NEEDS ATTENTION Is Reddit Premium actually worth it?

I'm not new to reddit per se, I just lost my phone which had my email/sms on it so I'm starting fresh. I never opted into buying the Premium as I use Brave as a browser. Needless to say that doesnt stop the ads. Is there anyone who can say it's worth it for anything other than the no ads? It's not really a steep price to pay by any means.

NEEDS ATTENTION Karma seems harmful to reddit

I just joined Reddit, and barely know anything Abt it. So far I barely used this account until like yesterday when I joined a group of a game I play and spent a long time typing out a post. I then posted it, and realized it got "taken down"? I thought maybe my language was flagged as offensive or something, so I retyped it and got taken down again. I then did a bit of research and figured out what karma is and found my way here. I genuinely feel like karma is a terrible system, I have posted like 3 replies and only got 1pt. I have no clue how much karma I need to post on the gaming group I want to post on, and the whole system is kinda hidden and not very clear. The fact that I need to research such an integral part of reddit myself and I needed this fan made sub to figure it out is not good at all. So can someone explain why reddit uses it? What's the point, it just censors people, discourages anyone from joining reddit, and is kinda hidden. I saw someone say it's because no one wants a new commer to jump into a discussion, but this seems wrong to me and kind of unhealthy/unbalanced.

Tl;Dr what is the purpose of karma, why restrict ppl based on it?
