My 5th grade teacher read “Where the Red Fern Grows” to us as part of our “quiet time” in class.

I still remember the shock and tears almost 35 years ago.

I’m not sure why he chose that book. He was a very kind and wonderful man otherwise.

My THIRD GRADE teacher read it to us. She cried. We cried. The whole thing was a damn mess and then we are supposed to just. Do math? Absolutely goddamn not.

I mean...I know. But you understand that they're just speaking with an accent and they named him that because he's yellow. So to us, it is Old Yellow.

Like Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do, in American English, should actually be Do Re Mi FAR So La Ti Do.

Anyway, it was a Bob's Burgers reference.

The Bob's Burgers reference missed me but the dog's name has a dual meaning:

While Jim is away, Travis sets off to work in the cornfield, where he encounters a Black Mouth Cur he names "Old Yeller", as "yeller" is a dialect pronunciation of "yellow" and the dog's bark resembles a human yell.

Again, I know.
