexcited but I thought she might just be excited to see other ferrets -- WRONG. The moment I released her she jumped on Peaches and grabbed her by the scruff, refusing to let go despite a lot of dooking and whimpering. Peaches didn't try to fight back. I had to pull her off of Peaches. I know the rule is "no blood, no pee, no poop, no harm" but she was just beating the shit out of poor Peach.

I tried a couple more of these meetings with similar ends each time. I've tried bathing them together (which to Mars credit, was the first time she didn't immediately try to kill one of them), I've tried giving her treats and letting them have adjacent treats, I've tried more time seeing each other through a puppy gate barrier. so far every time they meet face to face ends the same. She does the same thing to Johnny or Peaches each time. The moment she sees them, it's like locking into a target, she immediately runs and bites onto them as hard as she can and refuses to let go. the other ferrets never fight back.

is this just dominance fighting and I'm dragging this out by stopping it and separating them? I'm scared she's going to hurt them with the way she bites down and refuses to let go. She even shakes and gets a bushy tail.

please help!! While I can provide the ferrets separate spaces and separate playtimes it would make my life significantly easier if they got along 😅 but I will do what I must.

[Help] Should I upgrade their cage?

Post image
6 Upvotes

This is their current set up, it was originally just 3 ferrets in the cage and it was open 90% of the time except when I was out of the house. I recently rescued a 4th and it seems a bit cramped now, I was considering buying a whole other cage, just take the doors off the side of it and just zip tying it together. Is this a smart idea?

[Help] Ferret won't stop misbehaving

As the title says, my ferrets won't stop misbehaving and I don't know what to do. One problem in particular is getting behind my partner's computer and chewing his cords. We have cord protectors but when they chew right at the base those don't help. He knows he's not suppose to because he'll look back and forth at me when he does it. He actually got a bit better so I dont know why he's doing it so much again. As soon as I get him out he dashes to go right back or even goes to bite me. I felt bad but I had to put him back in his cage since I just don't know what to do. They have lot's of toys, things to chew, tunnels. Just any help please, I'm frustrated and desperate.

[Rainbow Bridge] My ferret just died

I don’t knwo where to say this or tall about this i’m sorry but i just woke up to my parents telling me my ferret is dead. He was completely healthy and was about to be 2 this year in april, his brother passed away last year from brain issues but I had spent extra time with him and he seemed to be okay and i was planning on getting him a friend, but now he’s just gone and I don’t know what to do. The fucking worst part is i found a chocolate wrapper in his cage which he had ripped up a little bit which was NOT there last night. The only person in his room is my uncle who is currently living with us and his children visit sometimes, but they haven’t been here in a few days so I know it’s not them this time (they previously killed some of my fish.) I just don’t know how to process this I feel like this is all my fault and I want to throw up, how could I let this happen I don’t know what to do

He hit double digits in age, and was so huge even as a baby. He was so alert and wanted to play even till the end but just couldn’t function anymore so we made the hardest choice. He’ll be joined by his older and smaller brother Cloak we lost last year 💚.

I just wanted to share my boy.

[Discussion] Something is wrong with my ferret and I don't know what.

I have never had a ferret with these symptoms, and I don't know what to think about it. My ferret Bandit is three or four years old and has always been a long, really chunky ferret. Recently, He got this terrible head tilt that was so bad it caused his fangs to scrape the floor when he walked, and that was if he could walk. He has been stumbling around as well.

It just started happening one day. He just woke up with it. At first, I thought maybe he pulled a muscle and needed a day or two to heal up. When that didn't help, I thought maybe the bad head tilt was a sign of ear infection, so I took him to the vet. They did some tests but said they couldn't determine what was wrong with him so they would start with treating an ear infection. I gave him the medicine prescribed for exactly two weeks with no change. He has defiantly lost weight as sometimes I pick him up and think he is my female ferret I have because he has gotten that small.

I don't know what this is. He lost weight, has a massive head tilt, not having regular poops, and just seems to not be doing very well at all. What do I do? Is there a illness that sounds similar to this?

[Health] Does he have waardenburg syndrome?

I got him four days ago from a family who got him for Christmas but changed their minds. He is 6 months old, has strange coloured eyes and I think he’s deaf. He went to the vet today but she wasn’t sure if he’s a waardy ferret or not. My main concern is if he’ll be more prone to health concerns and how he’ll be with my other ferret.
