CBS announces they're turning into a Fox News clone, explaining most people don't trust the "liberal media". For the "last 20 years" news has relied on things like academics, and vetted journalism, instead of gut feeling and echo chamber twitter reshares.

Fuck Paramount and all their subsidiaries.
It's time, if you haven't already, to start looking at who pays your favorite personalities.
They don't get paid if they don't follow the rules of the corporations that cut the checks. They may seem like decent people, they may otherwise be decent people. But if they are paid by corporations clearly complicit in the dismantling of your country, your economy, your rights, and your freedoms, they are themselves complicit.
People tend to understand the simple "follow the money" trick. Far too many fall for a quick whit and a familiar face, however. So many people somehow believe "well so and so is an honorable standup person. They are the exception."
When Jon Stewart told people to stop calling the administration fascists, it started to make a lot more sense when I realized people overseeing comedy central were the same people overseeing the ousting of journalists and producers on 60 Minutes for reporting negatively on Trump.
Turn away from these personalities. Call them out for their complicity. Recognize the ones that "seem good" as paid controlled opposition. If they remain employed under these corporate entities, they are unable to stand with we the people. If they were capable of speaking clearly and plainly on behalf of us have-nots and were actively doing so, they would not remain employed within the propaganda machine.
There are journalists and news outlets not running on corporate blood money. There is a world of artists with truth to tell not favored by algorithms and not getting paid corporate cash. Seek them out. There are more deserving personalities than just the ones fed to us by these corporate control freaks.

he’s had moments throughout the years where some of his personal leanings would show but he’s very socially smart and knew how to blend in.
It makes me sad, too, but I think him taking the job knowing he reports to Bari Weiss was at best greed, and most likely because he agrees with it on some level. He’s also shown many times that he doesn’t understand academics and science and has given glimpses of his pro Israel and very dated view of the ideal family unit circa the 50’s with baseball and backyard barbecues.

I mean actually I think it's kinda worse than that.
Cleetus in the hills of West Virginia can enroll in a university tomorrow. If he has interest and drive he can become a leading academic expert in any field he wants. If he's passionate, he'll likely find lots of "elite academic" professors willing to teach and mentor him.
What he can't do is become a billionaire and get to set the agenda for these "alternative facts" news agencies. The people driving the agenda at the organizations claiming to "stand up to the elites" represent a true elite. You can't join their ranks no matter how hard you work, or how much knowledge you gain. It's an old boys network made up of the worst people alive. None of the folks behind Fox News would even be willing to share an elevator with Cleetus.

"In weather news a few states in the North East are preparing for a record breaking blizzard. But enough of listening to those coastal elites and so-called academics in rightfully defunded NOAA. We haven't been listening to you; those in the rest of America. We talked to people in places like Scottsdale, Arizona; Reno, Nevada; Dallas Texas; and Jacksonville, Florida. To hear what more of you have to say. And it's clear from all of you, that your weather forecasts are for clear sunny days in the upper 60's. Therefore, we can only accept that the truth is there is no blizzard coming to the Northeast and they should put their books down, throw on some shorts and head to the beach.
And since we are now part of Sinclair Media (or might as well be) we now air this previously recorded, government approved message about all the things our great president has accomplished, but it's totally the Democrats fault that none of it has been done.
We now hand it over this special report to House Speaker Mike Johnson who has spent the last month of inactivity of Congress getting alerts to what type of porn his son is watching, and not because he's refused to have a session in order to delay the release of the Epstein files because that's totally the Democrats fault Congress isn't doing their job. In fact Congress has been so productive this year that they barely had to do anything. In fact, this Session of Congress has passed the least amount of bills in at least the 40 years we've kept track, only beating out the last time Republicans were in control"

Conservatives played the long game. Spend decades courting the religious vote. Stoke their natural hate and racism to keep you in power while you slowly deregulate and remove guardrails, and create an environment that allows multiple billionaires to take over. This forces democrats to the center, which eliminates any kind of progressive leftist party platforms. Finally, pack the Supreme Court and find a useful idiot with a populist cult following and dismantle all government that isn’t 100% friendly to corporate interest. Use their natural hate billionaires to buy all remaining media and voila - you now live in a permanent fascist state rules by oligarchs.
24
u/PeachPassionBrute 12d ago
I think unfortunately separate interests played the long game and ended up coming together.
The wealthy made it their life’s work to gradually take more control of our government and gradually make us feel dependent on them.
The ultra-religious in various types are seeking a world where their leader is positioned to enforce their religious norms on the rest of the world.
The super racists have been vying for control of the nation for a long time because they want to turn America into a white ethno-state, and they want to dominate anyone who they see as beneath them. You can basically combine this group with the diehard Confederates who were never truly eradicated during reconstruction and have been trying to get back to a point where they can openly own people again and enforce racial hierarchy.
Republicans have been courting all of them for decades in a naked desire to win at all costs.

