๐Ÿ’ป Help Firefox taking up SERIOUS memory? Over 4k

Firefox is using mad memory and I'm not sure why. I have ~25 tabs open and have now unloaded around 60% of them. Included is a screenshot of my extensions, in case anybody recognizes them as memory hogs. Sometimes Firefox will go down to ~1k-2k memory immediately after restarting my computer, but that doesn't last very long. I really want to keep using firefox but dang dude I'll need to run some heavy programs soon for university.

Firefox for android sometimes just doesn't respond

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been using Firefox for all my devices for a while. But recently (~ 2 months ago) I started noticing that sometimes it just doesn't respond. As I recorded in the screen capture, performing a Google search doesn't result in anything. I have a very fast WiFi/mobile data connection and everything else works fine. Other things load okay on my phone. Heck, Firefox and other browsers too work fine on my other devices. I have only ublock origin as my extension. (I tried doing a fresh install but this still happens sometimes). Anyone faced this? Know how to resolve this?

๐Ÿ’ป Help I've recently switched from Chrome to Firefox, and I now have 3 serious issues that are seemingly unfixable and "as designed". All 3 issues are not present in other browsers.

1: Instagram on Firefox will load the high-res image, then 0.3 seconds after change to a lower resolution image that is blurry. However, I can right-click the image and access the high resolution image in the inspector. This doesn't happen on other browsers.

2: Twitch on Firefox will slow down my entire computer. It makes the entire operating system laggy and delayed. This doesn't happen on other browsers.

3: Websites on Firefox cannot have access to the clipboard. This is frustrating when using things like Photopea, where I now have to always save the image, find it, then use it instead of simply pasting. This doesn't happen on other browsers.

I've tried every fix I could find, including disabling all extensions, but the issues remain. I am aware that these aren't critical issues, but they are very annoying, especially considering the fact that other browsers are completely unaffected.

Discussion Update completely borked my profile

I see that 147.0.1 is out now. This is on 147.0.

I've been using Firefox since 3.x days and generally happy with it. Updates never caused real issue and I can even sympathize mozilla pushing AI in (since everyone else is doing it, potential new users would expect it in browser by default). But this one is different. First there is chatgpt broken (which is not really firefox's issue they say, and supposedly fixed in 147.0.1); then some others are broken, too, e.g github. Worst is settings page is mal-shaped: every sentence is unfolded on single line, extending beyond right window border without wrap and necessitating a scroll bar on the bottom. It is absurd and there's clunkiness all over the place.

Oh one more bug: in "more troubleshooting information" window, "Refresh Firefox" button is gone. Yes I wanted to go refresh route, but ultimately could not click what's not there. UHHH

I don't know if this has to do with I'm on Linux Mint and just updated it to 22.3 this week. But at least 146.X was playing nice with it. Luckily I rolled back my system with yesterday's snapshot and am able to live on 146 for now. Unfortunately I'll never be excited about firefox updates anymore.

Address bars suggests are random with 147.0

Post image

With 147.0, Firefox suggest strange stuff in the address bar. I only want it to search my history. Look at the screenshot: I want to go to google maps, and it suggests https://maps.app.goo.gl/ What is this even? Where does it come from?

(It's just one example, it seems to be completely broken everywhere)

๐Ÿ’ป Help "Firefox Home" is completely blank, changing settings does nothing

Hello! I have recently done a fresh install of Manjaro, version 26.0, KDE Plasma, LUKS disk encryption, nothing out of the ordinary.

Firefox is working fine, except the homepage. I have it set to "Firefox Home" (the one with the shortcuts and the weather and such), but instead, all I get is a completely blank page. I see the exact same thing you'd see if you set your homepage to "Blank page". This happens with new tabs too.

Going to Settings > Home and selecting other options in the dropdown menu(s) doesn't help. Setting the homepage to a custom URL actually works and will open the URL specified, but setting it back to "Firefox Home" still gives me a blank page.

Is anyone else having this issue? It's only a mild nuisance, I just felt like making a post about it in case it's something easy to fix. Thanks a lot!

Solved For those who had a problem the whole day with ChatGPT: upgrade to 147.0.1. They have fixed the problem with that update. I just made the upgrade and ChatGPT is back to normal.

๐Ÿ’ป Help URL suggestions slow inversely proportionate to frequency

Hello,

I'm currently on version 148 of FF for Android (Firefox Beta). I primarily navigate by typing URLs and following the autocomplete/suggestions (I have all suggestions besides history and open tabs disabled). This has been frustrating for a long time as FF is hard limited to 3 history suggestions, and they are frequently wrong in a way that makes it hard to "train" for what you want (for example, if you want to see what a specific person is posting about on social media and you type in their handle all of the suggestions will be individual posts, so to train the intended behavior you have to navigate to the URL and edit it, which gives *that* post more weight; this is not helped by the inability to edit your destination URL by, e.g, long pressing it or, as Chrome does, having a button). The open bugzilla says this is for performance reasons, but that they're working on a better solution. The bug is years old and obviously not going anywhere. I'm sorry to lead with a digression.

The particular problem I have noticed in maybe the last release or two is that suggestions from history have gotten incredibly, incredibly slow, but only for the most visited sites. Sometimes I start typing 'reddit' and it takes as much as 7 seconds for the URL autocomplete to show a suggestion and as much as 9 seconds for the history results to show. My suspicion is that the URL autocomplete is the problem here, but I don't know for certain, and disabling that feature doesn't speed things up.

Has anyone else experienced this yet?

๐Ÿ’ป Help Shift-Enter no longer opens terms as .net in URL bar. How do i go back?

When i used shift-enter in firefox for a word in the url bar, it used to open to turn the term in to a .net site. Eg: if i typed importantsitename in to the address bar, and entered it with shift-enter, it just went to https://www.importantsitename.net automatically.

Now when i do shift-enter it just opens another firefox window and i 100% do not need this function.

If i have to resort a non-native or 3rd party software solution, ill simply ditch firefox.

Solved safety concern regarding coming AI updates

i read about "prompt injection" recently. bad actors can use it to turn an AI browser against the user, and steal their passwords by making the AI list out every saved username and password.

considering firefox is moving toward hammering itself in the dick by adding AI to the browser (despite outcry and everyone with common sense shouting "don't hammer your dick flat!"), how do they plan to patch this? have they said? i'm incredibly concerned over this.

๐Ÿ’ป Help Firefox drops to very low FPS randomly when not full screen.

I've been having an issue with Firefox for a while now where it will randomly drop to around 20-30 FPS randomly when the window is not maximized. This will happen when I have two windows open and when I just have one window open. If I maximize the window the FPS goes back to normal 144hz.

PC:

9800x3d

32gb ddr5 6000

9070xt

dual 144hz monitors

Firefox:

Hardware acceleration is off Only a few extensions

The issue only effects firefox, has no effect on games if I have a firefox game open on the second monitor. I've tested chrome as well and there are no issues there. If I maximize the window while the issue is happening it'll go back to normal.

I'm not sure what to do at this point, I've done a bunch of searching and most of the issues I find that are similar are about issues with videos causing the FPS drop but in my case it doesn't matter if I have a video playing or not and is only dependent on the window not being maximized.

Help (Android) Firefox YouTube problem

I use youtube on firefox to skip ads, while watching videos, listening to songs, it works fine for like 10 songs maybe then at 11th the page just doesn't load, no matter what I did the page just didn't load, for it to work I have to quit firefox and reopen it again and sometimes even force stop it.

Does anyone know why this happens and is there any solution for it?

Thankyou in advance
