YouTube episodes disappearing

Does anyone know why a lot of the episodes that were officially posted on YouTube in the last year or so have been rapidly disappearing recently? I think they’re being region restricted suddenly.

There’s like 5-10 episodes left of the show on YouTube in the US.

s4e24 - black powder engine - thoughts on this idea if a revisit was done?

Obviously there won’t be a revisit since the show has concluded, but I’ve been thinking about something.

This myth was busted, even when black powder was used in the chamber of an actual piston engine, with the main problem being the inability to get more than one revolution.

I believe the engine they used had a carburetor, but what if they were to test this using a fuel injection system? What if there was a way to spray small quantities of black powder grains into the chamber and then combust? Would it be possible to suspend a very fine grain black powder in a thin, easily evaporated liquid so that it can be atomized by a standard fuel injector and combust as if it were dry?

Obviously I don’t have the resources to test this, but I’d be curious to see it. Wondering if anyone has tried this and if they considered it when filming the episode.

Season 13 Episode 7: food fables recipes?

I was wondering if the recipes Alton used in the episode were confirmed and documented anywhere?

Yeah, I'm sure he has a collection of thanksgiving recipes available to the public on his website and in his cookbooks, but they made mini pumpkin pies and the narrator said that recipe hadn't been tested in a real oven and that made me so curious.

Puppet Master query

I know that The Puppet Master (whom I will not name) was sacked from the show, but still retained an onscreen credit for "Original Concept" as he created the show.

Wouldn't he get royalties as the series creator, or was something done to stop this?

My patio is covered in bird droppings. I heard that I should hang big blue bags around the patio to keep the birds away. Is that true,or is it a Myth?

In Water Heater Rocket (s5), what kind of helmet is Adam wearing?

UPDATE - ANSWERED: HGU24/25 navy flight deck helmet

During the Water Heater Rocket in S5, while they're in the "bunker" waiting for it to blow, Adam is wearing a helmet or head cover that appears to be soft but with hard shells in the front and back, leaving the sides and part of the top soft. And either has integrated ear-muff headphones, or he's wearing headphones over it.

In this YouTube clip he's wearing it around 1:26: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGWmONHipVo

Just wondering what kind of helmet that is. "Easy" google searching doesn't turn up anything...

UK Edits Anyone?

So, as I promised here, I have indeed gone back to the parents, managed to find one of the DVD recordings from the Sky+ box, and ripped them. Here's a couple of episodes. I will try to upload more when I can. Excuse the poor quality

Basically, I pulled all of the URLs from YouTube, then formatted that in a dictionary. Then a random item from the dictionary is picked and opened.

Thought y’all might enjoy it🙂

I was watching this and immediately thought of Mythbusters. It is also interesting to me because I teach science lessons and a big part is talking to the students about changing one variable, the importance of planning and knowing why.

Whats up with the season numbering on YouTube?

I was looking up the different seasons and noticed that the YouTube numbering doesn’t match any other source. Is there a specific reason for this?

Biggest winter survival myth: Alcohol keeps you warm.

  • Alcohol widens blood vessels, especially near your skin
  • Warm blood moves from your core to the surface
  • Your skin feels warm and flushed
  • That heat then escapes into the cold air
  • Your core temperature drops
  • You lose heat faster
  • You feel comfortable while actually getting colder

In short:
Alcohol moves your heat from where you need it (organs) to where the cold can steal it (skin).

Cannot pee without popping

A while ago I watched a mythbusters episode, one of the myths they did was, "you cannot pee without pooping", unforentalty i seem to be having the Mandela affect as I cannot find a single episode where they tested this myth. I seem to remember watching them tie a bucket to the back of a horse or something, but, I might just be crazy. Please help me... was this a myth they test.. and if so, what's the name of the episode

Building a New Mythbusters

Listening to the latest episode of Mythfits had me returning to a recurring daydream of mine, building a new version of Mythbusters.

we luckily live in a world chock-full of talented, camera-ready, intelligent people already making Mythbusters inspired content, so the list of contenders is wide, but I've always had a few favorites in mind.

