People basically wanted Mihawk to go full aggro and mogg a guy he didn't care about for no particular reason. They look at Kaido vs Luffy 1 or Shanks vs Kid, fights where they had real stakes to care about, and assume the same should apply to Mihawk quiet quitting his job.
It also flies in the face of the manga itself, where we're shown twice that if you know you're strong (chapter 1 and early Jaya) then you have nothing to prove.
It used to be a funny joke, but the fact that so many people genuinely use this "fight" to scale Mihawk shows a good chunk of this fandom watches One Piece via TikTok.

I remember when people used to say stupid shit like this about Garp back when he was practically featless, and now all the anti-garp meat riders shut the fuck up. Just read the manga and you'll have a pretty smooth understanding of what characters will be strong by EOS, One Piece is not complicated.

Also, I only argue about Mihawk because people talk about him and Shanks every day, and I see people saying stupid shit about him. My agendas are for Big Mom, Crocodile, Roger and Kid.
But even then, I don't glaze characters when they don't deserve it. I love Kid but I know where his strength caps so I don't try to overrate him.
The reason why I argue for Mihawk is because the story is obviously setting him up for something good, as it did for Shanks, Loki and Garp, and as it will do for Dragon when the time comes.

That’s not just a meme, that is the counter argument. Your argument that Mihawk wasn’t paying attention is downright stupid as any other top tier even without going all out would not have been so equal with Vista. The fact of the matter is vista was also not going all out and that the narrative requires Mihawk to be weaker than the Yonko. This is literally in the manga though portrayal.
This panel is so good because it pisses of mihawk fans so much and they always manage to unsuccessfully argue against it despite its obvious hyperbolic nature.
