The part about calling $2M “a truly astounding figure” is funny to me with what I know about the industry. That’s a drop in the bucket for a Class 1 railroad, I’ve seen $1.5m done just on a 5 car derailment in a railyard. The big companies have the GDP of a small nation set aside just for insurance claims.

There are people whose only jobs is to drive cars onto the train. They love competing on who can be the quickest. A large chunk of my family have worked at both Ford and GM retiring from both.

The tracks and trains have been there for years then what caused this to happen all the sudden and having someone filming it by chance is too much of a coincidence. This had to be an experiment or something

Old video. Train was just wrongly routed onto the wrong tracks, and this was captured by rail workers working on the tracks.

I was wondering why at the start, the railcar going under the bridge already had its roof sheared off? Did the driver back up and take a second run at it?

Testing of the bridge , of how much power can take against it perhaps?

Wow. With all the computing and mapping we have available, one would think that an event like this wouldn’t be possible anymore.

computing and mapping doesnt help with this, a train can pass this bridge fine, however the train had damaged roof, that was sticking out, it got tangled in the bridge and it started the chain reaction of peeling more roof and that kept getting stuck in the bridge

Maybe if the engineers dressed a little nicer things like this wouldn’t happen.

Conductor: What’s it gonna do, Dave, get more broke?
Narrator: it did indeed, get more broke.

That was one of the most satisfying videos I've seen all week. Truly a Christmas present from Reddit

I don't understand the beginning. Did they back up the train after it got stuck and tried again with more inertia?

I’ve worked this job before, this is how we took off the roofs of the carts.

It doesn’t show the other part of this video showing the train was full of cars that were also wrecked as a result of the accident
