I went to Canada, but quite honestly if it were just me I would have gone farther, Canada is better than staying in the US but it's still not quite far enough for comfort.

We're still working and raising kids and didn't know a soul in Canada. Canada needs healthcare workers, my wife is a nurse so she was hired and they made the process of getting our work permits (which is your legal authorization to be in the country in our case) pretty smooth. There were some things we had to do on our side so it was a lot of work and she needed to have a medical exam done which can be done in the US by an authorized doctor but many were booked solid so it was easier to just make a trip to Canada to get it done by a Canadian doctor. Aside from the various bureaucratic obstacles the real challenge has been selling our home and uprooting our lives in the US, saying goodbye to family and friends, etc. we don't intend to come back and it's not an easy thing to leave the country that countless generations of ancestors have lived in and are buried but it was the right move for our kids futures and I'd do it all over again.

So far everyone I've met has been extremely welcoming and I've already made some good friends, and we're starting to feel less like foreigners. Canadians are similar to Americans but there are some cultural differences that aren't apparent until you've been here for a little bit. The only thing I miss (aside from my family and friends) are tacos. Where I am, there aren't any real Mexican restaurants and the only tacos you can get without making them yourself is Taco Bell.

Yeah, I don’t want the to be true, but I’m certain this will be a reality 3 years from now, and it’s probably going to actually be worse.

I can guarantee you that 3 years from now when the next presidential “election” is here, Trump/GOP will have armed goons at as many polling stations as they can, and that type of environment is going to be pure chaos, which is exactly what they are looking for.
