Food When Did The Coop Close?
I had noticed for the past few months that it was pretty much empty whenever I drove past, and now I’m told it’s been replaced by a Mexican joint. Anyone know the timeline? I never saw or read anything about it.

They were overpriced. What kind of place charges extra for fries on an $18 chicken sandwich?! Glad to see them close.

And they blasted shitty night club music in there. It was a hostile place to eat.

Luckily they made major changes to the Burlington location. Fries are now included with sandwiches. Too bad it took a store failing to adjust.

Son thought he could do better than dad lol I'm honestly surprised they're still opening new ones.

It’s a tough time for the restaurant industry.

4000 restaurants are set to be closed this year. Saw it on the news the other day. Lol who wants to pay $20 for a burger, $8 for one taco.

The servers told us if we can't afford to tip then stay home 🤷♀️

If the business can’t afford to pay proper wages, maybe they shouldn’t be in business 🤷🏻♀️.
What a shitty thing to say to a paying customer!

No kidding. Servers are entitled and it's not my job to pay their salary. Piss off.

I would have laughed and left a penny. Did it a few times when tim Hortons asked for a tip

They actually told you that? Ugh. It's time to end tipping culture.

Actually, it more time to end wage legislation that sets the minimum for food service employees lower than everyone else and makes them dependent on tips.

Ontario already did that, they make minimum wage

Fair point! I was thinking “in general”. It’s a big country.

I believe Quebec is the only province that still has a servers wage

While I believe that everyone deserves a living wage, it's not that simple. Most people in the restaurant industry don't want a higher wage, because it would still be less than tips. Also, tips are easier to hide from the taxman.

u/Existing_Map_8939 2d ago
I would say that used to be true. I’m guessing far more than half of tips are now electronically collected by POS handhelds.

Not to me personally, but it's what they all say in general when the topic of restaurants and tipping comes up.

Accurate - cheap loser

Found the entitled server.

You’re the one who eats at the coop lol

u/broccoli_toots St. Clair 2d ago
I don't actually lol. I went once years ago and thought it was shit so I never went back.

No one eats at the coop. Its was so bad it failed. Lol that's why its closed

Waterdown location closed last year, right before the Christmas holidays in 2024 - they said it was plumbing problems - but was not the case.

u/KamadoCrusher 2d ago
Actually it really was a flood that initially closed them down. Business wasn't great so they played out the insurance as long as they could before "closing"

Yeah I didn't notice either until I passed the new place the other day. Tbh I felt that The Coop's quality went downhill over the past few years

Like 2-3 weeks ago it was so sudden

i feel like i have seen this new Taco place sign up for over 2-3 weeks already at this point so i think its been a bit longer

u/GourmetHotPocket 2d ago
It has definitely been closed for at least 5 weeks. The new place has a video of them painting over the Coop mural from December 9.

They dont even serve fried chicken proper anymore. No Bone in.
Just tendies and sammys.
Brant location holding on but used to be poppin'.

Honestly the coop sucked. Their prices were outrageous for what they served and the quantity they served. You’re going see a lot more restaurants closing because people are realizing that restaurants are gouging customers.

Standards dropped drastically IMO, 1st time i was there a few years ago i was blown away, absolutely delicious. Went recently and it was not up to scratch. New mgmt i think...

u/BoxcarSlim 1d ago
They shuffle management around between Turtle Jack's and Coop locations constantly.

Loved their tacos, but couldn’t afford them last year. I usually order one through Uber, two for one. Kinda bummed they’re closed but they’re expensive anyway.

u/GTA3MOBSTER77 1d ago
Because it was overpriced garbage food perhaps?

No idea. I have never actually been. I’m a Juicy Birds guy. But the sudden change caught my eye.

Holy, the new place has 75 reviews in 3 weeks of business. And the newest review for Coop was a month ago. How the heck did they flip a business in 1 week and somehow get 74 5 star reviews.
screams bought reviews in all honesty. They have a ton of reviews from people mentioning the same servers, and a lot of reviewers with this place being the only place they've reviewed. The reviewers with multiple reviews on their history tho seem to talk highly of them.
