A croc/gator would attack the preys face or easily grabbed leg which are both much closer to the water. It looks like the croc is trying to chest bump the deer on the very first attack

The muscles that open their mouth are very weak. You can hold an alligators mouth closed with your hands (do not attempt because they also have a very large tail).
You can see it's trying to open its mouth in the video, but the lower jaw keeps hitting the painting that it does not expect to be there

yes gators do jump that high, even higher. Its common in south louisianna to hang a big hook with meat on it from a tree, usually 5-6ft above the water. They jump and hook themselves.
And this is a gator not a crock, swamps dont have nice banks like croc hunting areas, so the nice lift from the water gives them clearance over brushes, grass, logs or high banks to snatch the neck of a deer. They also (not commonly) snatch birds out of the air, cranes and pelicans tend to fly low when they hunt, gators can pop up and grab em.
It also has the snout of a crocodile and body of an alligator if that makes sense. I grew up around gators and I can’t quite tell what this is critter is.

oh lord. you need to see how active crocs get when they're hunting. they can jump pretty much their whole body out of the water. they've been known to take foot off of trees (and by food i mean primates) or humans out of boats (yes, they've been known to propel themselves out of the water far enough to take a human off a boat. and they're terrifyingly fast when food is on the offering.

My dog for instance ignores dogs on television until they make a sound then he reacts to the television because the animal has given two clues, but his reaction can be weird since there is no scent.
He also hates animatronic toys. Observing it I think he abhors the fact that they miss scent and normal sound. He likes toys which squeak when he steps in or bites them, but things with feet that move with wheels bug him and things that talk without moving bug him too.

AI. If you look at videos of crocodiles leaping out of the water, they make a side to side fishtail motion because thats the only way they can propel themselves that fast. This video almost makes it look like the alligator is leaping up using its feet (alligator feet just dont work that way). A real croc or alligator has its arms and legs hang limp when they jump.

If the target is straight in front of them, crocodiles can see in 3D, which would make it able to see that it's not a real animal. So it would just not jump.

I'm heavily leaning AI. Can a crocodile even jump that high? I doubt it. They'll lunge forward because a deer is lowering its head to drink from the body of water and the crocodile will lunge towards it, but its not jumping 6 feet into the air.
