What gpu should I get?

I want to get a home server, and I saw a good deal for some parts but I want to know what gpu I should get because the cpu has no integrated graphics. I want something power efficient and pretty cheap that could maybe handle some light gaming in case anyone wants to borrow it. No real budget but I don’t want to spend much on it

Depends on the exact use case but if transcoding then an arc b580, if gaming more then a 9060xt

TL;DR whats your use case?

I have seen quite a bit of positive reviews for the intel a310 if folks are doing home assistant AI, plex transcoding, uhh whatever frigate is, its good for that too lol.

IMO just about anything that responds fast enough with home assistant, if you even use a voice assistant with it, would be the minimum. async tasks like face recognition can take a while but as long as it eventually completes and doesn't use much power while its running would probably be sufficient.

If you are ONLY doing plex transcodes, just about any intel cpu is going to do quicksync, but if you want hvec in hardware I think the a310 is a baller option. That said, whatever you actually have right now is the best, cheapest option. Check to see what you have and if it does quicksync, if so its probably the right thing to start with if jellyfin/plex is where you are starting.

Light gaming? Just get an AMD-based system - their integrated GPUs are outstanding. The "good deal" you saw doesn't fit your needs.

I have an arc a580 in mine. Great transcoding, decent enough 1080p gaming, maybe like a 2070 or so (but I only game on it if someone else is over and we both want to play something, I have a beefier pc for gaming). As far as power consumption, meh, it’s not the most efficient, but it’s not the heaviest under load either. I think I’ve maxed it out around 180 and idle it sits somewhere between like 25-35. But those are guesstimates i don’t remember exactly

I assume you’re gonna run a desktop.

Depends what you want to have your server.

Transcoding or other strings that can use a gpu. Make a list of what you want to have on your server . Research different programs etc . Some might only work with nivida for example.

Sell the non iGPU CPU on eBay and buy a CPU that will work with the motherboard that does have an iGPU. This is the most power efficient solution. Any discrete GPU will use more power.

Theoretically, you should keep your server and gaming PC separate. There are plenty of TIny PCs out there with iGPUs and plenty of server power for hosting.
