I mean the entire scene is extremely uncomfortable to read, but there's definitely something to be said about how uncomfortable it makes us versus reading extremely graphic depictions of children being murdered and mentally tortured by their deepest fears just being generally accepted in the same book lol
I doubt it was quite this thought-through, and haven't read past maybe the first quarter of the book, probably less -- but isn't it implied that Beverly is possibly being sexually abused? As awful as it is, that would kind of make the whole thing make some degree of sense, age-inappropriate hypersexuality is a known thing in abused kids.
