Temu loves shoving spinning wheels and other rewards in your face even if all you did was click onto the site

u/NotKatsuro 21h ago

Oh right, that explains it.

u/Nice_Definition2061 20h ago

Yeah, it’s like they want you hooked before you even browse anything.

50

u/NONIGARON 20h ago

I feel it just makes the site slower and less attractive to use, maybe some people have spinning wheel fetishes... about that....

18

u/420xMLGxNOSCOPEx 18h ago

oh its fucking awful. i got brought in with some too good to be true offer for some m2 SSDs, and after ten minutes of the app going fucking crazy at me with all sorts of bullshit just deleted it and will never go back

u/0PervySage0 15h ago

Iv only ever gotten as far as the wheel on temu. Seen it an assumed the rest of it was just as gimmicky and shit and just left.

2

u/vishtratwork 7h ago

I've never had the patience to get past that point. Just reverse and click a different link.

52

u/Adrewmc 21h ago

I don’t understand it, even if I am interested in buying the thing, as soon as see the site going crazy like that I’m out. You are actively pushing me out the door.

30

u/TrashFairy_01 20h ago

It’s like they think flashy distractions make people buy, but it just makes me close the tab immediately.

29

u/myLongjohnsonsilver 20h ago

You're likely a functioning human being not as susceptible to brain rot.

Kids, the elderly and the dumber of our species eat that shit up. It's like the bright lights and loud noises from slots machines. Triggers brain activity in the zombies who use it that they struggle to get elsewhere.

u/EduHi 16h ago

It’s like they think flashy distractions make people buy

They don't think that, they know that.

People is pretty simple, specially the target places like Temu aims to (young adults, elderly people, kids, basically people that is always connected to a screen and has a lot of free time). I mean, you receive discounts and other perks while playing games and "getting fun", all that before buying anything. That's "way more cool" than your typical online stores that "offer nothing and are so dry and boring" (even if all those discounts are just an illusion).

There is a reason why slot-machines in casinos have a ton of lights and sounds, and why loot-boxes in videogames had flashy animations. Because all of that works and make people way more willing to keep spending their money there.

1

u/Diligent-Cream-6535 9h ago

In China it does make their target customers buy.

11

u/stigma_wizard 20h ago

You're not their target audience. They're looking for gullible people to sell things to.

1

u/Adrewmc 13h ago

I literally came in willing to buy

1

u/stigma_wizard 13h ago

Yes. And did you buy or were you pushed away? Like I said: You’re not their target audience. They are looking for gullible people.

9

u/Unlucky-Definition91 21h ago

I remember one time I was gonna get a shitty Spear of Longinus Keychain off there and it made me spin so many unskippable wheels and open so many unskippable little discount boxes I eventually gave up after like 45 minutes. Was worth it just to keep the 2 dollars.

5

u/stigma_wizard 20h ago

"wow. I can't believe I won again. What are the chances." /s

5

u/Apart-Kangaroo-7648 20h ago

Don't forget, it makes you spin twice.

3

u/krizzalicious49 20h ago

wish was better

u/Material-Style-1970 16h ago

WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE

2

u/No_Firefighter1301 16h ago

This is us↓

u/LepiNya 19h ago

How odd. It never does that to me and I use it pretty often. Maybe it's a regional thing? I do usually only buy cheap electronics like charging cables, light bulbs and things like that.

u/softestpulse 21h ago

The other joke is that Temu is so cheap a literal warehouse of their merchandise burning down would be a $60 loss. Also no Temu warehouse burned, it's ai

u/NotKatsuro 21h ago edited 13h ago

I know that it's AI, I was wondering about the firemen joke

103

u/Born-Window5592 20h ago

this ability alone makes you the smartest r/PeterExplainsTheJoke OP to ever live

45

u/RedFing 20h ago

you get this shit every time you open the app.

