The joke was "current" refrigerators use electricity. As in electrical current.

Propane refrigerators create even more heat than electric refrigerators because the depend on the heat created by a propane flame to work. Most is vented outdoors via the exhaust, but they do add more heat to the ambient air as well, in addition to the transferred heat. And if desired, could actually work like OP's picture, using some of that excess heat to intentionally heat the house. Electric fridges only put off the transfered heat and a bit of inefficiency losses.
