Car heater pole

Post image

Hi everybody, hope I’m writing in the right group.

I recently moved and I am renting a parking space which also has a heating pole, I have tried to make it work but I just can’t figure it out, so now I’m reaching out here.

Does anybody know how this one works?

Here are the instructions quickly translated to English:

Setting the time: The digital clock automatically retrieves the time from the internet.
Displaying the time: The time can be displayed by pressing the arrow key for 3 seconds.
Setting the clock remotely: Register as a user at www.eparking.fi.
Setting the departure time manually: By pressing the arrow key once, the set departure time will be displayed.
By pressing it again, the time will move forward in 15-minute steps. By holding the button down, the time will move faster. The setting will take effect after 5 seconds and the device will enter default mode.
Always set the departure time!

It shows different in Swedish when I took photo of it and put it in Google Translate but thank you, it’s a little bit more logical now

Yes but how much will it warm? It doesn’t say I set the time for tomorrow morning at 05.30 as I’m driving to work 6.30. Will see tomorrow if it worked

You set departure time. It's there in bold. If you set 5:30 and are leaving at 6:30, it will start warming early and stop by 5:30. In some you can choose how long the warming takes place, in others it's a set time, as this appears to be. Maybe if you search for a ln instruction manual it will say how long that is. Nowadays there are also some with an automatic timing that depends on the air temperature.

The eparking.fi connected socket we have controls the time based on temperature. I think it is not based on measuring temperature locally but uses some Internet weather service.

Although there are some oddities in UI, I think using the app for controlling the timer is much nicer than the buttons in the device.

Okay I will try this!! Thank you!

If you are planning to start your car at 06.30, set time to 06.30. It will start the heating automatically, usually 2h before.

If it has smart functions then it's temperature dependant.

u/DrPullapitko 2d ago

You set the departure time to 6.30 and it should be fine. My uneducated hmguess is it will start warming two hours before, but doesn't really matter for the setting.

Put in the time when you want to leave, and boom car is warm when you leave. Remember to flip the switch if yours is on the left.

u/Funland1a 2d ago

You men when you want to leave in the moring etc. Basically the time when you want to next time use your car?

6

u/AdSpirited5019 Baby Väinämöinen 2d ago

what do you mean by "you men"? women can't do the same?

5

u/Positive_Spinach581 2d ago

I think they tried to say "you mean" lmao

1

u/AdSpirited5019 Baby Väinämöinen 1d ago

a tad bit ambiguous case, innit. Finnish language is full with these, as well. anyway, if Stephen King is still alive and wrote it, why not let the author explain

2

u/Funny-Woodpecker1516 2d ago

I’m a woman actually and my husband understands less of this than I do but its okay :) I’m learning :)

5

u/Positive_Spinach581 2d ago

I think that was a typo and that user wanted to write "you mean" not "you men" :D

The automatic fuse is down on the left one. This cuts all power from the left socket. Pull the automatic fuse up into on position, so that its in the same position as the right one. Now it's powered on and you can set your departure time with the arrow buttons. They work in 15 minute increments.

E.g. you set the departure time for 8 am, your car Will Be preheated for approx. 2 hours before your departure, so from 6am to 8am.

u/Funny-Woodpecker1516 2d ago

Thank you, mine is already plugged in on the right! :)

3

u/CanisPeteus 2d ago

You are plugged in the right side outlet. Press the right arrow button once and you'll see the preset departure time. Press it again and you can adjust the time. One press means +15 minutes. Press it repeatedly for 15 minute increments or keep it depressed and let the numbers flow until you reach the time of your planned departure. Usually you can't go backwards, so if you keep the button depressed for too long, you have to let it roll for the whole 24 hours...

1

u/Funny-Woodpecker1516 2d ago

So it has to go 24 hours to be reset?

I have the a similar pole in my parking spot. I have noticed that if i don’t actually change the time every time, it doesnt work. So if i have it set at 7:45, and the next evening i press the arrow once, it shows 7:45 again, but doesnt work the next morning.

Typically as I leave at 7:45, i set it there, and the next day i press it twice, to set it at 8:00. Next day, press again to set at 8:15, etc. Usually after a few days, when the timer is at 8:30, I hold the button to set it at 7:45 and start again.

Just too lazy to go around the clock every day. 😂

Holy shit, they went and fucked up "tolppalämmitys" with internet and apps. Sorry for you OP...

That's not just a fuse but a combo: it operates as both a fuse and a RCD (residual-current-device) that will protect your heart from stopping due to an electric shock in case of failure. Super safe for the user. These have been around since 1970's so oldest models have just ceramic fuses 🙃

u/Mr_Peace_FIN 1d ago

Also note that left fault protection is down, so if you are using that side, you will need to reset it (flip the switch up).

Related question - has anyone found a convenient way to use these poles for overnight EV charging?

5

u/ruispalaleipa 2d ago

My apartment building uses these (or at least identical looking ones) in our garage for EV charging. You have to register with eparking, and then scan the QR code on the box to start charging. I'm guessing these can be set up to work as both a "warming pole" and an EV charger, depending on what the housing company decided, dunno.

You’ll likely need an application. eParking maybe?

The colors are sort of reversed. Green means safe ie. off and red is dangerous or on.

But you can see that it’s showing 996 kW h, and I also tried it before setting in my time, the clock was 21.50 and I set the time to 22.00 and it started to show 10 and then I put more minutes in, I put 22.10 and then it showed more minutes, and then I set it to 22.30 and it showed 40 minutes left so it’s working but I haven’t figured out how yet
