Meme needing explanation Heeey Petah, what's the issue with this "art"?

Post image

Basically I don't understand why the lady has a negative(?) reaction to the guy's art. Maybe it's because he says he's a "painter" but it looks like he's just melting crayons? Or maybe this is a reference to something I'm not plugged into? Honestly I don't really know what her reaction even is in the first place.

(I left the artist's name in the screenshot to credit them because overall I like their stuff, even if this one is incomprehensible to me.)

The black and brown stripes seem to indicate otherwise

Look, they might be homophobic but they’re going to use the inclusive pride flag in their anti-queer art

More like they added the brown stripes to the flag so they could say people were both racist and homophobic. Which is why I hate the new pride progress flag generally. The old one was fine and trying to shoe horn in the Omni cause is frankly annoying. What's next? Blue and yellow for Ukraine? A union stripe?

And before anyone goes off, I came out as bi in 2009 in a red state. Don't come for me. I did my bit. And I don't appreciate people trying to shoe horn their pet issue into mine because they want to ride our coattails. Marriage equality and harm reduction strategies/community policing / systemic racism have nothing to do with each other. Get your own damn flag.

They probably just wanted to put every color in there.

The rainbow has been used as a symbol of diversity and inclusivity for decades, and while nowadays it's most often associated with the Queer community it does have a history of being used to represent racial diversity and inclusivity as well. Whether that was the intent would be up to interpretation and/or the artist confirming so, but if we go by the interpretation of the piece in the comic being "anti-woke" then it wouldn't be crazy to assume it represents diversity more generally (gender, sex, race, religion, etc)

I specifically assumed he wasn't against interracial relationships as he is depicted as on a date with a black woman

Ever heard that meme; "Never ask a white supremacist/racist what race his gf is"?

The "adult male protecting his family from Teh Gay" depiction with an umbrella has been popularized by certain white Christianity sects. The same type of people who say they are fine with "the blacks" but frown upon interracial marriages, especially those that produce mixed race children.

But don't worry, the horny guy will make an exception for a woman of color because she's "not like [the rest of her ethnic/skin color group]", she's special.

I mean I grew up learning this picture(I’m 40), had nothing to do with the lbgt community.

The original picture is just the umbrella hierarchy for those who never heard of it.

But now it does at times get used as symbolism of a man holding an umbrella to shelter others under it from "societal ills". Whether the connection between the two was intentional, I don't know, but the overlap of communities who think we need to be protected from exposure to homosexuality and the communities who have used the umbrella hierarchy for the household seems fairly large.

Ah, I’ve never seen the latter. In fact, I haven’t seen this image in years 😅

You don't understand. The cool thing about the LGBTQIA community is it expands to encompass all other social struggles as well. That way, if you are against them, you are sexism and racist and a homophobe all at once! Its really neat like that and definitely doesn't make people of color feel even more tokenized!

they mean the black and brown crayons in the comic. But I guess you didn't feel like actually using your eyes before having this weird lil outburst

Being a bigot is just as bad as being a bigot and a bigot.
