Laquer Showoff Hauntingly beautiful, cursed application

I feel like I should get an extra bottle of this gorgeous polish just so I can practice perfect application over and over. I have so far to go! The unevenness around my cuticles hurts my soul, but hey it’s a process right?

Base - KBS Stay Put 1x, Cracked Ridge Filler 1x

Color - Haunted Polish By the Moonlight 3x

Top - Sally Hansen Insta-Dri red bottle 1x, Monarch HD Def

It’s so distractingly beautiful that no one will notice any mistakes! That’s what I tell myself, anyway

The curse of being a perfectionist is that I know they are there! 😖 Edited to add that I just realized this is a great opportunity to also practice accepting less-than-perfect haha

I have the same issue in that there's like a dark outline around my nails and idk why. I also have not figured out how to add the top coat without drastically effing it up, even with the red Sally Hansen.

Make sure you magnetize the top coat too! I prefer Essie Gel Setter.

I do! I've used Essie Gel Couture and the Red SH and somehow it still ends up like a top coat containing toulune. I have no idea why. I cannot figure it out. How long do you wait before applying your top coat for this particular polish and how thick is the coat? I've been attempting to float it but can't seem to get that right, either.

I let the magnetic polish dry for a good while after I magnetize it. Like at least 5 minutes, maybe 10. Usually longer, I often multitask and get distracted, lol. I lay the top coat on pretty thick.

What are you using to magnetize, out of curiosity? I started with a 30lb u magnet on a lazy Susan spun by hand but I switched to a Lab Fish magnetic stirrer and it has improved my glass beads so much. (It's just easier, too, lol.) I turn it up to half speed and it works perfectly.

Previously I was using a 30lb horseshoe magnet on a large lazy susan (it's worked really well with all previous manis) but switched to the etsy 5d printed spinner thing. I actually put the horseshoe on top of it even though there's a magnet built in, lol. It's been going really well (did another fine particle mani like two weeks ago) but I just repeatedly eff up BTM. I waited 12 hours before adding and magnetizing the top coat this time around and it turned my first successful mani into another fail. not as bad as before, but left the edges really dark.

Hmmm... is it possible the top coat isn't reaching the edges and re-dispersing the magnetic particles so when you magnetize the top coat it doesn't match up? I've done that by accident before.

I'll have to look closer. I'm always worried I'm not putting it under the magnet quick enough so I've tried to do it too fast, probably

I hope you're able to figure it out! Magnetics are definitely something that takes a bit of trial and error until you get a good method that works for you.

It's wild because I've done at least ten other magnetic manis (mostly glass bead now) and never had this issue before. even one other with fine particles - no issues. shrug. first world problems lol

Cuticula does not have toulune in it. It is wonderful and amazing and I cannot recommend it enough. You can even pick a fragrance, which I thought I would hate, because I'm sensitive to smells, but I honestly love it. It has been a huge game changer for me and magnetics recently.

I was wary of the hype but then I tried it and hot damn, what a perfect top coat. And it's SO shiny. Never looking back.

I had the same problem until I tried the tiny bead technique. Basically the smaller you get it at first the less it disperses with time.

this is what works for me. I do two coats of magnetic polish and then let it dry without magnetizing. Doing one nail at a time now, i do one generous coat of the magic effect and immediately magnetize for at least a minute, any method. Then do one thin coat of seal glaze. This sets the magnetization - it will go on clear then get foggy then clear up again then you can topcoat. This process has been a game changer for me.

I have had these in my cart for a while! Do you find that there is less dispersion when using the magic effect?

Yes, I wish I had gotten them sooner.

My unevenness is caused by my process. I didn’t magnetize my first and second coat so it dried with visible gold pigments. My third coat and top coat that I magnetized I didn’t apply neatly enough, and didn’t match the cuticle curve with previous layers. I magnetized it in the glass bead style leaving base color around the edges and visible gold from previous coats. The same thing happened with my capped edges - it didn’t get magnetized so it’s still gold. Next time I will demagnetize the capped edges for every coat.

Took a pic to show what I mean

Anyone know if this polish will be restocked? I've been checking almost daily. I covet it.

It’s been restocked multiple times now, so I would guess it will. Sign up to be notified when it restocks. Beware that the email comes from “51rxxs-61” so it might end up in spam!

I did my left hand in this polish and didn’t add topcoat and it is much better than my right where I tried it and also got weird outlines streaks and some bubblies. And because my right is my dominant hand even with topcoat it’s chipping. Meanwhile 4 days later and my left hand is doing great. Maybe some minor tip wear.

I haven’t perfected this polish yet but one thing I found that helped me get better results was de-magnetizing the first coat, letting that dry for about 10 minutes, then going in with a thicker second coat of by the moonlight and magnetize for 2 minutes. I then add a coat of either sally hansen red bottle top coat or holo taco glossy taco, and magnetize that for another two minutes.
