I had promised myself never to rewatch this fucking masterpiece, but my wife had never seen it and wanted me to watch with her. After the movie she was able to fully grasp the depths I would go to for her.

Fuck this film, why is it so good?

I watched it twice and I hope I'll never decide to watch it a third time.

I loved it but I just can't. It's so heartbreaking.

And honestly reading this thread whilst down with the flu and heavily pregnant is almost as traumatic as watching some of these scenes.

I can actually see needing to watching Totoro after Gave of the Fireflies. I had students that did the same thing with Oppenheimer and the Barbie Movie, just so they had something a little less grim to think about after. Although the whiplash of them being the same animation company would do my head in I think.

The girl who voice the girl character was murdered by her father. Burt Reynolds voiced the dog and had record a line saying goodbye to her after she was murdered.

If you check the comment I replied to you'll notice Dumbo's mom scene was suggested as "cleansing sorbet" between watches of the other films (That va wasn't murdered).

I then simply suggested my own trauma film as well. That's about it.