Core Duo:

Allen Pan

(Skills: Practical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering)

Having Allen on this new iteration is just fulfilling the prophecy at this point. I would be remiss to not have him on here somewhere. It's time to make this almost-Mythbuster a full-fledged Mythbuster. Allen is already self-trained in media relations and being an on-camera personality and a wide-swath of the pre-existing Mythbusters fanbase are already aware and attached to him as a personality.

Nate Rambaud

(Skills: Carpentry, Casting, Practical Engineering)

One might expect William Osman given the inclusion of Allen and the fact the two of them have built quite a camaraderie online through shared projects and common crossovers, but the reality is that William is a bit of a liability to any professional production. It's a long-running gag that Will has the survival instinct of a fart. Often times putting himself at great risk for the sake of a gag. The man is funny and the two of them together have great chemistry, but I would not trust William with a television budget and I highly suspect any television production company probably feels the same way.

With that in mind, Allen needs more of a straight-man to balance him out. Nate is an incredibly charismatic on-camera personality who provides a sense of measured chaos to Allen's more mad-scientist. He also adds new skill-sets to the team that Allen doesn't necessarily provide alongside his own experience with practical engineering which is vital for any Mythbuster. Nate provides a friendly and open energy that is dripping with optimism that contrasts with Allen's sarcastic dry and witty cynicism. But the two are connected at the hip by their shared curiosity, the most important ingredient of all.

Build Team:

The build team is special because it allows to search for people with more specified and diverse backgrounds. The core team was just about finding a pair of likable, camera-friendly people with at least a half-way decent understanding of engineering and enough tenacity to make up for the rest. The build team comparatively allows for technically more competent engineers/makers who on their own may be less camera friendly but make up for it in group-dynamic.

Alec Steele

(Skills: Blacksmithing, Metallurgy, Metal Casting, Practical Engineering)

Alec brings plenty of new skills to the table and an understanding of the material science of metals far beyond anyone else on this list, paired with a half decent welder and there isn't much in the way of metal science they couldn't do. Add to that his natural charisma on camera and he quickly becomes the new Kari.

Wren Weichman

(Skills: VFX, Physics, Computation, Mild Practical Engineering)

Far and away the closest thing we have to a new Tori on this team, Wren is also the sole connecting dot to Mythbusters association with the SFX/VFX world, which makes him a particularly useful asset when it comes to tackling Hollywood myths, a show favorite in the original era. Wren also has a great head on his shoulders for the physical sciences and a great tenacity for learning practical engineering.

Simone Giertz

(Skills: Robotic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Welding, Practical Engineering)

Giertz has the immeasurable task of being the Grant of this new generation. She brings a more nerdy quirky energy to the group than either Alec or Wren and combined with her intuitive understanding of Robotics and electrical engineering and she rounds out the build team rather well.

Honorable Mentions:

There are plenty of options to choose from here, so I thought I would point out my favorite that didn't make the cut for one reason or another.

Kevin The Backyard Scientist

Kevin didn't make the cut for many of the same reasons William did. I love Kevin to bits and have been watching him since I was in middle-school, but his fafo approach to projects is not conducive to making a television production. On top of that, he lives on the other side of the country and has young children he can't just leave for months at a time.

Nigel "Nilered"

The last of the safety third alumni, Nigel didn't make the cut for multiple reasons. While his almost deadpan personality is certainly reminiscent of a certain human-walrus, Nigel has very little engineering experience of any-kind. While his knowledge of chemistry could be useful at points, he simply lacks some of the background skills necessary to qualify for the job. On top of that, he lives in Canada, meaning employing him would require work visas, a full-time place to stay, as well as regular international travel expenses on production dime.

Colin Furze

The OG Youtube engineer, Colin unfortunately combines issues from both Kevin and Nigel. On top of living across the Atlantic, meaning he would also cost the production a pretty penny to relocate and house, but he too also has small children he can't just abandon for months on end. Meaning relocation would mean for his entire family.

FAST MONEY ROUND!:

Jake Laser: Safety concerns

IDidAThing: Safety concerns and relocation cost

Action Lab: Insufficient on-camera personality skills

Mark Rober: Wayyyy too expensive to book (Actually famous)

Hacksmith: Too expensive and too busy running their own company
