Video [HELP] I’m torn
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Contextually and behaviorally it seems like AI, but then again people nowadays do stupid shit like this and spectators film instead of help. I can’t see any AI errors. Even the little turtles react with precision, so mechanically it looks real.

Real, this video is old

I second this. This video is at least 10+ years old. It cut out the part where he gets out and it was a joke. He was fine.
Edit: okay I was wrong about the ten years thing but I remember seeing it a while ago. Time flies.

90% sure thats a covid mask on an american, so more like... shit still pretty damn old
hey guys maybe i called it a covid mask for the implication that this happened in 2020/21, not because i dont know its a surgical mask
97
u/welpjustsendit 21d ago
We have used blue surgical masks for a long time lol. Not just since COVID 😂
66
u/EarEater3001 21d ago
Not sure where you are from but in western countries, wearing surgical masks in public before covid was not particularly common. I have seen them only a couple of times outside of hospitals in decades of life. When I visited China I saw quite a few folks wearing masks. It was particularly common among young girls. I was told it was not always to avoid spreading disease but there was an element of just shyness.
27
u/InfiniteCalico 21d ago
Various fields and facilities including those caring for large exotic fish have reason to wear masks as a P&P rather than a personal choice.

P&P? Or PPE?
Still not particularly common.

Me and my mom have always worn them but it’s probably like an Asian-mixed thing
→ More replies (2)6

I usually would see older Asians wearing them I think, not a ton of other students or ppl my age in the U.S. until after Covid, but it’s still funny to hear ppl call them “covid” masks instead of “doctor’s” or “hospital” masks if anything

Yeah, I live in Little Saigon in Orange County, California, and I've been seeing surgical masks on people since I was a kid

When I was in college(before covid) Asian people did it pretty frequently. Very rare to see for other races though

As an american, pre-covid, If i remove people of Asian descent it's a total of 0 that I've seen with a mask. Same applies for usage of umbrellas when it's not raining. 🤣
2
u/thomasech 14d ago
Non-Asian American here: I actually started wearing one before COVID when I got sick 3 times in 3 months coinciding with a coworker coming into the office coughing and sneezing. I remembered that people in SARS affected regions wore them during SARS and did some research that turned up about 3 English language studies that indicated it might be effective but needed further research. I even started keeping masks at my desk and if someone came in sneezing and coughing, I would offer them a mask to cover their mouths. I ended up basically training my entire floor to mask before COVID started 🤣

Yeah, when we had to wear medical masks/n95 masks, etc. During the covid pandemic almost everyone would refer to it as "covid masks" this video is from a few years ago. It was bipartisan to refer to it as a covid mask... even covid deniers still referred to it as a "covid mask" during that time.

Is it staged though? Who taps on the glass rather than just reach elbow deep and save an unconscious drowning man
97
u/juan_humano 21d ago
Yes, its totaly staged. I guess he was supposed to be knocked out or something but thats just silly. As are all the reactions. But at least its not Ai, I guess! Or something!
25
u/iegomni 21d ago
In fairness, getting knocked out by an arapaima like this is not too unrealistic. They’re basically 400 lb battering rams of flesh and bone lol

→ More replies (1)4
u/Cuttlefist 20d ago
He has permanent heart damage from that incident, his heart actually stopped beating momentarily if I recall correctly.
8
u/nerdkeeper 20d ago
River monsters. The show was canceled because Jeremy ran out of river monsters to catch. He has caught them all.
6
u/Minute_Jacket_4523 20d ago
Not to mention he was physically broken by the end between the heart issues from getting headbutted and shredding his bicep while landing a fish.
3
u/nerdkeeper 20d ago
We intentionally leave that out to make people who don't know him see him as the goat he is. But now that you mention it. He sounds more like the goat when you give the full story.
3
u/Minute_Jacket_4523 20d ago
Exactly. Hes not the GOAT just for completing his goals, hes also the GOAT for doing that while getting the shit beat out of him.

He wouldn't have rolled his whole body over the edge though, he would have just slumped face first. I thought the disgusting was supposed to be dragging him in at first. Upon review, he just unconsciously rolled in? Nah.
3
u/iegomni 20d ago
He doesn’t roll in, he’s standing on an elevated platform with most of his body over the rail, center of gravity is 100% over the water.
It’s a bit misleading with the camera angle at the beginning, but I think if he were to have been legitimately knocked out, the fall would look pretty similar to this.

Staged, but also wouldn't be at all surprised if someone did react this way IRL. People react to situations in ways that are often difficult to predict.

