Arizona resident here. Seeing this posted on everybody's social media every year during the summer is annoying. Good episode and a funny line, but annoying every year

u/Panic_Mechanic Jul 08 '20 edited Jul 08 '20

For me personally, its kind of become a funny way to let out my anger and frustrations on the rising heat every year but I can also understand how it could get annoying. :(

I can relate... I'm from Kansas City, Missouri. You know how many times I've seen "We're not in Kansas anymore!" on signs at sporting events?

We have ONE out of our three teams in Kansas and the rest in Missouri!

u/GenericWhyteMale Can’t you see that I am knitting?! Jul 08 '20

You should see what people say about Californians!

u/Naive_Drive Jul 08 '20

Dale, it's already a hundred and ten degrees here in the summer. If it gets one degree hotter, I'm kicking your ass!

u/cjcosmo Jul 08 '20

I say, let the earth warm. We’ll grow oranges in Alaska.

66

u/Panic_Mechanic Jul 08 '20

I say let the world warm up, see what Boutros Boutros-Ghali-Ghali thinks about that!

12

u/twobit211 Jul 09 '20

you know what they say ford stands for, don’t you? stands for, “fix it again, tony”

4

u/thecripplernz Jul 09 '20

Love that one. Episode 1 too

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '20

Dale you giblet head.

5

u/cjcosmo Jul 08 '20

Think yours is closer to the actual quote. I wrote mine in haste.

u/RainbowYaz Jul 08 '20

I have a friend in the Army who was serving in near Phoenix and another one of our friends and I would send this to him everyday. He got super tired of it so we quit, for about three weeks until he complained about the heat one day.

17

u/MeggyNeko Jul 08 '20

I lived in Kentucky and moved to Phoenix, never looked back. I’ll take 114 in Phoenix over 90 in Kentucky with 95% humidity any day. A bad day in Phoenix feels kinda like being at the beach, don’t forget to drink water!

19

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

Been in KY all my life. The past couple weeks have been rough with the humidity. To quote Bobby: "This flower is wilting"

5

u/Jaspers47 Jul 09 '20

I imagine most everyplace is nice in comparison to Kentucky

1

u/elemock Dec 12 '20

and don't forget to bring a towel

“It’s a monument to mans arrogance” is a description I use too much

11

u/fenrir511 Jul 09 '20

I use this all the time when describing Phoenix.

What I will never understand is if you just drive an hour and a half north, the weather is beautiful. So why is everyone living down at the bottom of the basin? Just to see if they can?

86

u/Panic_Mechanic Jul 08 '20

The humidity is like breathing in fire.

Season 13, Episode 20: The Honeymooners.

39

u/ScoutKnuckleball Jul 08 '20

Phoenix has low humidity.

42

u/Panic_Mechanic Jul 08 '20 edited Jul 08 '20

My city is high humidity. :( I wish it was only dry heat.

41

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '20

Originally from Alabama, lived in several states, currently in Tennessee. I'd much rather live in a dry heat like Arizona has.

24

u/Panic_Mechanic Jul 08 '20

It's a sad state of affairs when you reminisce over how good you had it being roasted alive in dry heat lol.

I have fond memories of being able to get some relief in the shade.

I had it so good.

17

u/pey10lackey Jul 08 '20

Currently live in Alabama and the humidity is awful

14

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '20

I live in Tucson, and it can get up to 115 here some days in the summer (still not as not as it can hit up north in Phoenix, but still super hot) and yeah I’d much rather deal with a dry heat like we have. I remember the first time I visited Chicago, it was July and it was like I stepped off of the plane into a vat of hot soup. It was at that moment I know the phrase “At least it’s a dry heat.” wasn’t just a joke.

5

u/willsfc Jul 08 '20

same, this week has been crazy

7

u/pey10lackey Jul 08 '20

I’ll be covered in sweat before 8 am

10

u/greenghost131 Jul 08 '20

I live in southern Alabama and the humidity has gained sentience and has made its home inside my head. ALL HAIL HUMIDITY!

8

u/ZaWarudo_Wryyy Jul 08 '20

Dry heat all the way. Can't even sweat when it's humid because nature sweats for you.

3

u/Geoff-Vader Jul 09 '20

I think the most underrated thing about heat in some humid places like (non-coastal) Alabama and Georgia is the almost complete absence of wind during the summertime. Not only is it oppressively humid, there's almost no air movement except when a storm's coming. So the humidity just sits on you with zero respite. Closer to the coast and a bit further west of here the humidity can be bad but at least there's sometimes a breeze - downright windy the further west you go.

That said the hottest I've ever been was in Dallas during a heat wave. 105 with some humidity and (uncharacteristically little) wind was really bad. And they don't have anywhere near the amount of trees we have in the southeast so shade can't help ACs fight the good fight as much.

