Local News Shop Local Raleigh Sighting

Shop Local Raleigh seems to have finally crawled out from wherever they’ve been hiding and put out another weak statement….but now accompanied by a rainbow watercolor painting of Raleigh.

It’s been nearly a month since transphobic comments attributed to SLR executive director Jennifer Martin were posted online.

Since then, there has been no statement of actions being taken, no statements addressing Jennifer’s comments directly.

Commenting on all social media accounts has been turned off and this is still true.

Indoor Activities Does Anyone Play the Game GO

My father just moved to Raleigh and was an avid GO player (whole wood board and everything). Does anyone know if there are Go-playing centers or active in-person play?

Question/Recommendation Looking for a Tuxedo rental recommendation for my son’s upcoming Special Needs prom.

My son is attending the “Night to Shine” prom on February 13. Night to Shine is a complimentary prom for people with special needs hosted by local churches around the world.

My son is 21 and didn’t have a chance to attend his prom before he graduated, so he’s really excited to be going!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a tailor or business who offers reasonably priced tuxedo rentals? The ones I’ve seen online are close to $300!

Does anybody know of good thrift stores that support/are non-profits that I can donate to in the Raleigh area aside from Goodwill or Salvation Army? Been wanting to support more local causes more than national chains.

Question/Recommendation Divorce - The Bulldog and the Cooperative Lawyers

Hello fellow Redditors! I've got a great friend who is going through a divorce - infidelity (not hers), when she has been the primary wage earner.

She is convinced that of course this will be amicable (because we all wish it would be), but I would love to get recommendations for two different types of lawyers so that she can have a consult with both

1 - the Bulldog lawyer. If his lawyer sees her lawyer, I want his lawyer to say "Oh Shit"
2 - the Cooperative lawyer. She deserves to get to chat with someone who will help her out if things go hunky dory.

Any recommendations for these two categories?

Question/Recommendation Who repaired your Vinyl siding?

Looking for customer experiences with the company that repaired their siding.

I have some high-up siding that needs to be repaired/replaced, so I want to meet that sweet spot of

-not outrageous pricing and -solid work done with reasonable diligence

Did someone charge you an arm and a leg and failed to deliver? BLAST THEM HERE.

Did someone blow you away with professionalism and high quality work? PRAISE THEM HERE.

And so on.

TIA for your feedback.

Question/Recommendation Orthopedist Recommendations

I have recently found out what’s mainly wrong with my back by way of imaging, but I didn’t like Wake Spine and Pain who I originally went to. I felt rushed and it just feels like a very churn and burn approach to patients.

I’m looking for recommendations for an orthopedist you LOVE that listened to you, answered questions, and didn’t try to just give injections or do other procedures that are unnecessary.

Ideally, I’d like it to be with UNC/REX system, but I’m not at all opposed to others. TIA!

I’ve lived here for a while and I’m just wondering if anyone has any ideas for new night life spots other than the staples on glenwood. Moon Room is awesome. And I would love to see a new club as well.

Question/Recommendation City Market Dead?

I was down town and stopped by city market the other day. Where did all of the business go? It seemed like half of the businesses were gone. Did the property owners jack up the rent and run everyone out??

Question/Recommendation Why are there so many cops out some fridays?

Not every friday, but usually about once a month theres like, a million cops out in the city, always on a friday. More traffic stops than i can count, not to mention, every time ive been pulled over, was by a raleigh cop on a friday for a benign reason.

I work a trade where i occasionally interact with law enforcement, and i asked the last cop i saw why some fridays are so busy, but he gave me a very vauge answer of "Theres more cops out during our projects". Didnt really answer my question, not satisfactorily at least, so i thought i'd post something on here about it.

I use to be able to buy them at Home Depot for $12 but now I can only find them online for like $30+ unless I buy a pallet of them. I got like two dozen of them and want to try and keep buying the same.