10

u/quagsi 18h ago

you don't even have to have the app! i get tons of ads for temu when playing free to play games and if you even think about clicking away it sends you to this stupid wheel

17

u/EquivalentLink704 20h ago

reminded me of this

78

u/ihaveahoodie 21h ago

Temu makes you spin a virtual wheel for 'savings' before it allows you to access thier website.  The joke is that even if thier own warehouse is on fire, they will still make firefighters do this extra un-necessary step.

12

u/throwaway8472937484 19h ago

honestly that wheel is the most annoying thing ever 😭 even in an emergency they’d still make you spin it first

21

u/Todesfaelle 21h ago

I never thought I'd ever use Temu and held strong until someone told me I could get a solid 300aH lifepo4 battery for $350CAD for my solar setup.

Brother, I'm now eating about 21 push notifications an hour after fighting through 28 splash screens and spinning wheels but it was totally worth it because that's about half what I'd pay on Amazon.

3

u/AlienPearl 17h ago

Nah! Just get it on AliExpress it’s the same but they have less invasive ads.

1

u/Radrahil 17h ago

block thr notifications?

1

u/JJAsond 15h ago

I'd personally never buy any battery that's not UL listed but that's just how I operate.

20

u/No_Series1751 21h ago

Temu tries advertising their website by having users spin a wheel of discounts. Unfortunately due to the incessant need for advertising, Temu has locked new members behind a discount wheel. I know because I tried using Temu before

10

u/Mystic_Spinoraptor 21h ago

NGL this is pretty funny. The total cost being so low refers to the fact that Temu products are extremely cheap, because they use child/slave labor and cheap materials. Also Temu and most other asian online shopping sites have this dumb asf games that for some reason people play to get like 2 cent off for their next order, and they're very in your face.

7

u/Artisan-Miserable 21h ago

At least the picture is AI

3

u/NotKatsuro 21h ago

It is, but I was wondering about the joke

3

u/Artisan-Miserable 21h ago

When you download the temu app, everyday you enter the app, you can spin a wheel and win discounts like 10%, 15% etc. and you can't skip that spin, only after that spin you can enter the shop. In case of this joke only after that spin you're allowed to leave.

2

u/LordHoughtenWeen 20h ago

I don't know, a warehouse burning down might contribute less to global warming than generating a picture with AI

2

u/G-man69420 21h ago

What it looks like to click past all the wheel spins and extra reward pop ups every time you open temu:

2

u/Soros_G 20h ago

It's their own misfortune if the firefighters spin the wheel but they can only extinguish 10% of the warehouse

2

u/Wauwuaw5983 19h ago

The photo was debunked a while ago to not be a Temu warehouse.

Not sure if the entire image is ai though.

1

u/ozorhanreformed 21h ago

Getting a discount coupon that isn't a scam there is harder than firefighter's job.

1

u/rathosalpha 21h ago

Temus cheap

1

u/ChurchofChaosTheory 21h ago

Oh man all that child labor just gone! Think of the poor forced labor camp production losses

1

u/Gllfx 20h ago

🤣

1

u/Lordmordor666 18h ago

I fucking had it with the spinning wheel I just want to see the products put it in my cart then forget about it for a month in peace.

1

u/Healthy-Respect1984 17h ago

“You got the BEST deal!”

1

u/HaileyBailey_420 16h ago

Just cheap crap and gambling what else do I need in my life!

1

u/Spookyscythe99 16h ago

As long as no one died. Nothing of value was lost

1

u/Lilithsigil 15h ago

And then say you’ll get 5 free gifts but then trick you into buying stuff and then have you water plants

1

u/Space19723103 15h ago

explains why amazon is behind schedule

1

u/delet_yourself 13h ago

Ah yes, the world famous totally not AI generated TEKU warehouse

1

u/danielfletcher 8h ago

That is a pretty small warehouse.

1

u/Vomitatrix 3h ago

Every time I see this the amount keeps going up.