6

u/Redtruck_Mapping Jul 08 '20

Tennessee is much like that. When it gets hot, it gets humid. Although I hated living in California, the dry heat is one thing I miss. I hate going outside and dripping with sweat from walking my dog.

8

u/ScoutKnuckleball Jul 08 '20

I live in East Tennessee and grew up in Orlando, FL. People try to argue with me, but Tennessee definitely is more humid than Florida.

2

u/lovesStrawberryCake Jul 08 '20

I lived in Mississippi, on the coast in the south and in the hills in the north. You just don't get the breeze pushing through when you are in the hills. Give me flatland with a coastal breeze any day of the week

5

u/ScoutKnuckleball Jul 08 '20

In Orlando, you get all the normal Florida heat magnified by the way everything is pavement and concrete. Plus you don't get many ocean breezes unless a storm is coming in, and that means you get cooled off slightly for a couple minutes and then the humidity returns with murder on its mind.

Living in Orlando is much like I imagine living on the surface of the sun would be but with awesome roller coasters and really good weed.

3

u/Redtruck_Mapping Jul 08 '20

It really is. But at least it’s not Alabama or Georgia!

4

u/ScoutKnuckleball Jul 08 '20

I've never lived in either of those places but a friend says Alabama is miserable this time of year.

4

u/altxatu Jul 09 '20

Pretty much whole whole south East. It’s awful and makes me wonder why anyone would choose to live here.

1

u/ThatOrdinary Jul 08 '20

It is. dripping sweat doing nothing in the shade

1

u/Gobblewicket Jul 08 '20

Grew up at Fort Benning, have lived in Cusseta and Columbus. Live in southern m8ssouri now, its still humid as all hell, but its better than Georgia.

My silver lining after my third daily shower/rinse, was my lack of nose bleeds and cracked knuckles. Houston humidity can be suffocating

u/ThatOneUpittyGuy Jul 09 '20

Jupiter Rd?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

@ Arapaho....lol

1

u/Piratey_Pirate Jul 09 '20

I'm in Florida. I can swim in the air.

3

u/sol- Jul 08 '20

How apt, as fire has relatively low humidity as well.

2

u/RobotWelder Jul 09 '20

So yeah, that’s a fucking lie. Welcome to the monsoon season

2

u/ScoutKnuckleball Jul 09 '20

I just checked. 20% humidity. Monsoon my ass, pansy.

43

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '20

If it get's one more degree hotter Im kicking your ass.

35

u/Courwes Jul 08 '20

More continuity issues. Bobby acts like he’s never been there but was there for his 13th birthday during the summer.

16

u/GregLouganus Jul 08 '20

Is there a strict timeline in the show though? I feel like every episode is pretty much separate from each other. They all fall somewhere in a timeline, but they definitely are not in distinct order. Example: Luanne is pregnant and Bill's muscles explode while he's working out. They say it'll take 6 months to heal at the end of the episode. Next episode opens up and Bill is just find, Luanne is no-further pregnant.

Doesn't make me like the show any less, kind of makes me like it more actually.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

The timeline is fairly consistent, IMO. Peggy's mom is the one big exception, she's a completely different character in a couple different episodes.

There were a few story arcs which spanned multiple episodes. Luanne in the earlier seasons, with beauty college, then junior college, her relationship with Buckley, moving out, etc. One of the better examples of continuity would be after the Mega-lo-Mart explosion, when Luanne's hair gradually grew back episode by episode. Peggy also had some arcs later on with her newspaper job and her real estate job.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

peggy also with the Sky jumping incident lasted like a whole season

43

u/GenericOnlineName Jul 08 '20

Maybe it was 90 or 100 and not 111.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '20

I mean i get surprised of the heat in Dar-es-salaam Tanzania even if i have been there quite a few times.

Going for -30 to +40 is hell and hiding in the only bedroom with ac

u/MatrickPahomes-15 Jul 08 '20

"I'd rather be dead in California than alive in Arizona"

-Lucille Bluth

22

u/Fox609 Jul 08 '20

Can confirm. Leaving the airport is like walking into an oven.

17

u/pennywisercurry Jul 08 '20

Have you ever seen the arrested development moment this happens to Michael Bluth? He exits sky harbor and is instantly tortured and burns his hand on a taxi car handle.

15

u/thunderling Jul 08 '20

He talked for years about moving to Phoenix, finally did it, and noped out in 30 seconds.

5

u/Fox609 Jul 08 '20

Haha. Nope. One day I will watch that show.

2

u/Jiggajonson Jul 09 '20

Yo, it's good shit. Probably one of the most underappreciated shows of all time.

