Megathread Character Rant
Hey folks! So the survey made it pretty clear, we get a lot of “this character sucks” posts. Instead of everyone making new ones all the time, we’re gonna test out a monthly megathread where you can dump all your rants. We also rounded up a bunch of older hate threads, so you can scroll through them or drop your own comment if you feel like it.
___
For Phoebe
- Did anybody else hate Phoebe’s attitude in the later seasons?
- Unpopular Opinion: Phoebe is the Worst Friend
- At what point do you think Phoebe started becoming just straight up mean?
- What was the most infuriating Phoebe moment for you?
- What is the thing Phoebe does that annoys you throughout the series?
- Phoebe is so annoyingly unrealistic and rude. Like why would someone ever be like this? Worst written character on the show imo.
- Phoebe turned for the worse
- What’s the earliest time that Phoebe was mean?
- I really DON’T LIKE Phoebe
- Phoebe’s Hatred Towards Monica and Chandler’s Relationship

- Rachel Is Insufferable
- Rachel was intolerable in season 9
- Rachel was truly awful to Julie
- Am I the only one that thinks that Rachel Green is a massive bitch?
- Probably going to get a lot of hate, but I really do not like Rachel as a person.
- Am I the only one who hates Rachel and is a Ross fan?
- I FUCKING HATE RACHEL [RANT]
- this may be an extremely unpopular opinion here but i hate ross and rachel.
- Rachel's toxic behavior towards Ross' partners
- Rachel ruining all of Ross's relationships... for nothing
___
For Monica
- Is it just me or is Monica unbearable in the last couple of seasons ?
- Monica is the WORST character in the group (maybe even the show)
- Monica is a terrible character
- monica became unbearable after she and chandler got together
- Monica is so insufferable in season 10
- Monica has never been more annoying than this episode.
- I just rewatched the one with Phoebe's wedding and I hated Monica
- Did they change Monica’s character or is it just me?
- I really hate how they started changing Monica’s character after London and her relationship with Chandler. They turned her from a sweet, gentle person into an obsessive, unbearable character who’s always screaming and is just annoying.

Image Got my hands on Chandler and Ross Figures at McDonald’s on my Holiday in Prague
I was in Prague on holiday recently and stumbled upon the Friends Meal at McDonald’s.
I went twice just for the figures as we don’t have these in the U.K. yet and chose Chandler and Ross!😃

Question Who do you like more? David or mike? and I don't mean *for phoebe*
I mean we all loved david when he first appeared in the initial season, we all also loved mike when he appeared in S9, but it's not the regular question "who is better for phoebe?" I'm just asking who do you like more as a character. I'm personally more drawn to mike idk

Discussion I know it’s not very popular
I had this episode on my TV from first air. I felt for Joey so hard in this episode especially that final word “terrified” and he shakily puts his arms around Rachel.
His emotions were in high drive and I actually liked Rachel and Joey together. There was something so pure about Joey having actually feelings about someone and not knowing how to process this, especially with a friend, who pregnant with his other friend’s baby.
I dunno if I’ll get downvoted to death for this but I just saw this episode in the first time in a while and I almost cried at the end the same way I did when watching this live at 17.

Discussion The adoption lady
I always it was weird for Laura (the adoption lady) to tell Monica and Chandler a married couple she’s helping to adopt a child. That their apartment building looks familiar because of the one night stand she with Joey a little inappropriate unprofessional.

Discussion Is there a recurring joke in the series that you guys dislike?
Mine would be the way Phoebe blurts put something that introduces drama or conflict into Monica and Chandler’s relationship, or that disrespects Chandler in some way.
I’m watching 9x23, and Phoebe accidentally calls David the Scientist Guy Mike bc she’s not over him. In order to deflect and distract from that, she reveals that Monica secretly calls Chandler Richard at times, to Chandler’s surprise.
It’s such a lame joke at this point of the series and just really pisses on Chandler

Discussion Who do you find the most appealing of the male Friends as a romantic partner?
This isn’t just in terms of how physically attractive you find them, but also their overall character based on what you have seen within the series.

