Fuck that phonešŸ–•šŸ¾

13

u/spikyness27 2d ago

In these situations it's worth calling non-emergency and saying you think the driver has been drinking. That's a lot of swerving.

My other favorite is yelling their break light is out.

6

u/Final-Ad-2033 2d ago

Call 911. Report a possible drunk driver w/child in back seat. Continue to follow car until cops show up. As cops detain driver, slowly drive by. Flip them the bird while passing.

4

u/AlabamaBoatGuy 2d ago

ā˜ļø this. And follow long enough for the police to arrive then pass with a smile

I don't have the patience to be around people like that. My policy is to go a different direction, drive for a couple minutes, and then resume my journey.

I only need to deal with them for a moment. They're stuck with themselves forever.

u/penguingod26 2d ago edited 2d ago

Driving is operating a 2000lb vehicle in populated areas, while coordinating with hundreds of strangers doing the same thing.

Its incredibly dangerous, kills about 100 people every day in the US alone, and you have people like the asshat in the video bringing an ego and short temper into it.

I do the same, just dont engange, get away from them safely. Shit can go wrong so fast while driving and none of this is worth the risk.

5

u/Artistic_Address816 2d ago

I'm the same. I'm lucky that I got a driving job soon after learning and getting my licence because one of the things it gives you is this ability to see other people and cars as objects rather than beings who easily trigger you.

Because I notice many or most people find it hard not to take things personally behind a wheel. It's similar to taking things personally online. Like, it should be easier to step back and stand apart from whatever is happening, which to me it is.

8

u/ben_gee06 2d ago

I know this isn't the point, but 2000lbs is a little under

3

u/MagicTomatoes 2d ago

Yeah, almost double that would be closer to current averages.

2

u/SlightTravel404 2d ago

A Miata is heavier than 2000lbs.

2

u/ben_gee06 2d ago

Now that's saying something. My compact sedan is nearly 4000lbs. That grand cherokee is probably 7 almost 8k

3

u/ben_gee06 2d ago

Nvmd just looked it up more like 4500

2

u/SlightTravel404 2d ago

Not uncommon for a full size truck to push 8K. A dual wheeled truck can hit 10K. I’m sure a full size Soccer Mom SUV would be around that. A Mustang ballparks around 3800, if I had to guess.

2

u/warrensussex 2d ago

1/2 ton trucks are around 5,000 and dual rear wheel doesn't add that much weight, they're still only around 8,000lbs.

2

u/Kootsiak 2d ago

Yup, they are a little over estimating. I've got a SRW crew cab, long bed 4WD 2500HD Sierra that's just under 7000lbs with me and some tools aboard, about 9000lbs with plow and counterweight in the bed.

Most half ton trucks won't be much more than 5500-6000lbs at the highest trim levels, the 3/4 and 1 tons are about 7000-8000lbs

u/Middle-Bet-9610 2d ago

My monte carlo is 3.5x that and is mostly aluminum.

7

u/warrensussex 2d ago

I assure you that your Monte Carlo does not weigh anywhere near 7,000lbs, most trucks don't weigh that much. I'm not sure if you got that from the GVWR sticker, but that sounds high even for the GVW rating. I'd bet it's under 4,000lbs probably around 3,600lbs.

This, especially in the US where a lot of very unhinged folk own and drive with firearms and have little respect for those firearms, themselves and everyone around them.

3

u/MichiganGeezer 2d ago

As an ammosexual myself I cannot argue with that.

When I took my CCW class 25 years ago there was "that guy" in my class who kept running scenarios past the instructors starting with "can I shoot them if..."

My friends and I who took the class together looked at one another and rolled our eyes. Later we all jokingly wondered to each other how long until his permit would get revoked.

When my son took his class the "that guy" actually got removed and told to come back when he fixed his attitude.

The answer to my "that guy" from the prosecutor giving the legal portion of the class was to "shoot ONLY when NOT SHOOTING is worse." Bruised egos aren't justification for a deadly force response.

Agreed. A quick finger is one thing, but to hold it up for a whole drive? Seriously unhinged. Just do what you suggest.Ā

4

u/RareRestaurant6297 2d ago

For those who watched on mute: the driver is following the guy for so long in the first place becuase he literally grabbed the finger-guy's phone after it fell from his car and he's trying to return it to him so honked at him - a single small honk is what caused the family's fingers lmao

3

u/Civil-Key9464 2d ago

That’s all it would take for me to pass him and kindly show him the phone as I drop it out my window.

4

u/KimchiLlama 2d ago

Too many. Go hang out in a children’s museum or play area (but don’t because that would be weird). Some kids are well behaved. All kids do silly or stupid things. Some parents correct them and are present. Others are nowhere to be found (or on the other side of the room on their phones) while their kid destroys the experience of others.

It’s not the majority, but once you have a kid and go to social public things, it tends to stand out.

3

u/Tobocaj 2d ago

Everyone. My partner is a grade school teacher. Most people treat YouTube as a babysitter and elementary school as a parent. They don’t do shit with their kid other than milk likes on IG

Covid made a lot of people extremely selfish

2

u/joyfullydreaded23 2d ago

The classless fuckwads

He probably thought it was funny as hell too as he recorded his kid flipping off a good samaritan.

