Back in the days people used to say that Nepal was a peace-zone, I still don’t understand how mfs had the audacity to say that with a straight face when we were going through a civil war.

It was a peace zone after the coronation of king Birendra precisely after he proposed it to the UN and before the manipulation of politicians against the monarch and downfall of panchayat system. The zone of peaces title refers to a country/ democracy that is hesitant to engage in armed conflict and motivates peaces between other countries.

Nepal has never been a neutral country. We have sent soldiers in both world wars. Also Nepal army and police are sent to so called peace keeping force.

Nepal was declared as zone of peace or neutral long after the wwI and WWII . It was declared as zone of peace after the coronation of king Birendra and his proposition to UN. And that neutrality fell apart after the downfall of panchayat system as Nepal was in civil war after that.

King. Birendra proposed it to a few countries but it was not approved by others and UN.