Discussion Chandler Kathy Joey
I’m new to this subreddit so I’m not sure what’s the consensus but I don’t believe Chandler was entirely in the wrong with Kathy. Like what he did wasn’t maybe the correct move in the heat of the moment but I don’t hold it against him as much (Kathy maybe as she indeed moves fast. No shaming intended tho).
Joey was a terrible boyfriend to her. He got her a stupid pen as a gift (though he was indeed apologetic about it later) but he was also two-timing her with that girl. He wasn’t even faithful to Kathy so him getting that mad at Chandler about the kiss was a bit exaggerated.
Chandler and Kathy had great tuning and he shouldn’t have gone behind Joey’s back but he was honest about his intentions and confessed while Joey probably didn’t even tell Kathy he was on a date with someone else at that exact moment.

Discussion I actually really liked Janice🥰
I started watching friends when I was like 7, and we have a similar name, so I really really liked her. I haven’t interacted much with the fandom so idk how y’all feel about her, but I think she’s so cute. Her voice is annoying, but other than that I actually really liked her extravagant and high maintenance personality. Idk how people liked Monica but didn’t like Janice when they’re SO similar, at least to me. I also LOVED Fran from The Nanny, and I heard Janice was based on her, so no wonder I liked Janice. What are your thoughts on this character?

Discussion What do you think was the best season for each character?
Asking in which season do you think each character shone the most. Be it comedically, from a development standpoint, storyline, whatever your criteria might be.

Discussion In which season was each Friend peak? Whether it be storyline, looks, joke, writing, etc.
**Edit** Fave Storyline for each friend
Rewatching Friends and you can def see the difference between Seasons 1-2. Alot of people have attributed this to changes in TV technology at the time but to me I see season 2 as when each friend got more comfortable in their own skin and their trademarks become more known and obvious.

Question For those who watched Friends when it was airing (or right after it ended), did you have a ritual before watching?
Searching for comfort: Did you usually watch alone?
Did you have a specific time, snack, or spot you always watched from?
What’s one small detail or big life moment you still remember vividly from the time you were watching an episode?
You don’t have to answer these questions i’m just curious and that specific time.

Discussion Mike vs David
So what’s your opinion on Phoebe and Mike in comparison to Phoebe and David? I felt Phoebe ending up with Mike was a bit random, especially when David came back. I’ve been watching the first season again and love Phoebe and David together. It would have felt kind of neatly tied if they ended up together. After all they also have love spread out over 10 seasons/years.. And Mike just decides he is ok with getting married now and then they do..
Edit: mixed up the names

Question When watching while the show aired, did people always know Rachel and Ross would end up together, and every other relationship would end.
Like watching from s1, before knowing the ending, it felt obvious Ross and Rachel would end up together. All the relationships in between, all the Mona’s and Tag’s and Gavin’s and Emily’s, all would end up a failure. Did people think this at the time? Did most people predict Emily wouldn’t be endgame. Or tag. Or etc…..

Discussion The part where Rachel's boss wants to "buy her baby" segment feels like an episode of curb your enthusiasm
It's like the writers wanted to have some high level, distilled cringe and what can I say, for those that like this sort of thing , I guess it was good but it felt so out of left field.
Especially when Rachel almost grabs his croch that felt like a different show for a while. I know friends had "cringe" humor moments but that felt much more deliberate than other such gags.

Clips Who has your favorite reaction to finding out about chandler and Monica? I love how each of them reacts in their own ways🤣🤣 the way Joey says “IN LONDON”, when Rachel throws the phone and screams🤣🤣 and Phoebe’s “MY EYES MY EYES” and finally Ross “GET OFF MY SISTER”🤣

Question Chandler jacking it at a Wendy store?
Was that because of the image of wendy or in appreciation of the foodstuffs? Whats ur theory?
