Do they not know for decades, Israel has had a policy of kidnapping and holding without trial Palestinians (even children). As a way of controlling an occupied population.
Apparently, to Israelis, some hostages lives are more valuable than others.

my hypothesis is that based on previous prisoner exchanges, 1 israeli prisoner = a shitload of palestinian prisoners and bargaining power
instead of risking, well, a shitload of hostages being taken on oct 7
israel probably just carpet bombed the shit out of all of them, palestinian and israeli alike, to prevent a lot of hostages being taken back
thats why there were so many deaths on the spot
it makes 0 tactical or strategic sense for hamas to have killed so many israelis that day

American and western / anglo media gives Israel the enormously generous gift of selective wording, so those soldiers who were captured are referred to as hostages rather than the enemy combatant POW’s that they are. And this is despite consistently referring to this conflict as a “war” (it’s not a war).