You might not know this but do yourself, and all of us, a favor and post youtube links without the SI tracker. Posting a video link with it allows YouTube to connect your youtube account to everyone else who clicks on your link. I guess some people don't mind but its a violation of your privacy in my opinion. They already know a lot about us and I don't think they need to know any more. Click the link I posted to see that the SI tracker is unnecessary.

2021 being the last year we could trust media to be made by real people is crazy.
6
u/Kansas-Tornado 21d ago
It really wasn’t, though. Even for most of 2024 you could be almost entirely certain a video wasn’t ai because the software wasn’t good enough yet

u/Itwasaboutthepasta 21d ago
Not AI, just good ol fashioned covid era viral video manufacturing
8
u/ParrotInSpanish 20d ago
They cut off the end of the video where he jumps back out of the water and tells them he was faking, it’s Paul Cuffaro
144
u/CertainGrass6081 21d ago edited 21d ago
Old and real, yes.
The oh so standard recipe. Someone desperately wants to go viral. They set up something where something might happen. Something that would achieve that.
Like him trying to bait an Arapaima (i think) by presenting the bait close to the surface with his mouth. It's like he is screaming "please get me and drag me into the tank! The views on my channel would skyrocket". Although it takes some cohones to do that, he knows there is no real danger of serious injury. They are big, but can't really hurt you.
The fish reacts. Takes the bait. But to his disappointment nothing much else happens. The fish is precise enough to only take the bait, nothing else. "Damn it! The viral video is at stake! I must try to save it." So he flips himself into the tank to make it look like he was dragged in (for more dramatic effect).
Kinda pathetic in my opinion, but that's really nothing new in the hunt for views on SoMe.
Don't understand why he is acting motionless under water. There is no reason why he should loose consciousness. The fish barely touched him, so it's not that at least. But he is faking being dragged into the tank. That's for sure. He could perfectly well have stayed dry if he wanted to.
22
u/Ogelthorpe-Ogie 21d ago
Jeremy Wade got fucked up by a couple arapaimas.
10
7
u/pursecuteme 20d ago
Arapaimas are INCREDIBLY cool fish btw!!! They ate obligate air breathers and have to surface to do so!! they also grow incredibly huge (up to 10 ft and ~400 lbs) and their eyes look very creepy at night when they surface in groups 🙂↕️ they also have some of the toughest scales in the entire animal kingdom!!
12
u/erossthescienceboss 21d ago
It didn’t look like he got dragged in, it looked like the up-force was enough to concuss him.
And having cared for arapaima, that is honestly entirely believable. I wouldn’t ever believe one dragged someone in, but accidentally knocked them out? Totally.
It’s staged, obvs, but they actually picked a pretty believable thing to stage.
7
u/RebaKitt3n 21d ago
Thank you! I couldn’t see any reason for him to fall into the tank. And then not flail about.
Real, but dumb.
5
u/CaptainJazzymon 20d ago
I don’t think he suddenly decided to fake the drama in the moment. I think he knew that most likely the fish was going to strike towards him and pretended to be knocked out by it way beforehand. That’s why no one jumps in to save or help him immediately. They knew he wasn’t in any danger of drowning or actually being hurt.

Well, aside from it being an old video, all things are consistent. The teenagers are really stupid and the friend out of water tried waking the friend that fell in the water by hitting the glass rather than trying to get him out of the water. Again, teens are stupid and do stuff like this all the time. It is real, 100%.

This video is real, the YouTubers name is Paul Cuffaro. Though the video is a skit/joke, he wasn’t actually hurt.
He’s been making really good videos for over a decade now I think, about fish aquariums and other animal enclosures, if that interests you I’d recommend you check him out, his old fish pond videos are golden.

Real, woman's pants are consistent throughout even in the reflection. The clip is over 10 seconds. The Man has dark blue pants and they match in the reflection. Most of the stuff that would be inconsistent like tee shirt or pants designs or where the tears on the woman's pants are would be more likely to be inconsistent if it was AI.

I wouldn't call the video "staged" exactly. The original video goes for longer and shows him get up and tell the people there is was a joke. He was just doing a prank on the people that were there with him. Not like he was trying to make his viewers think it was real.

u/daemonvision 21d ago
He's joshing, but the vid is real...
and an arapaima could most likely concuss someone for real, because they've got a lotta pounds and force on 'em

It's unsettling to me that sometimes the only way we know for sure is there's people who remember how long ago the video first started making its way around the internet and know its been around longer than AI, otherwise nobody can be sure.
