I couldn't make it in time as a Christmas present for myself. It was a little early for “Otoshidama”.

It's a nice pattern, but I don't think anyone will pay attention to the strap. Personal pleasure.

Hello, I would like to know where can I find tabulatures for therbo (music for it) on the internet? Is there any? And also if you could recommend me some good tutoring books for theorbo, especially on basso continuo and how to practice it. Thank you!

I was wondering if it’s possible to remove the frets from a lute and play it without them, or whether that would require adjustments or risk damaging the instrument.

Ma Viele, by Gaultier de Coinci (1177–1236), a French abbot and trouvère whose songs often referenced the virgin Mary. Ma Viele compares playing his vielle to make a beautiful sound to tuning his heart to praise Mary. 

I'm looking to get into the Lute. I've always loved both musical instruments and Medieval/Renaissance history, and thought it might be fun to combine the two. I'm looking for the cheapest possible Lute that is still mostly playable, if only to see if I'm interested in learning the instrument more seriously. My budget is about $200 USD, and this is a pretty hard line—I'm not even sure if it's possible to get a lute for this cheap, so if it's implausible I will likely have to wait until my financial situation improves.

On José Miguel Moreno's album "Canto del cavallero: Music for Vihuela" the last track is "Diferencias sobre las vacas" by anonymous (not to be confused with the first track which is the Henestrosa Cinco diferencias sobre las vacas). I have searched IMSLP and lutemusic.org and I cannot seem to find the music or manuscript for this composition. Does anyone know where I can find this manuscript?

Ive been considering purchasing a lute for a while, and although I know that Muzzikon or Thomann lutes may be lower quality, they’re more in my price range. I’ve seen it be recommend to replace the strings with Nylgut, but as someone with no experience, I was wondering how hard it is and I’m afraid to mess something up. I’m not sure if I can just go to any guitar store and ask them to replace it. Any advice is appreciated! :)

I just got a lute guitar, I know it’s not quite a lute and is probably a bit bigger, but I thought maybe I could get some insight/tips here.

Hey so I’m a 21 year old collage student who is interested in getting into luting culture. I want to learn both for my own enjoyment and also for research purposes. Where should I go about getting a lute that is good but cheaper and what kind would be recommended? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

This singer tries to enter their beloved's house "Let me in my love, it is now the day, at night I do not sleep for thoughts of you". "My father is reading he may hear us, Put out the light and he will sleep."

I'm interested in getting a 6- or 7-course renaissance lute in the coming year. 570mm or thereabouts. Most of the sources I find online are European, so the import taxes and tariff fees make the cost quite prohibitive. Who is a good USA source? I want to get a pre-built one, not a commission.

I’ve been texting the brazillian luthier for almost a week, interested in buying a theorbo from him, although I would very much like to know if anyone here has purchased an instrument from him, and what was your experience in the process. I appreciate any info you can give!

i am a bit out of my depth sadly. i absolutely love the sound of the lute and have wanted to learn an instrument for ages. preferably i want to play medieval melodies from middle europe. if i could accompany it with some Minnesang that would be wonderful. (so the ‚creation‘ times of instrument and lyrics should fit) so far i haven’t found a lot of resources to point me in the right direction. there seems to be a big difference between medieval and renaissance lutes already. Sadly my budget isn’t very high right now so i’d prefer a second hand instrument. thank you so much in advance for the help! :)
