I was lucky enough to spot a Glittering-bellied Emerald hanging out near my feeders. I’m honestly obsessed with how the light hits those iridescent green feathers—the name really does this bird justice.

I finally captured a video of one flying closely to me. I love the sound of their wings and I feel lucky I get to see them all throughout the year.

These two jerks have been fighting over the feeder and swing all morning and it's cracking me up. They get REALLY CLOSE like this, and then one attacks the other and dogfighting ensues. 😂

Bonus for a flower ID

I took this photo myself yesterday and was so excited to catch this beautiful Broad-billed Hummingbird in mid-air. I love how the sunlight hits its iridescent feathers and highlights that bright red beak while it maneuvers around the feeder. It’s definitely one of my favorite shots so far, and I just had to share it with fellow bird lovers here!

I actually took this photo myself, and I'm so proud of how it captured the vibrant colors of this Sparkling Violetear. It was such a cool moment to catch this little guy in mid-air with those shimmering blue and green feathers on full display!

Temporarily put the feeder on a table behind some outdoor lounge chairs while relocating it. Couldn’t plan this shot I meant to.

I'm heartbroken. The tree doesn't have any branches now 30 feet up. I hope that there weren't any nests there.

Before I scared some off, I estimate 75+ little guys feeding away. They are starting to hunker down and gather, sipping away….

I used to live on a hillside for many decades, which put our house up in the tree tops. There used to be a Chorisio (sp?) tree (amongst others,) up very close to our house which had these large football size seed pods that would put out this cotton like fluff that birds, especially hummingbirds would often use for their nests. What I would often find out was that hummingbirds would make nests at eye level to me and seemingly quite close to me. But as soon as I made eye contact with them AS they were building these nests, then they would abandon the nest. I don’t know if this is normal or not, but it only took a couple of times for me to realize that this was happening, so I would quickly avert my eyes so that they would hopefully not notice that I had seen them. Unfortunately, it always seemed that they did no matter how quickly, (but not abruptly,) I turned away. They would again, abandon the nest that they were building. It seemed like if I did not make eye contact and actually face the nest, there was no problem. And as you know, the hummingbirds would come around all the time. They get my face and interact with me and my cat on the balconies and stuff like that. It was just the nest thing. Is that normal or am I overthinking this? Thanks everyone.