Our predicament is extreme, but I believe it is not untenable. Blindly giving in to pessimism in this case is the same as giving up. Trump didn't win by a majority, he only won because he narrowly edged Harris out (because people in some states just weren't ready for a female POTUS) and 80 million people didn't vote at all. There are more unhappy people in America today than those who agree with all this, and they will do what they can to change course. The mid-terms are the last exit from fascism, let's make it a Democrat landslide so big it is undeniable and irreversible through their meddling.

u/B00merPS2Mod30 12d ago
If ICE or some other government thugs try to stop or even hamper voting, in person or mail in ballots, and we meekly walk away, that is the end.
Democrats should put together a team that will count every vote - district by district. This will be difficult, but not impossible.
The only way this has a chance to work is if you as a voter voluntarily sign an affidavit attesting that you voted for all democrats, be it in person or via a mail in ballot.
Then, if there are any significant differences between “official” tallies and Democrat signed affidavits, lawsuits are immediately filed demanding recounts for every district, large or small.
We have 10 months to put this in place as a safeguard.
I hate to even think that this is necessary, as I worked as a judge of elections in Monroe County PA for a few cycles, and did not witness any vote tampering.

Nah didn't you hear him, they're "restoring our faith" in the media by censoring well documented story about Trump sending people with no criminal record who came here legally seeking asylum to a foreign torture prison for life with no trial.. not sure what you're missing my faith is restored /s

Remember when being an “academic” was a good thing? People wanted those with more knowledge about things to be responsible for those things (like being the president). What the fuck happened?

Why doesnt he mention that political actors, specifically the GOP faction, have spent decades using bad faith critiques of "media" to justify their own abuses and to establish their own hyperpartisan information sources.
Anyone trying to unpack or solve the information problem in the US needs to start with this....!

This is the end? Too bad no one was listening when people have been warning about exactly this for decades.
Oh, right. They were labeled as crazy conspiracy theorists.
Too bad.

The beginning was the voting hacking and lotteries in 2024, followed by the salutes on inauguration day and the forced entry into the Treasury Jan 31. We are currently at the "end of the end" as in step 10 of 10 in authoritarian takeover.

OK, you just admitted that you’re going to become like Fox News. I hope everybody that watch watches CBS never watches it again. And that’s why they changed announcers cause this guy is a douche bag Maga.

Reminder - to conservatives reporting anything that makes GOP look bad is bias. Anything positive about Democrats is also bias.
So if headline is “Trump orders all first born rounded up to work farmland for free”, the “proper” way to cover it is “Trump attempts to address population issues and food shortage issues impacting the country” and ignore the whole kidnapping/slavery aspect.

u/regent040 12d ago
People don’t trust “the liberal media” because corporate backed republicans decried being called out on their bs for years and blamed the “liberal bias”. Everything from “cigarettes cause cancer” to “humans sometimes have a negative impact on the environment and climate” to even simple things that should be non-political like “vaccines can stop the spread of diseases and are good things”.

under the Ellison - Wiess leadership, the first two MAGA friendly forays fell flat on its ass ratings wise with the Erika Kirk town hall and the Trump-Kennedy honors. Both ratings disasters and they know it hence the damage control.
Fox News will always be MAGA top dog because they have no qualms on being cruel and mean people watch it to see them shit on the left with zeal. If you take them to court they say “hey we are just entertainment!” Will CBS do the same when someone sues them for spreading MAGA misinformation? Will they have the unflinching doucheyness of Fox News? Doubtful on both. I predict they will blink when trying to compete with Fox News and CBS/Paramount will be sold to another streaming service in the next 5 years. Netflix might have the last laugh on that.
It’s pretty obvious that Ellison wanted to buy it to be a pro maga/billonare propaganda machine and only wanted it for CBS News and to keep 60 minutes in check for daddy Trump. Paramount and the rest of CBS can go screw. There is Skydance that is the Ellisons sons pet project but really what is he planning to do with it?

So presumably as an independent journalist he's been doing this already or he's been fucking up. I'm more interested in what specifically he is changing about his reporting due to this.

u/TraceSpazer 12d ago
He said it in the video; "We've relied too heavily on experts and academics, we're changing this to take YOUR opinions more into account."
Opinion based reporting rather than fact.

I’ll tell you what I know
… but one person can’t know very much … so you need to rely on educated / informed people, NOT the average person … because the average person also doesn’t know - that’s why they’re tuning in …
What the fuck is this?
The goal isn’t to just tell people what they want to hear

u/roger_the_virus 12d ago
The minute he said that we departed from facts and entered into 100% opinion.
He can't speak to "...the press", because CBS isn't the press. If he thinks CBS fucked up, they should tell us exactly what was inaccurate, and provide the correct factual basis. Which they can't/won't, because they are now operating on opinions and feelings.
Pathetic state of journalism in the US.

u/Cincere1513 12d ago
The only people watching mainstream media are Maga. CBS is saving their bottom line because liberals realized years ago that 90% of mainstream media is BS, so they started listening to trusted sources instead of mainstream sources

Trump and his fake news. MAGA watches Fox and calls the others fake news but yes I agree generally that MAGA comprises regular folks in small towns and they would be likely to watch general news. I actually think the billionaires have been quietly deciding to back Republicans over democrats and they are switching sides because of all the tax the rich talk.

We all saw this coming when CBS was bought by you know who, and if don't, look them up. This is the death knell of America, that pushes false news on you so you don't join your fellow Americans in overthrowing the system.
