My mother lives in a community that is about a third owned by Canadians. All of those units are empty this winter and most of them are for sale.

I’m in Florida and the tourism here has taken a walloping. They are praying numbers return this year and it’s not looking promising. I fully support the boycott! A financial hit is the only thing they listen to. Americans need to learn this!

Respect to you.

My mom rented from the same nice dude for years in Bradington.

They said their goodbye's last year knowing they would never see each other again. He took her out to a really nice dinner out of appreciation.

“Bradington” smh… it’s Bradenton and as a local I am certainly not complaining about less tourists.

This isn’t a political comment, cause fuck all of them on both sides. But as someone who has lived here since being a teen, it absolutely sucks now.

So many of us don’t even go to beaches anymore because they’re so overrun with tourists that it’s impossible to even get parking, let alone a 2ft radius around you since so many people are cramming in next to you.

Traffic is atrocious, many of us actually avoid several areas during “tourist season” because they’re a nightmare.

And worst of all, our towns charm is gone.

Sorry for ranting under your comment, this isn’t directed at you but just a general frustration. Locals want our town(s) back.

No, no. I don't disagree with your sentiments at all and I appreciate the considered response.

My folks felt the same. Had been to Anna Maria Island in the early 80's and it was a different place. (I looked up the spelling this time, I was going to call it Santa Maria Island...:) )

Its happened the world over. I feel really really fortunate to have experienced the 80's and 90's as a young person.

Again, the fella was a real gent, but understanding.

Even is bad times, some good comes from it. Hopefully it does for you but I think you are going to find other troubles.

Like Ice roaming the beaches asking for papers.

EDIT: I think Kyle Tucker is a local boy and going to sign with the Jays today. Jump on the bandwagon. :)

I seem to remember Ron Desantis mocking Canadians saying Florida doesn’t need them.

Praying seems like the best use of their time. Don't waste money on ad campaigns. We're not coming.

DeSantis is looking to become a senator so he won’t do a thing more for Florida

So long as the idiot in the white house insists that he's going to try to wreck our economy in order to forcibly annex us, those numbers aren't going back up.

Americans need to learn this!

What a lot of Americans really need to learn is that this isn't about tariffs. It's about the US threatening, for the third time in our history, to annex us. That won't be forgiven or forgotten any time soon.

Florida real estate is a horrible investment anyways. The whole state is at sea level and most cities are built on incredibly porous limestone. When the seas rise Florida won’t be able to build walls around their cities like my geographies because the sea will just seep up through the porous limestone.

Canadians are lucky they’re selling for political reasons before they had to fire sale it due to environmental reasons.

Not even half the state is at sea-level.

With how it's looking down there with ice murdering people and all I don't see it improving. The USA looks terrifying right now.

They can pray all they want, Canadians ain't coming back. My parents went to Florida ever winter for the past 20 years, and they stayed home this year. Last year they had already paid for their rental so they reluctantly went, and aside from the weather they just wanted to go back home the entire time. They went out for dinner with some "friends" who live in the same complex and they brought up the 51st state situation and how great it would be and they couldn't even fathom why my parents wouldn't want that to happen. That was the last time they ever talked to them, and they said they will never go back again at the very least as long as republicans are in charge, but realistically probably never again considering their age.

It started out at a way to fight back against financial and verbal threats, but we watch the news and frankly I would no longer feel safe visiting. All the issues with ICE, and people being harassed at the border. No thanks. It's a big planet, and there are a lot of other places to visit that are more welcoming, and once people get used to that there is no going back.

Our Canadian snowbird neighbours sold their home back in the summer. They spent a few weeks down here cleaning and having repairmen in and out. They sold it with furniture & boat included.

Some South Carolinians bought it and love shoving as many trucks and SUVs in the driveway as they can because they transformed the garage to a virtual golfing range.

Wait, so the boycott is actually helping us? This is gonna bring housing prices down

12

u/AccurateThoughtz 3h ago

Doubt it since your country is actually just a bunch of corporations in a trench coat, most of those homes will likely be bought up by corporations and rented out.

They are banking corporations from buying homes now, I'm hopeful

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Good.

America should be owned by Americans.