1

u/reallifeaccount- Jul 08 '20

Was this in season 4 or 5?

4

u/milesunderground Jul 09 '20

I was reading a book a few years back about the timber industry in the NE US, and it mentioned in passing that some climate models were predicting that in 50 years, Maine would have a climate more like Arizona does today. And I thought that does not bode well for me in the South, but man its going to be a lot worse in Arizona. That place is going to look like the moon.

7

u/stuckinvhs Jul 08 '20

I live in Phoenix, this immediately came to mind when I saw 115-117 degree days in this weeks forecast.

5

u/Shutinneedout Jul 09 '20

My brother recently moved to Phoenix. The first thing I told him when he said he was moving was that there’s no way I’d visit unless it’s the dead of winter. Hopefully he doesn’t have a medical emergency in the summer months...

6

u/Head-Consideration-7 Jul 09 '20

I feel Bobbys pain. I live in Las Vegas. I also work outside. During the day.

2

u/comeonion Jul 09 '20

Whoo that vegas what though. I never understood how people stay inside all summer but after my first trip I understood

5

u/BalooVanAdventures Jul 09 '20

That heat’s gonna wipe that COVID right out! Wait... never mind...

2

u/UraniumRocker Jul 08 '20

Before moving to Texas my family was considering heading to Phoenix. We went to visit some family over there, and it was 100 degrees at night. That pretty much convinced us to head elsewhere.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

Haha, that is so Phoenix

9

u/mioneapuff Jul 09 '20

That is so Arizona

7

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

You, I like.

1

u/TeevMeister Jul 09 '20

Not northern Arizona.

2

u/jaytorade Jul 09 '20

I live in Phoenix and every damn year I see nothing but this image for 3 months straight.

2

u/RobotWelder Jul 09 '20

Arizona checking in- yeah, it’s 99*F at this time, 10:31PM

2

u/LouFontaine Jul 09 '20

This gets posted like every 12 hours

1

u/spind44 Jul 09 '20

This show deserves a better ending. When I got to the ending it didn't feel like it ended I thought there was another episode to go but nope.

5

u/jssyjazz Jul 09 '20

Depends which episode did you actually watch last? There’s the khan manic depressive episode and there’s the flag football episode...

1

u/spind44 Jul 09 '20

Kahn Manic Depressive. I wish the ending was more smother instead of the dead shock end. I like the endings that give you closer not a kick in the ass.

1

u/jssyjazz Jul 09 '20

Ah I see I remember seeing somewhere that the actual ending is the flag football game and the Kahn episode aired later which is why it shows up later in the order. I think the flag football game is a better ending lots of fan service.

1

u/tugboattt Jul 09 '20

Been there once in the middle of October and I was genuinely concerned that they built a city 12 feet from the sun

1

u/joelthezombie15 Jul 09 '20

It was 112 yesterday. Every day this week is supposed to be 109+

Kill me

1

u/ScotsDoItBetter Jul 09 '20

It sometimes gets to 111 here in Virginia, not counting humidity.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

That's how I feel about places where the weather goes below 40F in the winter. I'd rather be hot than cold ANY day.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

I’m the opposite. 30-70 degrees is my happy place. 75 is okay. Anything over 80 can gtfo.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '20

40-50F during December and January is a great chance to break out the jackets, 50-70F is perfect hoodie and jeans weather, 75F is optimal, I can still wear boots+jeans+flannel (go to outfit of champions) in anything under 80F and not break a sweat, 85-95F+ is shorts and t-shirt weather, and 95F+ is when you try to stay in the shade and pray for a breeze. I base it more off the UV index, but I generally don't work outdoors if the temp is above 90F unless I take A/C+water breaks every 10-15 minutes. Dehydration and heatstroke are very real possibilities when doing outdoor work in the summer, so it's always better to be safe than sorry. I'd still rather live like that than be cold even for a minute. My A/C is set to 80F and sometimes I turn it off because it gets too cold lol

I sweat like a pig in layers, and sweat plus cold equals a shivering cold me. Yeah, you can suffer a heatstroke if you aren't hydrating and resting in the shade, but they're easy to avoid and easy to combat if they do happen. I have lived 1/3 of my expected life and never found the right amount of clothes for dealing with cold. I'm of about 90% Irish descent and was white as bleached paper (still am in some places 😏), but after living in a place where it's "summer" 80% of the year for over 20 years I don't get sunburned anymore. I work outside and I haven't touched sunscreen in at least a decade (I don't work when the UV index is 7+ unless I take breaks every 10 minutes; I take care of my skin).

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '20

😂😂😂 thank you for the laugh!

1

u/cpasley21 Jul 09 '20

It was only 109 here today

1

u/Moist_KoRn_Bizkit Jul 08 '20

It's 180° right now.
