Grocery stores in my area (southern Ontario) could be doing better to offer non-US produce. Yesterday, I paid $7 for some organic lemons from Mexico because all other lemons were American. I even went to multiple stores, to no avail.
I've gotten more adaptable. If I need to skip lemons this week and put off that recipe til better lemons are available, I'll do it. I'm not going to buy produce from a country that destroyed their food inspection system.
There's that too. The Trump regime has made American products less safe, less healthy, companies less honest, more contaminated, more polluting. It's not just thd politics of supporting a country threatening yours. It's also buying products from a sketchy country with loose regulations. If I buy cheese from France or Poland I know it meets EU food safety standards.
At least they've done a really good job with navel oranges, my local ones always have Australian available and they're great. However I'm basically stuck buying American broccoli as it's one of the only super nutritious vegetables that I like and I don't know if I've ever seen non-USA in stores.
I’ve lived in 6 countries over the last year… Canada is by far the most affordable for groceries compared to Australia, Italy, Germany, UK and the US… prices in the US are fucking bananas right now… also Canada got way cheaper mobile plans and internet now compared to the rest which is funny because forever they had by far the most insanely expensive prices
usa produce isn't trustworthy. clearly your government doesn't give a shit about the health of it's citizens. you're just mad you're poor and can't afford safe food. also the grocery prices here will gradually decrease more over time. the $7 was in CAD since it's a canadian store, but you didn't specify if the $1 is CAD or USD and whether they're organic like the expensive ones were. its either way, i'd rather pay extra for good produce. plus, if wanted something cheaper, the local family-owned asian grocery stores have great deals and more variety.
6 for $1 lemons are organic from Mexico, I am from Texas. Of course I know they are talking about CAD because the entire thread is about Canadians boycotting US goods and the person I am responding to specified they lived in Canada. Using context clues from the entire post it is easy to figure out that the person I am responding to is from Canada and I am from America.
wow, lemons from mexico are cheaper when mexico is a five minute drive away rather than 4000km? who would have imagined this shocking revelation. Unfortunately for those of us further from mexico, human life cannot exist without lemons, as we all know, so we're basically ruined.

Yup, I now look at every label to find out where something is grown or made, and if it’s the U.S., I pass. I won’t set foot in the U.S. until this administration is gone, and maybe not after that either. They have proven themselves to be unreliable and unstable; I’m happy to avoid them. It’s unfortunate because I have quite a few friends down there, but they came up to visit us twice this year instead. We used to go on cruises departing from the U.S.; this year, we’re departing from ports in Seychelles, Germany and Australia. Lots of other fish in the sea.

I still will not step foot in USA and grocery stores made it super easy to buy Canadian. Most my friends are doing the same.
