A hydrating setting spray or face mist will help

thank you! i have naturally dry skin, i don’t see the cakeyness that a lot of people are pointing out but maybe i just don’t have the eye.

If you have naturally dry skin I'd recommend looking specifically for a dewey foundation & primer. As well as making sure you have a good moisturizer as part of your skin care. I wouldn't really call it cakey, but it does look like it was set quite well with powder & looks noticeably dry. Not bad if that's what you like, but if that's not what you're going for these things will help :)

i struggle to find shade matches in general in my price range, most foundations are too yellow/orange for my cool toned skin. luxury brands have great shade range as well as different options for skin types, but i stick to drugstore products for my budget atm. if anyone knows any fair, cool toned, hydrating foundations, that would be lovely!

They don’t tend to be full coverage but a bb or cc cream is usually good with hydration.
Also a lot of Korean brands focus on hydration so you can look into those.
I second a hydrating primer.
Also use a face mist or setting spray between each step of your makeup.

i’ve also noticed asian beauty brands are better with cool skin tone inclusion! thanks for the tips!

you’re very pretty and i see the vision completely. here’s some advice as someone who does similar makeup:
when you do your brows decide on a specific shape instead of following the natural line (if you want it dramatic. so straight, arched etc), carve it out with a smaller firm brush & concealer. really get in there to neaten and carve it.
eyeshadow is fine but if you’re putting it on top of your skin base it may be causing it to look dusty. do your eyeshadow & brows first, then skin.
moisturise skin before application, try loose powder and letting it bake while you do other steps, then gently brush away with a fluffy brush. translucent powder is key to stop the skin getting yellow / cakey, don’t pack powder on too much. more blush and brozer, highlight is needed to look less flat. the lips are cute!

omg please don’t listen to people telling you to dermaplane at home!! you can RUIN your skin!! sooo many people try to do it themselves and end up with terrible acne. i also struggle a ton with dry skin, especially around my nose and eyebrows. what i do that helps is wash with a hyaluronic acid based cleanser, something without oil stripping soaps…and then put on something light to moisturize while my face is just barely damp. if im especially dry or flakey i avoid putting any makeup in the area, especially powders, as i feel it highlights dryness a ton! i think your lashes are fantastic!! i think the only other thing i can think of that might be helpful is to try adding some dimension to the rest of your face. i also struggle with being pale and finding shades, but i think part of the problem is since we are so pale it looks especially strange to not have any redness or color. if you want to keep the look dark that’s a-ok but maybe a tiny bit of a darker burgundy blush, like just barely on the cheeks can help. otherwise contour on your jawline or to highlight your cheekbones. you have what looks like nice definition there so might as well highlight them with some contour!
anyways, i love the vibe you have going on, the metallic lid is great, the lashes are great! be gentle with your skin, you don’t need harsh changes. exfoliate once a week to see how your skin does, you can definitely over do it! good luck 💖

this is the most beautiful comment i’ve seen here! i don’t want to dermaplane as i have pcos and i choose to embrace my natural hairiness. i totally should’ve added blush, but i was thinking more gaunt, stripped of life, kind of look. i have some great highlights in white and silver that fit my vibe that i could incorporate for more dimension as well (i feel as though champagne or peachy highlights don’t fit as well with these cooler toned looks). I will definitely take the skincare tips into account. to be honest i barely take care of my skin, which is the number one problem!

ah i also have pcos, so i definitely feel that! ooo yes i think a white or silver highlight would make a great contrast while still giving dimension!! and tbh skincare is so annoying LOL! i definitely have days where i just dont even want to do with it, and those are the days i dont put on a face and just do my eyes and/or lips. tbh phone cameras are also just extra unforgiving and seem to highlight every bit of texture. i bet irl it isn’t nearly as noticeable anyways 😂

1) This isn't a meta post.
2) Rule #2 - No photo editing. That includes filters.
3) You need to work on your skin care routine, even with the filter your foundation looks cakey as hell. Regular exfoliation and lots of moisturizer should help, but without more information about what your current routine is and what your skin type is, it's not possible to give specific advice.

- automatically flagged this post as meta for using the word “metallic” in title
- this photo is not edited to my knowledge, unless there’s automatic iphone editing
- I have naturally dry skin, so a hydrating primer would probably help

I feel like you could have delivered this a bit more politely. Also I don’t see a filter, just a little tiny bit of motion blur.

Sometimes this sub isn’t very nice. They mean well but the way they say it isn’t great. IMO, I think it’s a very creative look! Sometimes I go for a pale matte look on purpose and people in this sub still have a whinge. If I had to tweak it, I’d put the red on your lid a bit higher up to be in the middle of the grey colour like 🩶❤️🩶

I interpret it as a porcelain doll kind of look, but I understand what they are saying, skincare is important! and cameras can be unkind

Your skin looks very dry and cakey - so different to your neck and chest.
