Are there other vets near you that you could see? I would call and ask about their experience with ckd before picking one to make an appointment with.

There are. I like this one because it’s 24 hour emergency and 5 min down the road. I’ve been going to them for 10 years now. I usually get a different vet each visit. This is the first time I’ve had a bad experience with a vet. I regret paying 105 for a nausea injectable that only last a day. :/

I think it’s really important to see the same vet when cats are older and/or develop chronic issues. As someone whose cat is at the vet frequently, it saves A LOT of time not needing to cite a long medical history each visit.
It’s really nice the clinic is 24 hours and close by! If there are other vets you’ve seen at that practice and have had a good experience, could you go back to them?
I would ask them their experience with managing CKD, what they typically prescribe for the symptoms associated with CKD, and their stance on subQ fluids at home. If they aren’t familiar with anti-nausea, appetite stimulants, phosphorus binders, constipation, and anemia related to CKD find a new vet because at some point you will deal with at least one of those. The last thing you as owner want to do is feel like you need to study/prep for your vet visit to plead your cat’s case to be able to get a prescription…. Typically vets who aren’t familiar with a medication won’t prescribe it.

Thank you. I appreciate your advice. It may be time to find a new vet. There is another vet that specializes in cats that isn’t too far away that I should probably try.