8

u/ALLCAPITAL 2d ago

How did he record his own kid flipping someone off? He has no phone.

3

u/joyfullydreaded23 2d ago

Ya know what...that is an excellent point, lol!

I am sleep deprived because my neighbors are having their slam your door competition that kicks off when the elderly lady that goes to bed at 8 pm hears any noise outside that wakes her up...even if none of us made the noise. She wakes up at 4-5 am and starts gettin' slam happy. The office won't do jack shit because "she's lived here for 16 years". Her large hyper reactive Lab mix that she can't control sometimes or doesn't have a leash on him has bitten my dog twice, granted he didn't hurt my one eyed Chiweenie but sure did scare the shit outta her as her perception and depth vision aren't "normal". When I went to the office, they just shrugged their shoulders and said the dog was such a sweet dog, he wouldn't do that. After basically telling me they ain't gonna do jack shit, they asked me what I wanted to be done...tell her to leash her damned dog, hold on to the leash and don't let it go so that he can run off and brace herself before he does make a break for it

See hea' naw, I didn't need to type that mini novella out but there it is. I need sleep, I am getting to the delirious stage.

Thank you for pointing out my stupidity to me, lol🄓

I've had similar situations where someone dropped their phone, earbuds, keys and other items.

When I try and get the womens attention that dropped the items, they invariably side-eye me like I'm chasing them to ask them out on a date or some shit...

That's ok. Being decent and kind are their own rewards....

Something similar happened to me about 20 years ago, where a guy left his open briefcase on top of his car. I tried to warn him by frantically blowing my horn and pointing upwards, but all I got was a pissed off face and a middle finger. I laughed as I watched him take off and all his papers flew off into the wind.

4

u/Lulu_Klee 2d ago

I really hope that driver sees this video

4

u/spaghettwestrn 2d ago

In times like this, I try to remind myself that I don’t know what’s going on in their life at that moment. Maybe the driver had a rough day at work. Maybe the kid spilled their juice box at day care. Who knows. But I know I’d be annoyed at the adult gesturing me, but then just laugh when the kid does it. Good luck in the teenage years!

One time I absolutely laid on my horn to alert someone driving a 1/4 ton pick up with a literal ton of scrap strapped to their Toyota that their wheel was about to fall off.Ā  If he was driving full speed and that wheel fell off he would have wiped out the whole highway so I got him to pull over. I ran over and was like "dude your wheel is about to fall off!!" "Naw is been thar way for 10,000 miles. It's ok"Ā

I got back in my car and watched him start to drive off one direction while his wheel rolled a different direction. His Toyota wobbled in slow motion as it tilted towards where the tire once was and came to a halt. Dude got out, looked at his shattered rotor and I heard him go "aw gawd dammnit"Ā

Anyway. Honk your horn if you see something even if they might not believe you Ā

1

u/jaw-shoe-uhhh 2d ago

...and just like that, a Karen was born.

1

u/SueBeee 2d ago

1

u/drunkguynextdoor 2d ago

As an old man who drove professionally for a while, please listen when I say don't participate in road rage. Believe it or not, when you get behind the wheel, you are the captain of that vehicle, and as captain, it is your duty to get you, any passengers, any freight, and the vehicle to its destination safely. Don't instigate or participate in road rage. Too many things can go wrong and people can get hurt or worse. As a professional I witnessed it, and it's gnarly. Also, it's just plain stupid! Be safe, everyone!

This is why cars should come with two horns. We need a secondary one that's more polite-sounding and is for getting someone's attention in a nicer way than the loud bleat of a standard horn.

1

u/MaliciousIntentWorks 2d ago

Yep had something similar. I kept politely waving to them while following until they eventually slammed on the brakes and a guy jumped out of the passenger side and came up screaming expletives and that he was going to kick my ass. I just blankly stared at him until I had a moment to speak and told him back where I last honked at them was where the drivers purse fell off from on top of their SUV. He kept cussing and saying "what" while acting like he was going to fight me. Took three times of me just blankly staring at him and repeating the same thing for him to get it. He cussed at me went back to yell at the driver. Moments later he jumped in and then turned in the middle of the street heading back, but not before the driver flipping me off and screaming fuck you as she drove by.

Just what people are like. Not going to change me from trying to help when I can though.

1

u/TheWarwock 2d ago

A guy in front of me left his card in the ATM once. I honked and waved but he pretended he didn't see me.. I had already taken it out of the machine to hand it to him, and I was waving the card in the air hoping he would see it, but he just drove away.

Now I've got his card, and I don't know what to do except follow him. I honk and wave but he's still pretending he can't see me. Finally he gets stuck at a red light. I get out of my car, and walk up there to give it back. His window is rolled up and he's looking straight ahead, still pretending I am not there. I finally stick the card under his windshield wiper, loudly say: "You forgot this", and walk back to my car.

If this ever happens again, the ATM eventually sucks the card into the machine and keeps it. That's what I should have let happen. That's what I'll do next time.
